Avatar m tn For that reason, you need to eat very frequently in order to preventing use of your own muscle mass as a source of nutrition for vital organs; we recommend you eat at least three meals a day and three to four snacks between meals. Patients who are overweight should be careful to eat low-calorie meals and low-calorie snacks. Patients who are under-nourished should have high-calorie meals and snacks. Bedtime snacks are especially important.

Avatar n tn If you want to get big like a bodybuilder, that will require unhealthy eating such as eating too much food and too much protein, but it does work to build more muscle mass. Too much protein is very hard on the kidneys and other parts of the body, and too much food is hard on the digestive system and the internal organs. No natural living human needs muscle mass for strength -- hunter gatherers are very strong, farmers are very strong, but they don't necessarily have big muscles.
Avatar f tn Great choices for post workout is a combination of protein and whole grain carbohydrates. I usually go for a protein shake with a little oatmeal, or 4 ounces of chicken with some quinoa. Some people choose a simple protein bar, but be careful of excessive sugars and fats. Quest bars are usually the best choice since many can pack either a ton of sugar or worse, fake sugars.
Avatar f tn Hey buddy, You're doing a pretty good job. I would suggest calculating your basal metabolic rate (the amount of energy your body uses when resting to keep you alive, essentially) and your daily caloric requirement (how many calories you should consume per day to maintain your weight, not lose or gain) based on your height and weight. You can do that by Googling how to.

Avatar m tn t going to make you healthier and might make you less healthy and shorten your life, but it is the way to increase muscle. Increasing muscle usually requires eating more, not less, but eating different foods. Again, it isn't a healthy thing to do, it's what people do who want bigger muscles quickly. For you it will take some time if that's your real age, and some people have better genetics for muscle gain than others.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure, but any instance of 'losing muscle' does not seem right and should probably be checked out by a doctor. I'm not sure any of us here can correctly diagnose this.

Avatar n tn well that's just my problem. how can someone who already excersizes and eats properly, lose weight? basically not playing tennis or not running would be like eating a hamburger for someone else haha! Avatar f tn The nutritionist committed me to one month of perfect eating, sleeping, routine walks and no alcohol. After the month I was symptom free. No headaches, great energy, and the muscle aches have subsided. I've been maintaining the proper diet, sleep, walking and moderation on alcohol. The nutritionist suspected that I was using alcohol and pain releif in excess. Q: why would ACM suffers not be prescribed the natural pain relief instead of always talking about surgery?

Avatar m tn Hello. I am a 26 year old male with a strong family history of type 2 diabetes(father, his mother) and heart disease (father, both grandfathers). Two years ago I got an A1C done and it was 5.7. Last month I got it tested again and it was 5.4. I've been on a very healthy diet with lower carbs, no sugar, more fiber, more unsaturated fats(especially Omega 3), limited saturated fat and completely cut out trans fats. About 85-90% of my diet is unprocessed whole foods that I cook myself.
