362203 tn?1248810310 Doctors are conflicted, however, about breastfeeding for women who are being treated for hyperthyroidism, even with PTU. These studies showing the effects of these drugs on breastfeeding infants have been small, so no medical experts have said that any antithyroid drug is 100% safe for use while breastfeeding.

Avatar f tn I have taken these few days to do some searching through the medical literature and while there are many worrisome reports cropping up about the effects on the adult users, there is precious little on the effects in pregnancy, and nothing at all on the long term effects on children who have been effected. Spice is as relatively new "stuff" on the market, but what is know about it is very alarming. Professor John W.

698046 tn?1228077849 Surfactant production in the lungs greatly increases in the last month of a normal length pregnancy, so premature infants may not produce enough of it initially. Surfactant helps the little air sacs in the lungs (called "alveoli") to stay open and not collapse. After birth, even in a premature infant, the lungs are stimulated to start producing more surfactant.

Other PIs have been shown to have serious cardio side effects, so, hopefully, the testing will be thorough Then there's Albuferon, a form of IFN that lasts longer and only has to be dosed aprox half as long. They have been trying to figure out the optimum dosing schedule for about five years now.
Avatar f tn Oh MY WORD!!!! Yes!!! Baby will have effects. It will be born with withdrawals... Especially if this isn't a one time thing. That breaks my heart.
Avatar f tn My friend recently told me that she dipped her cigarette into cocaine and smoked it. I didn't like the fact that she did it but to make matters worse, she's pregnant and was pregnant when she did it. She's only 15 weeks along but I was wondering how this could effect the pregnancy or the child. It was only one time but I'm still worried that there could be side effects.
Avatar m tn In this case a google search for haloperidol and zyprexa can give you information on both drugs and how they work and their side effects so when your brother sees his doctor he can ask the right questions.
Avatar f tn Available data for Amphetamines suggest no increase in the risk of malformation when used at therapeutic doses, while infants might have slightly lower birth weights. Human data on Methylphenidate is limited and we cannot rule out the risk of malformation given the available information. Alternative pharmacologic treatment options include tricyclic antidepressants, bupropion and clonidine; these drugs have more evidence to support their safety in pregnancy." from - http://www.
