Avatar f tn Last year, 750,000 methadone prescriptions were written for pain relief, but only 250,000 people were treated with the drug for addiction to heroin and other opioids, Reuter tells WebMD. Methadone can suppress drug withdrawal symptoms as an addiction treatment for 24 hours; the drug's ability to suppress pain lasts just four to eight hours. But methadone stays in the system as long as 59 hours.
Avatar m tn such statistics are very soft. Oral sex, probably. Or injection drug use. In any case, the point should be reassuring: transmission by oral sex is very rare.
Avatar n tn I am hoping to reach others who are suffering from, or have a family member/friend suffering from Ultram addiction: I lost my brother on July 9, 2008....he committed suicide. Why? ULTRAM!!!! Yes, my brother suffered with his addiction to Ultram for 12+ years. He tried to get help several times, but was unsuccessful. This horrible drug took ahold of his life and wouldn't let go! He tried to quit so many times....
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, here I am waiting for my test results.. just a couple of days more. Like everyone in my situation i'm going crazy spending lots of hours looking for information, forums, statistics, symptoms, etc. over the internet. For those obsessed with statistics, I just found an EXCELLENT report on HIV in Europe (sub-divided by country): http://www.euro.who.int/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/127656/e94500.
Avatar m tn According to the CDC in 2009 there were 10,098 white men who contracted HIV in the United States. They go on to say that of those new HIV+ men that 79% contracted the disease from male to male sexual contact. So that would leave 2,121 white men who contracted the virus through other means that M2M contact in 2009. Assuming that at least some of those remaining males contracted the disease via IV drug use....

Avatar f tn "Somebody" decided (and reported) that this topic on a new potent narcotic drug was meant for the "social" community of substance abusers which is TOTALLY NUTS to me!! If anybody needs to know about what new narcotics are out there waiting to be abused because they have no "abuse deterrent" in them.....drug addicts...recovering or not....surely do! If you read the link given by KBusymom in the original post I referenced...
Avatar m tn Addiction is categorzied by maladaptive behavior that is typically out of character for the person, including doing things that are harmful, without any regard for the consequences, in order to get the drug. Addiction includes mental cravings for the meds, where dependency is almost always just physical in nature. It's important for you to determine which category you would fit into, if indeed this is even a concern for you.
Avatar n tn It was given out like aspirin. It is very unfortunate that it became a schedule one drug, with the drug enforcement administration tracking down phjysicians who prescribe it. Valium does degrade situational awareness as well as intellectual acuity, and may interfere with driving safety, although that is more of a problem for the first time user. I have used it (prescribed by a physician) rarely, when under extreme stress, and then only for a day or two, and never became addicted.

10947 tn?1281404252 We hope to launch Tracker Statistics in the near future, which will analyze and calculate various statistics based on the data that you enter into your trackers. For example, we might show the average follicular and luteal phases for the ovulation tracker, or 7-day, 30-day and 90-day trends for the weight tracker. In addition, we might show a list of your most frequent symptoms.
Avatar f tn This was the recommendation in the British Journal Lancet Vol 1, 374 issue 9649 p511-513 15 August 2009. The media has produced some fear based upon five studies that I have read, and used some statistical manipulation that would have failed me in "statistics one" in the eighth grade. The experimental protocols were pretty crummy.
1195411 tn?1277328333 This is not a safe course of action considering your past history of addiction. The best thing to do is to level with your doctor. Once he aware of your past he should decide on another method of treatment. Keep us posted on what deveops. Best of lick with your pregnancy.
223152 tn?1346978371 Before starting tx number two in 2011 I had to have a Fibroscan in order to qualify for the free drugs from the drug company before they were licenced here. My fibroscan showed 6.7 which was equivalent to F0 - F1 and below the threshold required to qualify. They redid the fibroscan 5 minutes later and got a reading of 7.2 -equivalent to F2 which bought me the golden ticket. so I guess I count as F2. I have a new fibroscan being done in 6 months to see if things have changed now I am SVR.
523728 tn?1264621521 My oncologist is now recommending Topotecan for my next round, 3 weeks on 1 week off. My question is why is one drug suggested over another ie. why not Doxil or Gemzar? Also, are there any statistics showing the rate of success of Topo for second line therapy?
Avatar f tn AND (apparently) was in the hospital due to the drug use... Said that they are now on Methadone (cus the doctor wouldn't prescribe any more pain pills to them) but that they had used there DOC on top of the methadone.... Oh, my GOSH.... what a ficious cycle... Anyhoos, I just wanted to say that just seeing them REALLY OPENED MY EYES as to just how far DOWN you can get from the evils of pill addiction.... So with that said.. for all of you out there in pill land...
Avatar f tn They are combined together to prevent inter-venous abuse of this medication. In the US this Suboxone has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of drug addiction. However many individuals who start using it to treat their addiction, become addicted to Suboxone itself. If you want to find a doctor who prescribes Suboxone to treat opioid addiction all you have to do is go on Suboxone.com website to locate one.
Avatar f tn a gambling addiction is very different than a drug addiction. anyway, even those who are addicted to the same things as i am may very well be addicted to them for different reasons than my own. it may be easier or more difficult for them to overcome their addiction to the same things i'm addicted to. for that reason, it's not a good idea to assume other people can't understand our addiction. in fact, sometimes a sober mind...one that has never had an addiction of it's own...
