Avatar m tn Influenza viruses can cause a common cold or flu, leading a healthy individual to take a few days or a week off work. However, the flu can exacerbate existing health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, and inflammatory disorders, leading to severe complications for individuals over 65 with a weakened immune system.
Avatar f tn I realize that these symptoms can probably be attributed to an ear infection, but I feel like since ear infections are not common in adults and that it's happening right within the time ARS symptoms would show up, that it might be too much of a coincidence. I also finished a round of antibiotics about a week ago, which would make an ear infection unlikely also.
Avatar n tn I don't think there is a name for it and it shouldn't prevent you from diagnosing you or your child should you have an infection. Tugging at ears? Crying a lot? Get baby checked for ear infection. My kids had ear infections without fever. They diagnose an ear infection by looking in. So, you'll just need to read the signs of your child. Go by other symptoms and you should be fine as also, fever can be tricky to read lots of times.

242516 tn?1368223905 ve got a cold like millions of other adults right now around the world. Colds are upper respiratory infections that are almost always caused by viruses in adults. They typically get better after a week to ten days. Viruses can even cause colored mucous, that thick discharge you can't see through, which many people believe only can come from a bacterial infection. Colds can even cause pressure in sinuses, when viruses affect the sinuses .

Avatar f tn Anxiety or cardiovascular problems can cause the last two, but these would not cause ear pain. Ear pain could be an ear infection, TMJ problem, or something else. Dr. Jimmy is right about the symptoms of Meniere's. Doesn't sound like you have Meniere's at all. Good luck, Nancy T.
Avatar m tn My ENT finally suggested putting a tube in one ear. Tubes are a hard call for adults. My ENT said that about 50% of adults who have them done, have them removed. Have you tried Afrin for three days? If you haven't, that might help some. Only use it for three days or you could experience rebound congestion (addiction). You can take three days off and rotate. I pray that you find a solution soon.
Avatar m tn you might want to ask a dr if they though an mir might be apropriate to rule out any kind of growth or obstruction of eustachian tube... an infection in your ear can also spread by direct contact to your throat and through blood flow to other areas.. it might be a severe bactiria like staph or mrsa which are hard to get rid of and require mutiple treatments and in such an inclosed space it would be easy for it to excalate to even worse symptoms...

Avatar f tn You can bry garlic drops at a health food store. If you can't find them you can infuse garlic in olive oil and put a few drops in your ear. Put a piece of cotton ball in your ear to keep the oil from draining out.

1095010 tn?1284172980 If you have lots of congestion its possible for it to feel like - or sound like - you have a hearing loss. Often when I get a cold I get so much congestion in my sinus cavities and irritation in my throat that the swelling puts pressure on my eustation (sp?) tubes and the tissue around them -- making it seem like I cant hear as well. I've heard of high fevers causing deafness in small chldren, and a few cases in adults.

Avatar f tn In regards to getting shingles in your ear, judging by my current symptoms, yes. I have quite a few "rashes" on one side of my head and neck, and that ear is in a lot of pain. It all showed up at the same time. I thought it was an ear infection with unrelated chemical burns from work, until my diagnosis. I see the ENT on Monday. It'll be a long wait.
Avatar f tn You can get a throat culture to see if you carry it. But since you have symptoms you should probably see a specialist. Your symptoms could be caused by something else too.
