It's only in the recent years as our society has focused on pure, organic, and raw foods has this new obessive compulsive form of restriction emerged and is has now been coined orthorexia.

I was wondering if anybody here has heard or knows anyone with this condition (better explanation on wikipedia). And I am wondering where i can check if she might use pills to stimulate diarhea.

I assumed she had anorexia - eating disorder from any cause - and that is why I assumed the anorexia resulted from her cirrhosis. Now, that I have read the gossip/Oprah stuff I lean more towards Willy's opinion.

Avatar f tn "Why" is never a simple question when it comes to eating disorders. Eating disorders have many causes, some of them related to ideas and feelings about food and body weight, some of them having to do with other feelings and moods and ideas. What is important right now is not "why" so much as getting help. Neither bulimia or compulsive overeating are manifested with low body weight. Most bulimics have normal weight or a bit over.
Avatar f tn I have never had anorexia but a good friend of mine did and she went through the same problem of becoming a binge eater after recovering from anorexia. One thing I want you to remember is that both anorexia and binge eating are eating disorders. One is not better then the other and both can take a toll on your health. Your weight seems to actually be pretty healthy for your height but if you are unhappy because your weight gain is not through healthy ways, I can understand your concern.
Avatar m tn Is she scared to gain weight? Is she obsessive about her body? If so, these are signs of anorexia nervosa. Sometimes when someone doesn't eat for a while the stomach gets smaller and a person can feel full faster. This can happen even for a person who does not show signs of or have an eating disorder. Is the reason she hasn't been eating much lately because she feels sick, or does she feel sick because she hasn't been eating much lately?

The past several months, I've been able to restrict and fast more and have probably lost more weight, but I'm still not thin enough to fit the weight criteria for anorexia nervosa or even be considered underweight.
