Common Questions and Answers about Eating raw kale

eating

Avatar m tn got you, so, any rule of thumb on what should be eating raw and what not? Im eating raw kale, brocolli and carros, beans and quinoa that makes pretty much my diet every day with fruits....what do you think I should add? Thanks for your very knoledgeble insight.
Avatar f tn First, you IBS is probably not tied to these foods. Also, not to be a nit-picker, but corn is a grain, not a vegetable, and zucchini is a fruit, also not a vegetable. The importance of this is in both your IBS and the nutrients you might not be getting by not eating true vegetables. Corn can be a troublesome food for many, as it's a common allergen and also contains a lot of sugar. Carrots are great cooked and raw -- cooked they have more carotenoids, raw more fiber.
Avatar f tn Not to be picky, but avocadoes are fruits, not vegetables. Broccoli isn't very digestible in raw form -- it's healthier cooked unless you're breaking down the tough fibers by juicing or culturing. This is generally true with vegetables in the cabbage family in general, such as kale and collards. I know, raw broccoli used to be a fad and now raw kale is, but fads aren't facts. Raw kale is very hard to digest.
Avatar n tn Let me give an example, however, while I'm at it -- take beans. A lot of people get smelly output when they eat them, but it's not because they're toxic; quite the contrary, they're really good for you. It's because they have complex fibers in them that are hard to digest.
3923358 tn?1358552214 And remember, diet is pretty individual -- what works for one won't necessarily work for another. One problem with raw food diets is that people think anything is digestible raw, which isn't true. You see all this raw kale and broccoli in salad bars now, but the stomach can't break down the complex fibers in these plants very well raw. You can do it if you juice them or if you cook them, but eating raw is not as easy as advertised. So take care here to do what suits you.
Avatar f tn Hey everyone, How much should I worry about cruciferous vegetables if I am being treated for hypo with Hashimoto's? I adore kale and had been eating smoothies with a leaf or two of raw kale lately... Does cooking help? Should I avoid it entirely or just limit consumption each week? Thanks!
2065676 tn?1331422440 As far as HCV is concerned, unless you have cirrhosis or issues with iron storage you can eat anything you care to; within reason of course.
Avatar f tn Raw green beans are good, and so are raw sugar snap peas. Maybe a handful of raisins. Maybe you would like kale chips. Learn to cook using veggies, olive oil, herbs, fish. These things are real food, not junk.

Avatar m tn I saw someone suggested to steam it instead of eating raw. Please kindly comment. Currently the list of veggies I used for juicing are: Garlic Onion broccoli Beetroot cucumber lemons Apples pears grapes celery carrots Ginger Green leafs (all kinds, like cabbage, kale, Lettuce, etc) Another related question. I know meat is not healthy for us. Fish seems OK, but in USA here most fishes are farm raised (including salmon), which means lots of GMO added - probably not good as well.
Avatar f tn That's the spirit. No sense in giving up everything we enjoy.., all things in moderation. I like my sweets and since I'm not diabetic, nor overweight, I refuse to say no to all my sweets. That's not to say that I run around eating a bag of candy or a bowl or ice cream or a piece of cake every day. But, I don't want to live to 100 and go the rest of my time eating wheat grass and kale and an apple, or I'd be miserable and bored with eating. So, I like your spirit.
Avatar n tn I'm 5 weeks pregnant I want to know all the important things I need to be eating. Such as specific veggies and fruits.
Avatar f tn The way you prepare food also matters -- for example, spinach is best eaten raw, whereas broccoli, kale, collards and the like are best cooked. So it's more complicated. The good thing is, you do a lot better with vegetables than any other category of food, but if you ate too many vegetables you'd be left without room for fats and protein, which are also essential.
Avatar m tn eat the kale, then drink the juice from the pot the kale was steamed or boiled in.. there are healthful benfits to eating it raw as well.. but i will agree with you .. its good both ways.. I enjoyed it raw alot of the time.. I like the taste. and found that it helped me with my digestion, and kept my colon in good clean health. Avatar f tn My green juice takes about 15 minutes to make, and is made up of collard greens, kale, bok choy, cilantro, tomato, pineapple, papaya, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and sometimes an apple or a pear. The "seed shot" is raw pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds. When people ask me if I take a multi-vitamin, I usually say that I think my green juice, seed shot, and a few nuts, are my multi-vitamin. Am I right?

649848 tn?1534633700 I weighed this morning, and have gained a pound. We had a big, salty dinner last night -- I'll check again tomorrow to see if the pound has stuck around or if some of it was the dinner; if its still there I'm going to have to make a few adjustments in how I eat. We had cookies around this week.
Avatar f tn Raw kale smoothies. Mix the make with frozen fruit yogurt and some milk.
Avatar f tn Cooked spinach is actually a good source of non-heme iron and raw spinach contains oxalates (derived from oxalic acid) which IMPAIRS the absorption of iron. "Oxalates impair the absorption of nonheme iron. Oxalates are compounds derived from oxalic acid and found in foods such as spinach, kale, beets, nuts, chocolate, tea, wheat bran, rhubarb, strawberries and herbs such as oregano, basil, and parsley. The presence of oxalates in spinach explains why the iron in spinach is not absorbed.
Avatar f tn Lots of vegies, fruit, whole grains, meat & dairy. brocolli, kale, spinach, tomatoes & avocado are all really good veggies. Also eggs are amazing (just make sure their cooked- hard boil, scrambled), and hard cheese made with pasturised milk. Avoid raw and undercooked meat, eggs and seafood & soft cheese made with unpasteurized milk. Try to eat leftovers the next day and heat them up well.
