Avatar n tn ve been led to believe, almost anyone can lower or raise your cholesterol level to the optimal 222 by simply eating 2 eggs and 1/4 lb of butter everyday if you cut out processed suger, caffeine and alcohol. Last thing you want to take is a statin drug like Crestor or Lipitor which have known to cause serious, serious muscle problems and have even been linked to ALS aka Lou Gherig's Disease which will kill you in about 2-3 years due to paralysis! Beware!
Avatar n tn My father needs to lower his cholesterol, but statins cause him significant muscle problems (Myositis) and elevated Creatine Kinase CPK and Aldalase. His symptoms resolve and tests return to normal when the statins are stopped. Are there any good alternatives to statins that will not cause him this side effect? Thanks for your help.

Avatar f tn I had high cholesterol but the doctor did not prescribed any medicine to lower my cholesterol but instead she advised me to lose weight because I was overweight for about 15 lbs. She said daily exercise will help me reduce weight and at the same time my cholesterol level will go down. I also eat oatmeal instead of rice and wheat bread instead of white bread. More fruits and vegetables instead of junk foods. When I went back for another test the level became normal. Thanks for healthy habits.
Avatar n tn A couple of things to keep in mind. First off, cholesterol levels are dynamic in nature. Remember that in addition to what you eat, your body also makes cholesterol based on it's needs. One area that the body needs cholesterol in in the creation of cells so if you have an injury that is mending for example your body may create more LDL than normal. In your case you had modest increases in LDL and TGL and your HDL is very low. Your concern should be on increasing your HDL.
Avatar n tn I wouldn't say I eat a lot of red meat. Mostly I eat chicken and fish, rarely do I have steak though I love it. I do like bar-b-que either pork or beef, so probably have that once a week. My blood pressure is normal 118/68, but its the LDL that I just can't seem to lower. Maybe I'll try your suggestion and totally eliminate red meat.
Avatar m tn Hi there, a normal routine check up in december showed my cholesterol level to be 188, but an increase in my blood sugar, so i decided to cut out carbs and i was a high protein diet. Aftter 3 months my numbers increased to 226 i was shocked, I stopped eating unhealthy foods so i was expecting a great result because it was never that high when i was eating unhealthy foos, so after 3 months of healthy eating, its like a blow to my face. Please i need some advice and help.
Avatar n tn Your cholesterol is great and so are your triglycerides. Actually remarkably good. The reason why your cholesterol isn't very low, is that you have lots of the good cholesterol (HDL). This cholesterol is protective against cardiovascular disease. So your cholesterol profile is perfect. You would rather prefer your cholesterol profile than a total of 160 and a HDL of 37, for example.
Tbd Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums. This really is an excellent question. We recommend everyone have an annual physical and discuss this with their doctors. Controlling weight and eating habits benefits health in multiple ways. Since this is the cholesterol forum, we'll discuss this. First, please note that exercise is an important part of controlling cholesterol. This is because our "good" cholesterol or HDL is directly affected by exercise.
599170 tn?1300973893 will raise your (bad) cholesterol and lower your good (HDL) cholesterol. If you are eating lots of bean then you are getting your protein but your really would not know what your cholesterol is really because you are taking medication to lower it. I was told cause i was eating like you but no dairy and no meats that i was getting too many carb. from veg. and not getting enough proteins cause i really wasn't eating bean alot. My LDL was high and HDL was perfect.
Avatar f tn Lecithin does help indirectly lower cholesterol by helping to emulsify it, helping it to move more smoothly through the blood vessels. The problem with cholesterol is when it oxidizes, which causes it to stick to the blood vessel walls, narrowing them. If it doesn't oxidize, if it keeps moving and doesn't stick, no problem. But by itself, lecithin probably won't be enough to lower your LDL and triglycerides, which are the two "bad" forms of cholesterol.
Avatar f tn t functioning correctly, you are going to have extensive issues that will only get worse. Your cholesterol is high...you need to see a nutritionist for a diet plan to try to control it through diet and exercise (pretty much eat a lot of whole grains and vegetables and cut WAAAAY back on red meat and cut out trans fat as completely as possible). The Neutrophils and Lymphs are part of the WBC differential...I would like to see that ENTIRE differential and the total WBC count.
Avatar m tn What little I have found on the web about too LOW of cholesterol indicates that it is rare and basically say it is a problem, but nothing really about what to do about it to increase it. Also most reasons for low cholesterol seem to be genetic, either to fail to produce it in the liver and/or fail to be able to absorb it in the intestines. So what should she do?
5143317 tn?1383747820 You need to quantify it, then depending on what it is, experiment with alternative diets if you want to lower your cholesterol without taking a statin. Some people get great results, while others eventually need to add in a low level statin as well. Often you can see results in only a couple months. Worth a try if you want to avoid any use of statin. Or you might do both a more rigorous diet as well as a low level statin. Names you might look up, easily found on the internet.
Avatar n tn Egg yolks contain choline, that helps protect heart and brain function and prevents cholesterol and fat from accumulating in the liver. Almonds have fiber and monounsaturated fat, it helps to lower cholesterol. Garlic lowers total cholesterol and triglyceride. Eating fish and or taking fish oil is also good. Avatar n tn There is a huge body of evidence pointing to the ability of the diet to reverse type 2 diabetes and lower cholesterol levels. Give it a shot for a couple weeks and check your blood scores! I hope this helps!
Avatar n tn A lot of food products from cereal to margarine to special vitamin blends claim to lower cholesterol. Generally they don't make a big change in levels. I would guess they just don't make it worse like eating a giant bacon cheese burger. And remember, our bodies make cholesterol so not all of it comes from food and not all the margarine and cereal in the world can give us perfect numbers.
Tbd I want to know what can i do to lower my cholesterol, whether with medication or using natural products or foods.
