Part of recovery is learning that it isn't as much about food and weight but the feelings beneath those things. Good luck to you on getting the help you need.

Get a referral to a therapist experienced with eating disorders and you and the therapist will decide if you need a higher level of care. I also highly recommend attending OA meetings to develop a support system in your area and to work with a sponsor.
Avatar f tn Hey guys, I'm 5'8 and I weigh about 12 stone 6. I'm currently doing yoga and about half an hour to an hour of cardio (bike) I do have muscle but I need to lose the fat.. I eat salads and vegetables and snack on fruit, but the weight never stays off for long, it's only been a week and I've lost 5 lbs, but is there anything else I should be doing, should be eating, other things to try at all?
Avatar f tn The facility also specialized in treating eating disorders. My rehab roomate struggled with anorexia and bulimia. I sure learned alot about eating disorders in that time. I'm so glad you are posting about this. It sounds like you are being swept up in a cross addiction. This is a serious addiction that does kill many young women and men. A few of the girls I met had heart attacks and now live with pacemakers.
Avatar n tn Diabetes Mellitus, Hyperthyroidism, eating disorders, food fads, hormonal disorders, abdominal disorders etc., each of these is a relatively distinct disorder and may require examination and investigation to eliminate. While Diabetes and hyperthyroidism are endocrinal disorders, eating disorders and food fads is noticed in young females, who may have inclination to have a particular type of food. Avatar f tn You need to consult a psychiatrist who specializes in eating disorders. Also depression would need to be treated side by side. Please consult your parents, maybe your school or college therapist and some else whom you can trust and who can talk to your parents. Please try and see a therapist as soon as possible. Just remember, though you feel as though you will not get over it, you will soon be able to follow a diet and exercise program that will help you eat and lose weight. Take care!
Avatar m tn Right now you are focussed on the issue of weight but food and weight are only a part of the problem, and the least important part at that. Eating disorders are about much more than food and weight, they are about emotions. Obsessing on a couple pounds and going on a roller coaster of weight loss followed by binging is all part of the cycle of an eating disorder. Fortunately, the good news is that you haven't had this eating disorder for very long which makes it easier to treat.
Avatar n tn Medical doctors can also make a referral, but make sure it is to a therapist, not just a doctor, and one who works with eating disorders. Eating disorders are physical, emotional and psychological and all those things need to be treated including the issues that are underneath the eating.

The more upset you are about eating and then hard on yourself for eating, the more food, weight and appearance will dominate your thoughts. The more upset, the more you eat. This is a vicious cycle that can be broken. Also high anxiety and panic attacks, which are common with those who suffer with food disorders, can be successfully addressed.
Avatar n tn hi, as a person who has an ed i think that you shuldnt think of it as what can a theripist do that i cant eating disorders are complex and i know for me personally its hard to talk to my family about my ed i tend to feel guilty and like they dont understand my family seems to think that im somehow doing things just to hurt them. talking to a theripist was easier .

You are experiencing a relapse after an amazing remission. I would recommend seeking treatment for both your depression and your eating disorder.
