Common Questions and Answers about Eczema description

Avatar m tn Welcome to the STD forum. Eczema is a dermatologist's bread and butter. Misdiagnosing eczema would be like me not recognizing gonorrhea. Since a dermatologist believes your rash was due to eczema, that is also my belief. Oral sex is safe sex. There are STD risks, but they are low; and if you caught an STD by oral sex, the only possible manifestations would be penile sores, blisters, or discharge -- or maybe painful urination. Nothing else.
Avatar n tn Hello, The description of rashes sounds like dyshidrotic eczema. Eczema is a form of chronic dermatitis (rash).Allergic reaction is one of the important causes of eczema. Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps.
Avatar n tn What you wrote back was a general description of eczema which I am well versed in. My question is how long do people usually find relief after taking low dose oral steroids? Days, Weeks, Months? Thank you for your time.

Avatar m tn Is this skin condition eczema or psoriasis and should I keep using medication? Is there a natural therapy for this condition like lemon juice or coconut oil or anything similar? Tea Tree has failed to work. Here is a picture of the condition on my chin after I shaved. It doesn't look this bad again if I keep my chin hairs short. This was immediately after a hair trim/shave. http://toddwaldorf.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/IMG_2204.
Avatar m tn Check out "lichen schlerosos" online in a medical dictionary that shows pictures, and see if you can find some pictures on dark skin, and read the description. Maybe that's what's going on. The other thing that it might be is vitiligo, but I've never heard that it hits the pubic area more (or sooner) than other places on the body.
Avatar n tn m not an expert but I do have eczema. It sounds like eczema to me. Can you describe the characteristics of your rash? Have you tried putting anything on it? Try Cetephil lotion, it should help keep moisturizing your skin. If not, an OTC cortisol cream might help the inflammation as well. Hope it helps.
Avatar m tn We can get all the same skin things the rest of our body has on our penis. This sounds like in the psoriasis or eczema category from your description. A doctor would tell you what to use on it as some otc products could be irritating. Think you can get to a doctor? I do want to say though that friction can cause this as well if you've had any type of sex or masturbation recently that was a little more than the penis was ready for. If that's the case, lubricant is your answer.

Avatar f tn I think you have dyshidrotic eczema (or a type of eczema). It fits the description and I have it too. It seems to get worse in the winter. It can be caused by a variety of things such as allergies, dry skin, washing your hands too much and a variety of other things. Best to keep your hands as dry as possible don't wash in hot water. I actually use gloves a lot to keep down the hand washing and it has helped some.At this point you will need a topical steroid such as clobetisol.
Avatar n tn It can be due to perioral dermatitis, liplicker’s dermatitis, contact dermatitis, eczema rash or other skin diseases. Please elaborate the symptoms and the description of the rash. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn ll just say (again) that your symptoms and description of the rashes are not typical for herpes (but you already know that). However, there is a condition called eczema herpeticum, in which standard allergic eczema is complicated by a secondary infection with HSV1. Look at online photos of it. You may not need to see a dermatologist within 48 hours of onset to get an accurate diagnosis.

Avatar m tn A spot about as big as a nickle above my right eyebrow. It's a bit itchy. Very dry, seems raised, with a little bit of dead skin on the surface here and there. It has no yellowish color, mostly just red with the dead skin being white flakes.
Avatar n tn When topical corticosteroids do not provide relief, sometimes more the doctor may consider prescribing some more potent corticosteroids for some period, in adults with may be needed for adults with eczema on the scalp, limbs, and trunk or those with chronic/ lichenified eczema. Newer two topical eczema drugs like pimecrolimus (Elidel Cream) and tacrolimus (Protopic Ointment) are reserved only for cases where corticosteroids have not been effective.
Avatar m tn Hello, Clobetasol is a high potency steroid and should be used only after a dermatologist’s prescription only. For dyshidrotic eczema, Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Avatar m tn In new eczema, the affected skin appears red and elevated with small blisters which break and the affected skin will weep and ooze. In older eczema, chronic eczema, the blisters are less prominent and the skin is thickened, elevated, and scaling. However eczema does not respond to oral antifungals and responds best to topical and oral steroids.

Avatar f tn If it is dry and flaky and itchy then nummular eczema is an important possibility. The damp skin is an ideal site for fungi to multiply. So you should wear cotton socks and change them twice a day and do not share other people’s towels. Application of local antifungal cream(terbinafine, clotrimazole, econazole, ketoconazole, miconazole) and oral antifungal drugs are the mainstay of treatment.
