Avatar n tn I'm a 30 year old male who is in good shape and I exercise on average 5 days a week for 30 minutes or more. I did a triathlon two years ago with no problems. In recent history before the triathlon I went through a battery of heart tests that included 3 regular EKGs, a normal echo, a stress EKG, and a stress echo. Blood pressure is normal and I have a resting heart rate of around 55-65 bpm.
Avatar n tn I exercise regularly, and have completed a 1/2 marathon. I called my cardiologist to see if it would be ok to participate in a triathlon. (1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run) The cardiologist responded that I should exercise as long as it was comfortable, but not to exert myself too much. He advised me not to do the triathlon. I have a stress echo done every year, and do very well. In addition, I have no symptoms. My research does not seem to support what this physician recommends.
Avatar f tn I have put on truck loads of weight again (mainly through stress and depression). I want to compete in an off-road triathlon next year (and win my age group. Sub 3-hr for 1 km swim, 29 km MTB and 11km run). I understand that losing weight would bring me closer to my goal. (I read that for every pound of excess body weight you lose one minute over a marathon distance event.) Eating healthier also has all the documented benefits.
Avatar f tn I exercise quite a bit and typically average 5 hours per week running, 10 hours per week cycling, and 2-3 hours per week swimming (yes, I train for triathlon...). That said, during the swim I have noticed that my Heart Rate does not increase much above 115 to 120 and it feels like my Heart is pumping very hard. I check my pulse after 500m on my Carotid Artery and it seems to be a much stronger 'pulse' than when running or cycling.

20845080 tn?1532914936 Hi! I had my thyroid removed 45 days ago. I was trainning for triathlon and I would like to start trainning again. My trainner is afraid I might have some heart problems because I had my thyroid removed, eventhough my endocrinologist allow me to get back to my normal life. Is there any athlete here in this Community who went through a complete thyroid removal? does this affects his endurance? should I see a cardiologist? Thanks!!!
Avatar n tn says I will be able to go back to work on the following Monday (I have a desk job). However, the surgery is scheduled during the middle of training for my first sprint triathlon in mid-May (1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike and 3 mile run). I managed to arrange the surgery for the week after a marathon, but given the size of the cyst, he didn't want to wait until after the triathlon for the surgery. How long should I expect the recovery period to be before I can resume my training? My Dr.
Avatar f tn About two months ago I started training for a triathlon. I was swimming in the bay and got an eye infection. I took an antibiotic and an anti fungal, the doctor thought it could be staph or a fungus. I did this for 5 days and it looked like it was going away. Then it came back rapidly. I took another round of topical and oral medication and it has sense been gone (two weeks now). But, I then started having pains in my body knees, shoulders, wrists elbows, neck pain, etc.
1194767 tn?1264980596 i think i use the injury as a reason to use. any help on what i can do to prepare for the next time. i do triathlon and mountain climb its only a matter of time before i get hurt again?
Avatar n tn hi, i hope someone can give me some quick feedback on this. my husband got in a 4 wheeler accident last sat morning (about 1250 am) he cut the left front forehead very badly, to the skull and required 19 stitches. he did not lose conciousness, but he obviously hit his head very hard on the roll bar. (it is a side by side 4 wheeler with a steering wheel and seatbelts like a car.) and no, he did not have a seatbelt on.
1385752 tn?1283950523 t seem concerned as long as my heart rate settles back down, which it has been doing after a ride. (max bpm for my age according to the internet is 181bpm) I wear a heart rate monitor and if I keep my HR 120-150bpm I feel fine - got into the 170 range and felt like vomiting! Has anyone else 'competed' with a low Hg and how did you fare? Thanks for any input!

I managed to arrange the surgery for the week after a marathon, but given the size of the cyst, he didn't want to wait until after the triathlon for the surgery. Avatar f tn From what my best friend has said they did a ct right away and brought me back to recovery after apparently begging them to let her come back because no one was aloud into the recovery area they finally let her. That night I had a chest tube put in and was later taken for an mri before being transferred to the neuro icu.
Avatar m tn I was a competitive athlete (triathlons, adventure racing, marathoner) and training for my third Ironman Triathlon when I started have problems (dizziness, shortness of breath). My EKG came back with a Long QT symptom and further tests revealed Ventricular Tachycardia (lower left chamber of heart). I now have a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted and am scheduled for an ablation since the medication is not helping (I have went into VFIB or cardiac arrest on multiple occasions).
Avatar m tn d like to know how long it takes before symptoms develop. I bought a new triathlon bike and rode 12 miles on it on a Tuesday morning. I felt fine all day and even went for a short run that night. The next morning, Tuesday, I still felt fine. Sometime around 10AM, 26 hours after my bike ride, I began to feel sore in my lower back. I've had this before when I lift something heavy the incorrect way.
748902 tn?1286034758 For your information Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island. Father and son went on to complete the race together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?
Avatar m tn I suffered miserably for 6 months, finally i started to be fully pain free to the point i did a small triathlon 9 months after surgery. i have been pain free for almost 2 yrs, working around the house, biking skiing etc. now for some unknown reason i have recurrent pain in my back and leg numbness and pain in my foot and leg again. same side as before. the MRI is negative for new damage, the xrays appear clear from damage.
Avatar f tn Anyway when I was talking to the sharp Nurse Practitionor who did the right test that may have saved my life she told me about another very fit guy who was training for a triathlon and his left shoulder/chest hurt and finally came in to have it looked at. He was in his early 30's by the way. Turned out has was having a major heart attack but due to his conditioning was able to deal with it. Regardless he was medivacked to a hospital to deal with the situation.
Avatar f tn My emotions are all over the place! Trying to plan for both a new baby girl and possible graduation and boards. Some times I feel like I need to stop and breathe a bit of fresh air but then I just tell my self that I am woman and hear me roar! Ha ha crazy times ladies...crazy times.
Avatar n tn Up to now I have attributed it to getting older and not lifting weights as much. I exercise 4-6 days/week and am training for a triathlon so am in pretty good shape. I find that my legs feel weak, or like they may give out on me, more on the days that I do not exercise. Even walking up the stairs they feel tired/weak. It has been getting worse despite trying to lift weights more often (up to 3/week).
Avatar f tn You don't have to exercise through your pregnancy. Yes its better for you and will help labor but you don't have to do it.
Avatar f tn Hi I'm a 20 year-old female and I have been exercising and eating healthy for about a month now and I haven't lost a single pound. I am also trying to lose the belly fat that i have always had. I eat 3 meals a day and if im hungry i have a snack like fruit or a fiber1 bar. I also exercise about 5 days a week and that includes weights, ab crunches, and 30 minutes of cardio either on the elliptical or treadmill with intervals.
377493 tn?1356502149 0) My first pregnancy I really went w/the eating for 2 theory but smartened up by baby #2. Baby #3 has just been unpredictable eating. ALL THE TIME EATING. It's the bigger people that gain a lot of weight that's a worry I think. Enjoy mama!!
