My daughter in law has been addicted to several "pain" medications for more than a year now; specifically Lortab, Oxycotin & Vicodin. It became so bad by April of this year that she was taking over 50 Lortab pills per day and did Cocaine as well which caused her to have a severe seizure, requiring hospitalization.

When I realized she has been abusing drugs all my life, they were just prescription drugs. She has several Dr.'s prescriber her Ambien then she took a couple swallows of NyQuil and then several Tylenol PM. One day I tried to stop her from driving but was unsuccessful. Avatar m tn Addiction is categorzied by maladaptive behavior that is typically out of character for the person, including doing things that are harmful, without any regard for the consequences, in order to get the drug. Addiction includes mental cravings for the meds, where dependency is almost always just physical in nature. It's important for you to determine which category you would fit into, if indeed this is even a concern for you.
Avatar n tn It was given out like aspirin. It is very unfortunate that it became a schedule one drug, with the drug enforcement administration tracking down phjysicians who prescribe it. Valium does degrade situational awareness as well as intellectual acuity, and may interfere with driving safety, although that is more of a problem for the first time user. I have used it (prescribed by a physician) rarely, when under extreme stress, and then only for a day or two, and never became addicted.
Avatar f tn While I know the FDA is cracking down on Internet sales of narcotics, I was just curious if many of you have purchased your drugs that route. It has been over a year since I bought meds online....tried to hide this from my hubby but he found out early on (How can you hide $600/month?) I can't believe how much money I have saved our family....wow...how selfish was I! This "drug money" could have covered the kids school tuition, car insurance and mortgage.....
Avatar f tn And do you say its a nonemergency or emergency? My son is on 2mg bars for anxiety. He takes soooo much that Good Friday this yr he was drug induced coma. They "Baker Acted" him. Psycologist met with him and they released him. He from Orlando being with his dad and step mom when he was in the hospital, to Chicago my brother picked him up on Easter. Stayed at my mother's his grandmother, she did well for 3 wks then he got his script filled and he was out of control.
Avatar f tn I know how you feel and I know the pain you are experiencing. My husband is a recovering crack addict. It took him loosing everything including his freedom before he finally decided that he wanted help. Today, he is in a long-term treatment center and is currently working with a great sponsor. I put my husband of our home in April of last year by going to family court and explaining to the judge what was happening at our home and requesting an order of protection.
Avatar n tn Tennessee families who are already being hit the hardest by policies such as the failure to expand Medicaid, poverty and a lack of available drug treatment facilities will be most deeply impacted by this bill. Mothers struggling with drug addiction in Shelby County, rural communities throughout Tennessee and poor mothers and their families will be the ones who suffer the effects of this dangerous legislation the most.
Avatar f tn I have a neighbor/friend who is addicted to Vicodin. I don't know what to do because I didn't realize until just recently this person is addicted. They went cold turkey cause they couldn't get any pills, but now they can and sd. they'll pick them up and won't take them. They want to quit but refuses to tell spouse. We both have families and I feel like my life has got sucked into this...I'm starting to realize that the problem is more serious than I thought.
Avatar f tn This is what happens to families and close freinds of an addict. They find them selves helping to further the addiction by avoiding conflict, helping with money, ignoring the lies about the addiction, making excuses for the addict's behavior, and by NOT loving this person enough to just let them fall and hit rock bottom on their own! This is what the addict needs to get a real-heads-up about their problem.

Avatar f tn Addiction is hereditary. It runs in family just like heart disease. Sounds like you're in a family with a big history of addiction. There's indeed families with addiction histories like yours. There's also families who have very little history of addiction. Plus, us addicts seem to attract other addicts like magnets.

Avatar f tn Having begun the drug testing in mid-July, the state Department of Children and Families is still tabulating the results. But at least 1,000 welfare applicants took the drug tests through mid-August, according to the department, which expects at least 1,500 applicants to take the tests monthly. So far, they say, about 2 percent of applicants are failing the test; another 2 percent are not completing the application process, for reasons unspecified. Cost of the tests averages about $30.
