Avatar m tn I was born with eczema and during my childhood it manifested in my arms. Suddenly, my eczema cleared up and I was completely fine, I thought I was cured. My freshman year in high school, the skin around my mouth began to chap. I didn't really pay much attention so I used original chapstick. As time passed it got more and more intense. I'm now a senior in high school and at this moment I'm experiencing a flare-up.

1145811 tn?1293482357 The biggest help is dietary. I'm not sure why doctors don't bother telling us that we need to stop eating gluten and dairy, but when I looked up information about foods to avoid if one has eczema the consensus was that we have to avoid gluten and dairy. I had to discover this the hard way myself. I've learned that I have to self-advocate and find the information I need for myself. I don't know what I would do without a computer.
1337810 tn?1333807530 I'm not an expert but my 2yr old son has eczema. he had it as an infant so I changed our clothes detergent to a hypo-allergenic or sensitive one as well as his nappy wipes. when he was 1 I gradually introduced normal soaps & detergents. he was fine for a few mths but then it came back worse. I now only use hypo-allergenic detergent & use skin cream during summer as it flares up during the hotter period.

Avatar m tn s hard to see how taking a drying hot shower can help with a drying condition like eczema, so do you really have eczema? You do describe dry skin, but although most of use moisturizers they can just become addictive in the sense that without them the skin keeps drying out and so we apply more moisturizer. We all do it, because it's easy to do. But the drying can be coming from a lack of essential fatty acids in your diet, just as one example.
