Avatar m tn Possibilities that may need to be considered include medication side effect, psychological issues such as anxiety, autonomic or hormonal/ endocrine imbalance, neuro-muscular issues etc. There is no specific time limit before urinary retention becomes an emergency; it usually depends on the amount of urine and more commonly on the severity of symptoms.
Avatar m tn Hi, my wife have a difficulty in urinating (Urinary retention). This happens only when she doesn't drink enough water especially during weekend or any off schedules days. She also experience the pain in the back where kidneys are located.Once she starts drinking water, problem resolves in couple of hours. I want to know that how serious is this a problem ? What is the reason and treatments ? Thank you !
1221035 tn?1301000508 Urinary problems of all sorts are common with MS. Retention is a serious issue, as urine can back up into the kidneys and cause all kinds of problems from there. Also, the longer urine is in the bladder, the greater the chance of infection. UTIs can be dangerous, as many here know from experience. I urge you to see a urologist, or if possible a urogynecologist, as soon as you can. There are tests that can tell a lot about the state of your urinary functioning.
Avatar m tn t work for you after giving it a month to take effect try a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRI) like Duloxetine (Cymbalta, Yentreve). It acts a bit differently than the common selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) like Zoloft you are taking. So if Zoloft really don't work i would realy sugest the Cymbalta. Some info on Cymbalta Duloxetine (Cymbalta, Yentreve) is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor manufactured and marketed by Eli Lilly.
Avatar m tn I experienced urinary retention after removing the catheter the day follow HoLAP. The procedure, necessitated by ongoing BPH symptoms, went smoothly, and I was back home that same day. After enduring 8 hours of retention, a catheter was reinserted with cathetrization to be continued for another 6 to 7 days. There was no indication of infection, although I don't know if a urine culture was even taken. But, I am taking Cipro 500MG twice daily.
Avatar f tn //www.depend.com.au/urinary-incontinence/causes/urinary-retention/ What's not on the above list are medication side effects eg tricyclic antidepressants, mental health conditions and menopause, the below list of causes gives more details into the different types of situations that can cause bladder retention....
Avatar n tn A weak bladder muscle, chronic obstruction, and nerve diseases or injury all can contribute to chronic urinary retention. Please discuss these possibilities with your urologist and check which ones have been ruled out in your case. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn Has antone had a cysto done for urinary retention? I had a uti 3 weeks ago (which has since healed) but ever since I've had retention anywhere from 50-200cc post void. the urologist suggested a cysto I'm concerned that the irritation from surgery would make things worse. Does anyone have any insight?
Avatar n tn Are you drinking 2 to 3 liters of water daily or have you been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection? If you cannot void at all, your urologist may have you self cath for a period of time. If you could provide more information, perhaps our suggestions would not have to be so general. Good luck.
Avatar n tn You need to call your doctor if you experience fever, excessive bleeding, urinary retention, or testicular pain. Blood clots can block the flow of urine, causing urinary retention. Your bladder may need to be washed out to remove the clots. As, you already have got your bladder irrigated, there is nothing to worry. Do not remove the catheter until the colour of urine changes or until your doctor advises.
Avatar f tn Just want to add that frequency, retention seem to be lumped together under urinary incontinence in stuff I've read. I didn't think anything of the first two issues - not really thinking they were that abnormal - until a one off (so far lol) occurrence of the third lead me to read up on it. Called it in and next day got call that neuro wanted 3 mris - and I am not even dx'd - so apparently they take urinary stuff pretty seriously!! So please do share with your neuro.
Avatar n tn Hi, If you are retaining urine in your bladder, it’s probably due to some obstruction inthe urinary tract which could possibly be due to the urethral stricture or due to the enlarged prostate. I don’t think catheterizing oneself is a good idea as it’s not only uncomfortable but also significantly increases the chnaces of introducing the infections in the urinary tract resulting in more problems.
Avatar n tn Im not quite sure about this cocodamol, but alot of medications etc can cause problems with urination, mostly problems like urinary retention - where the bladder can become so extended and needs just an in out catheter to release it, or a subpubic catheter wich is more permanent. Its more likely to effect the elderly more, but i myself have had troubles with meds and urinary retention. Hope i have helped out at all.
Avatar f tn But last week they removed catheter and I had urinary retention with frequent urination . They reinserted the catheter for two more days and again they removed it but the problem of urinary retention persist with frequent urination in every 15 min. Now they have again inserted catheter and will remove it after one week. Pl tell me if the problem will resolve or not.
Avatar n tn Citralka liquid or Sodium Acid Citrate, is indicated for acidosis, Pyelitis, Urinary retention, Chronic renal insufficiency and Urinary retention. Hope this information helps. Best.
Avatar n tn As I posted in my other topic (sorry for making two topics), I have been having fluctuating urinary symptoms for the past 6 months. Mostly chronic urinary retention, where I feel like I empty 70%-90% of the bladder. When I have a bowel movement my urinary symptoms are the worst, and I'll feel like I have to urinate but I push and nothing happens until I "release". Anyway, I had a bowel movement today and the usual happened (urine came out in short bursts).
Avatar n tn First thing to note, Unfortunately smoking does affects the amount of duloxetine in your system and blood stream meaning that you will loose between 40 - 50% of the duloxetine dose you take. It is not uncommon for people to have their duloxetine prescription increased if they smoke.

It is not uncommon for people to have their duloxetine prescription increased if they smoke. Unfortunately it is not uncommon if you miss a dose to be experiencing these problems if your on a high dose, my patients even at a dose of 30mg do experience brain zaps, nausea and vomiting even with just one day missed.
737151 tn?1232299776 It is difficult to say without having information about history and examination. But urinary retention is a effect of obstruction of the urinary tract. Obstruction can occur due to enlargement of the prostate gland, which in turn causes infection. Other obstructions include a narrowing of the urethra, which may arise because of infection or inflammation, stone in the tract, nerve damage, or a tightening of the foreskin, called phimosis. Hope this information helps. Best.
Avatar n tn I have many irritating side effects though, such as urinary retention, bad breath, and I sweat a lot more than I used to. For the urinary retention I take Xatral which helps some of the time, but it's still, it's often difficult to pee. My breath is rancid, always, and when I sweat, it stinks and I can't stand the smell. I know that I can't go off this medication, so if anyone has solutions to these side effects please let me know. I would be very greatful.
