Common Questions and Answers about Eczema in eyelids

eczema

Avatar n tn Itchy, flaky, red (and puffy) skin in patches around my eyelids, on/in my ears and on my nipples and even at the corner of my mouth that, at the most severe, was very painful and would crack and bleed (did not notice anything around the groin). I became incredibly frustrated, with my eyes looking so bad and hurting so much it was a mission just to leave the house. I went to a doctor who prescribed a Betnesol cream. Within a day the condition was markedly better.
Avatar n tn Hi, For 2 years I have had dry skin on my eyelids. The eyes get dry, sting a little an then get flaky skin or sometimes the skin will crack. Along with this my ears ooze a yellow substance from inside the ridge at the top of my ears, it then gets very dry around the ear. After the first year I started to get lesions/dry skin on my elbows and belly button.
Avatar f tn See if stopping the tanning helps. Also, consider seeing an ophthalmologist. Dr. O.

For adults you have to look at the detergents you are using, along with moisturizer. The most important thing is not scratching and to keep applying moisturizer. It can be hard to find one that agrees with your skin. Just after shower apply a liberal coat of a natural moisturizer like coconut oil.
Avatar f tn I do not infer anything more than a mild 'Asteatotic eczema' (relating to old age) .Application of coconut oil should be fine(not in to the eye but outer skin). Do consult your doc.
Avatar m tn My 1.5 year old has mild eczema, with some small patches around the eyes and eyelids. My doctor prescribed Locoid ointment (Hydrocortisone Butyrate 0.1%). I have since learned that there are serious side effects associated with topical steroid use around the eyes and eyelids, including cataracts and glaucoma. Without understanding the risks, I applied the Locoid to my child's eye area and eyelids daily for one week. I stopped immediately upon learning of the danger.
Avatar m tn I have been suffering from eczema on my eyelids for years and, recently, I have discovered that the application of a small amount of Gold Bond Body Lotion (http://****.com/largeimage/GoldBondMedicatedExtraStrengthBodyLotion14OunceBottleKqL.jpg) heals the problem if I use it daily. I do not get it in my eyes, but it does cause the tingling sensation associated with Menthol on my eyelids (sometimes my eyes water, but it does not get into my eye). The lotion contains 0.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your reply. I have an appointment with my Opthamologist on Thursday. I have another question. Once the problem is diagnosed and treated, will my upper eyelids return to normal? I am in my mid-50's and I sure hate to think I will be left with saggy, wrinkly eyelids.
Avatar f tn Eczema on both lids of both eyes would be unusual. The most common cause would be hypersensitivity reaction of eyelids due to exotoxin production of staphlococcus aureous colonizing your eyelids due to blepharitis. Again that is just the most common cause.
Avatar f tn Over the past few weeks I have developed itchy, red, burning, scaly, puffy eyelids. I thought that maybe it was my make-up (which I don't often use) so I haven't put any on in several days. However, the problem seems to be getting worse. Worst of all is my upper eyelids have become wrinkly and droopy (which I imagine is due to the puffiness?). I tried putting a thin coat of benedryl cream on them and it helped a tiny bit with the itching.
Avatar f tn I have eczema all over my body and withing the past year i have swollen eyelids, with extra wrinkles. my eyes are also itchy. What can i do so that my eyes aren't disgusting and itchy?
Avatar f tn I now have a patch of eczema under one eye. I tried special products, control creams, cortisone (in small amounts-I have to be careful since it is around my eye), vaseline...the list goes on. If anyone has any ideas, I'd welcome them!
Avatar m tn Thank you for your respond, can u really only get Eczema in only one place? I thought that ends up getting in many areas when u have it. also what are some other things u think it may be?
Avatar n tn Your best bet, the best dermatologist in your area or/and the best Eye MD specilizing in cornea/external disease.

Avatar n tn ve also been treated by my dermatologist for infected eczema along my entire body (thanks to my extended stay in the caribbeans) with Clobetasol Propionate and antibiotics. The dermatologist actually recommended that I apply the topical steroid SPARINGLY to the inflamed regions of my face, since normal hydrocortisone was not working to get rid of residual inflammation around my eye. The last time I have put that on was back in March 2011.
Avatar f tn I have had this red area on my eyelids for 2yrs + now that flares up when I do not use the hydrocortisone cream prescribed for it. I was told it was eczema but it looks more like psoriasis to me, which I currently have on my scalp. I do have diabetes and hypothyroidism, both autoimmune. Avatar m tn The eyelids, scrotal area and in infants the absorbtion of steroid on external application is very high and thus the atrophy component here. Thankfully hydrocortisone is comparitively weak and thus there is some recovery but then after sometime. The other alternative diagnosis is dry skin associated with eczema. Hope it would settle soon.Best wishes.
Avatar f tn I have one very small section near the front of my head where I have just noticed a small area of hair loss. The area is only a couple of centimeters. The scalp in that section is slightly pink compared to the rest of my scalp. It has been itchy for the past few weeks. Thankyou for your help - it is greatly appreciated. Avatar m tn I am a 29 y/o male, have a history of red, itchy, flaky eyelids. Recently the redness and flakiness have progressed to cover my cheeks, eyebrows, middle of forehead. The itchiness is now subsided and I am left with very noticeable hypopigmentation in these affected areas. There is a sharp line on both cheeks demarcating the normal area from the affected area. I wash with cetaphil face wash and afterwards the areas are extremely dry and flaky.
Avatar m tn Sometimes people have allergies to other things that come in contact with other parts of the body but show up on the sensitive skin areas, like the eyelids. For example, my wife is allergic to the gloves they use at our hospital. The reaction, however showed up on her eyelids instead of her hands. As soon as she stopped using thos particular gloves, the irritation went away. Process of elimination works best when it comes to skin allergies. It could aslo by Psoriasis or Eczema.
Avatar n tn For the past couple months I've noticed that my eyelids have been unusually dry and itchy - Now they are constantly peeling (both the upper and lower lid) and still very itchy and super red (it looks like I've been slugged in the eyes). I read online that I should do a warm compress and then scrub the skin with baby wash and then use aveeno, but that hasn't been working at all - I'm so embarrassed by it, I don't like going out..
Avatar f tn May be of note that I had mild eczema as a child, only around my elbow creases. The eczema flares disappeared in my teens but last year I ended up developing some eczema just above my nose bridge, between my eyebrows, and I was given some cream to apply. It didn’t help and only made the skin worse (wrinkled) so I stopped using it. It has NEVER affected my eyelids like it has this time. Lately, I have itchy dry areas on the back of my hand too.
