Avatar f tn These combo of drugs is bad bad bad. I hope he goes to see a dr and also gets the help he needs with rehab etc, there is help out there. As far as the crystal meth goes, that is one of the most addictive drugs and many don't come back from it. I am glad you want to help him, but he has to want to help himself, first and foremost. Keep us updated and I wish you both the best. Please take care of yourself. Have you ever heard of alanon?

Avatar m tn Hey Mike, you're right, not all are fortunate enough to get to a treatment center. It's unfortunate that they are not more accessible to everyone, but I can tell you that you don't need treatment to get through detox, and involve yourself in a 12 step program. Basically that is the outcome of any treatment program.
Avatar m tn This is something rehab facilities do -- cold turkey. But cold turkey on benzos can cause seizures, so this is clearly malpractice. Benzos are considered by addiction specialists to be the hardest as to prolonged withdrawals -- but probably only because they don't technically define antidepressants as addictive -- so I would get on the horn with everyone you can think of -- your psychiatrist, the rehab facility, whoever -- and if it comes to it threaten malpractice.
Avatar f tn I would try to go the detox/rehab route because of the combination of the drugs and alcohol. A focused intervention with a drug counselor could be set up with a trip to detox immediately. Look in your phone book for drug/alcohol assistance. It is usually in the front pages in a special services section. She is in heavy denial and needs to be approached with a worked out strategic plan. Good Luck. Ask for lots of help.
660680 tn?1225215237 As for what i did 15 years ago, I made the decision that my marriage was more important than alcohol and stopped. I also focused on fitness and running along with cycling. All that worked until my financial picture change in 2006 and the stress levels went through the roof. Found myself working more with little time for outside pursuits.
Avatar m tn Thank you all for your insights. I agree with hellc@mst, self-accountability really matters regardless of your choice. But I read an article at sober.com that explains the importance of entering a treatment center. It helps you learn the refusal technique, plus the 12-steps. I guess, complete package really matters.

Avatar m tn I know lithium intensifies with alcohol but know after not drinking for two weeks my hands are still shaking. Is it the combination of lithium and alcohol and the alcohol that is causing this? I plan to stop drinking and feel I have no problem doing that but how do I stop my hands from shaking?
Avatar f tn Run fast and quickly. or get him into rehab. if u stay u will lose it all...plz i know how it works he will pawn, sell and give away whatever he can to get high. Crack is not addictive physically but mentally grabs u. i was stuck on crack as i was finishig my doctorate i went from hiding to an open user in front of my husband who was leaving... i stopped because like a child i had a consequense. does he have something he will lose?
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) and a drug called campral. The camoral helps to take away the cravings for alcohol and it worked for me, but everyone is different and what worked for me may not work for everyone.
Avatar f tn ) when r u due?
Avatar f tn plane ride was ok On the way up to Queensland, I was fine, but on the way back I had lots of misses beats and lots of pounding in my chest, but I sat in my chair and just took deep breaths, and thought about all you support and answers, and I was fine. The holiday was fantastic, in Australia the Gold Coast Surfers Paradise is a place where its all fun and parties and lots of surfing (although not by me) I cant even swim lol.
Avatar f tn Yes, many times. I'd love to get sober and my family have tried to support me in finding a doctor willing, but there just isn't and private rehab is extortionate here. I seem to just be going around in circles; I know you can cut down gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms, but I seem to have a problem with maintaining that. I'm just very scared to be honest; the idea of withdrawal terrifies me...
Avatar n tn t control how or when they drink, then they made the decision and alcohol took priority over family, work, and friends. Basically destroy any relationship other than the one with the bottle. Deep down, I still feel that way, however there is much medical evidence that proves me wrong. Because the medical profession does see alcoholism as a disease, you can get inpatient therapy if that is something that you are able to do.
557230 tn?1269429829 You've just heard this from other "experts" but I'm going to chime in as well. The problem with using another drug (alcohol is as much a drug as oxy) is that you're still using a chemical to change your brain while you're "having fun." All drugs lower your power to resist other drugs....and if you don't learn to have chemical free fun, you could just substitute one drug for another.
194838 tn?1303428544 Just wondered if anyone had heard of this new drug that is being used for Ovarian cancer. Angie http://ovariancancer.about.com/b/2008/09/15/yondelis-a-new-effective-drug-in-ovarian-cancer.
Avatar f tn Hi there, my husband relapsed (drugs/alcohol) early on in our relationship and cheated ... went to a 90 day rehab and has been clean and sober since. We've been clean and sober together for 17 years now. Sobriety can happen if a person is "willing to go to any lengths" to achieve their sobriety. I had to have my husband committed to a Psychiatric ward, and put on meds for Paranoid Schizophrenia prior to a 90 day drug rehab.
Avatar m tn I am currently in an outpatient rehab, and I have told them some terrible things that I did to get my DOC (drug of choice), but they did not tell on me to anyone. I don't think any rehabs do that. It is my understanding that outpatient rehabs are more affordable than inpatient rehabs. I have just recently been told about and am researching rehab scholarships. Basically, you apply to get money to go to rehab. Maybe that would be something he could look into.
Avatar m tn I am seeking help for my father, who has been addicted to alcohol and drugs like 1 year now. After my mom passed away, he is all alone and put himself in to this risk. I have tried to talk to him but he denies and keep on ignoring whatever we asked him to do. I have contacted a counselling center in Toronto, Bellwood Health Services ( http://www.bellwood.ca/drug-addiction/ ) but I don’t know how to convince my father for the recovery program.
Avatar f tn Ellison Stephenson in on the Gold Coast, and she has a private clinic in Benowa, and runs a clinic day at Gold Coast University Hospital on Thursdays. She has a website www.elsneuro.
4113881 tn?1415850276 Hi all! I just wanted to share something as I'm really excited. I went to the Alcohol & Drug Counselor certification class orientation last night. It was awesome! Right now Im in my last semester in college and will graduate with my 2 year AA in Social and Behavioral Sciences. That's all fine and good but it doesn't so much make me employable in what I want to do. I want to be a substance abuse counselor and to do that you have to get a recognized certification.
Avatar f tn That is 1) We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives have become unmanageable. So many people get through the detox, at home (which can be dangerous and is often done though a medically supervised detox). It's like it's all or nothing. Those that don't have the opportunity to go to a residential / outpatient Rehab Facility do not instead go to an Addictions Therapist and use them for the therapy that is many times necessary to quit an addictive substance.
