Common Questions and Answers about Drugs during labor and delivery

drug

Avatar f tn I will be getting an epidural! And any other pain meds they give me. I'm having another c section, and I'm allergic to morphine and demerol. (Two most popular and common drugs given during delivery.) So pain management is a bit harder for me. Both my boys are fine after epidurals! They are 4 and 1.
Avatar f tn was you i would start drinking LOADS of water and **** out as much thc levels as you can.before your delivery. I recommend you.dont smoke nothing at all. You are young but dont be so.stupid this shouldve been the month where you.shouldnt have smoked anything at all. This is a very crucial time for your babys devolping lungs. I hope you know that. Thier lungs are one of the last things that mature in the last weeks of your pregnancy. Dont screw up ur angels lungs just because your nauseos.

Avatar f tn m nervous about going into labor wondering how long the pain will last, will I be able to handle it and how long will I be in labor. Ladies any tips on how I should be calm? HELP!
Avatar f tn This is my first and I am completely freaking out about ripping and tearing and stitches and pooping during labor. Please tell me these horror stories can be avoided or don't happen to everyone.
Avatar n tn I had my cardiologist send my OB reccomendations of what to do during my labor and delivery. When I went into labor, all the medications were ready and waiting in case they needed anything. I was monitored during the entire labor. My cardiologist suggested that I have an epidural very early in my labor, which I did, so that the prolonged pain of labor didnt worsen my arrhythmias. This plan worked very well for me and I did not have any issues throughout the entire labor and delivery.
Avatar f tn You can, but I used to wear those and they can be pretty uncomfortable and labor is pretty uncomfortable, lol. I would honestly go as comfortable as you can so you can relax and rest. Even if people take pictures, people understand that you're going through labor and you don't need to be a beauty queen, im sure youre beautiful without them.
Avatar m tn I heard that I may not get epidural during labor. i was diagnosed almost two years ago and the only time I felt pain was a year ago. my questions: will I need to go through a c section? can I get an epidural during labor. I feel anxious just thinking about going through labor without epidural...
Avatar f tn My dad was there when I had my first. I thought it would be awkward at first but I have a great relationship with my dad so it really wasn't. Plus during labor my bd started getting faint and had to sit down so my dad was there to help hold my leg.
11803947 tn?1430842645 When I say natural labor I mean no drugs what so ever. For some reason lately I hear women say natural labor and they used epidural. I guess the definition was updated. ... Anyways. First time mom and I really really really want to have my little girl with no drugs. Deff a big NO to epidural. Yea I know some will say why go through the pain if you don't have to well we were designed to have babies so we should know how it feels.
Avatar f tn I wish I had opted for the morphine first because my daughter was born less than an hour after getting the epidural and the back pain I have had for 4 years is not worth the temporary relief I got during labor and delivery. I am going to do the IV pain medication this time and stay strong to not ask for the epidural. It isn't worth the risk of permanent back pain.
448723 tn?1301454958 I have known a couple babies that showed stress and the dr did nothing and the baby almost died! There should be more nurses on labor and delivery then there are, that would make a big difference for both mothers and babies and the final outcome of the birth. Also if they were trained in both medical and natural birthing.
Avatar f tn Well I felt the needle grinding on my bones while getting I inserted and it numbed my legs so I felt everything and my legs were numb for about 5 hours after delivery so the nurses kept coming in to poke my legs to see I I could feel them which was makin me freak out.
Avatar f tn I know this is a very extremely personal question for a lot of us moms, but I have to ask if any of you moms pooped during delivery? I know this exists--that it does happen and that it's exactly how you should push. If so, what was the experience like and was epidural helpful to push your little one out? And if not, what did you do prior to being transported to the hospital?
Avatar f tn My first pregnancy I was worried until towards the end but I kept saying she got in there she has to come out some how lol. You will be suprised what your body can handle during labor and delivery.
9041091 tn?1410417329 I had to before I got induced and with my other, the nurses gave me an enema when I was admitted into labor and delivery.
Avatar f tn Breathing will get you through most of labor just fine - and you still need to breathe effectively during the pushing stage - but you can't breathe out a baby. It's still a big head and a little hole, it's not quite that easy. That's how it was for my birth experience, anyway... YMMV. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I didn't have it with my labor but I've had it with other procedures/surgeries and it just makes you loopy and not focused on what's going on... But then again, labor is very painful and besides completely numbing your lower half, I'm not sure if anything can take your mind off of the pain!!
Avatar f tn I was wondering if it is true some women poop during delivery? Is there anyway to avoid that???
1979414 tn?1337803349 m curious how your delivery went, and if your pvcs, pacs went away after delivery. I developed ventriculur tachycardia and pvcs during my recent pregnancy. Cardiologists insisted that I had a c section. Their thinking was that if I had arrythmia during labor, the baby might not get enough blood. The c section went well, but my heart went a little crazy after delivery. I had to be monitored during my hospital stay. My heart has since calmed down.
Avatar f tn s overall a less than 1% risk of transmitting hsv1 to the baby during delivery as long as no obvious lesions are present at the time of delivery . should you have obvious lesions the week before you are due or when you are in labor, a C section will be performed. You can take acyclovir or valtrex for the last month of pregnancy in the pregnancy doses if you are interested in order to increase the odds of not having an obvious lesion present close to delivery.
7557112 tn?1399509472 So soon I'll be giving birth (48 days) left :D& i was wondering if I could drink tea to help me relax during labor . I have bad anxiety so I don't wanna feel all crazy & stuff In the moment just chilled out & focus on my breathing techniques to help cope with the pain. Some women drink water so is tea acceptable?
94902 tn?1330479667 I take metaprolol daily to help, but my body has never been through something like labor and delivery and I am scared to death that something bad will happen to me. Has anyone been through labor and delivery that has irregular heartbeats? Any stories, personal experiences, advice, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Oh - and i have had anxiety ever since the first tachycardia attack as well.
Avatar f tn I was given an orange popsicle. threw it all up. I didn't have a c section, But nausea is very common during labor and delivery and throwing up when delivering is NO fun.
Avatar f tn Because they affect your entire body and may make both you and your baby sleepy, these drugs are mainly used during early labor to help you rest and conserve your energy. Hopefully this will help you hun good luck. i had choosen to get an epi. and they hit the wrong spot and it didnt work it made it worse unbearible and they had to give me a second one.
Avatar n tn ve been losing sleep thinking for weeks about the idea of either myself or the baby dying during delivery .. I have very good doctors and an amazing hospital but I'm anemic I tend to lose a lot of blood when I do bleed. I'm horrible with any pain .. I don't think my body can handle it! And people keep telling me about how I'll tear ? Which worries me I'll bleed more. It's making me so worried .. Does it occur often ??
