Avatar n tn I am hoping to reach others who are suffering from, or have a family member/friend suffering from Ultram addiction: I lost my brother on July 9, 2008....he committed suicide. Why? ULTRAM!!!! Yes, my brother suffered with his addiction to Ultram for 12+ years. He tried to get help several times, but was unsuccessful. This horrible drug took ahold of his life and wouldn't let go! He tried to quit so many times....
Avatar f tn ALL the advise given by the committee came from their RESEARCH into abuse and addiction/death potential. What is safe before we approve this monster drug?? Not to repeat myself....but look at the statistics here: "Zohydro is about 10 times stronger than hydrocodone. It has no acetaminophen in it at all..it also does NOT have an "abuse deterrent" in it.
547368 tn?1440541785 s not the Chronic Pain Patients that encounter a high or even a moderate percentage of addiction. Indeed the statistics say that less than 4% of Chronic Pain Patients ever become addicts. Those stats are being hid today. Other stats are being used - ones that talk about overdose and death. Overdose and death, especially of our young is heart breaking and must be addressed. Responsible opiate prescribing is a must. I - and probably you agree with that.
Avatar f tn Last year, 750,000 methadone prescriptions were written for pain relief, but only 250,000 people were treated with the drug for addiction to heroin and other opioids, Reuter tells WebMD. Methadone can suppress drug withdrawal symptoms as an addiction treatment for 24 hours; the drug's ability to suppress pain lasts just four to eight hours. But methadone stays in the system as long as 59 hours.

Avatar m tn Addiction is categorzied by maladaptive behavior that is typically out of character for the person, including doing things that are harmful, without any regard for the consequences, in order to get the drug. Addiction includes mental cravings for the meds, where dependency is almost always just physical in nature. It's important for you to determine which category you would fit into, if indeed this is even a concern for you.
Avatar n tn It was given out like aspirin. It is very unfortunate that it became a schedule one drug, with the drug enforcement administration tracking down phjysicians who prescribe it. Valium does degrade situational awareness as well as intellectual acuity, and may interfere with driving safety, although that is more of a problem for the first time user. I have used it (prescribed by a physician) rarely, when under extreme stress, and then only for a day or two, and never became addicted.
Avatar m tn Finally, both Neal et al and Amin et al highlight the importance of comorbid conditions prevalent in patients with HCV infection, such as drug addiction and alcohol abuse. Management of these patients is a challenging problem for clinicians and a multidisciplinary approach is necessary to address not only their liver disease but also co-existent psychosocial conditions, including depression and chemical addiction.

Avatar f tn IBKleen's advice is spot on honey. Being a heroin addict is going to lead to 1 of 2 places: jail or death. I'm going to guess that most if not all of the folks you hang out with are also drug users or drinkers. You're gonna have to change that. It's a tough one to swallow, but truthfully, if you really want a sober, happy life, then EVERYTHING has to change. That means not associating with anyone who does drugs---even if it means losing your best friend(s).
Avatar f tn Now, this Cory Haim tragedy. I know it is not yet known how he died, but sadly, it is already being attributed to drug use. I feel for his family. I was watching Celebrity Rehand the other day, and there was a mom on there, and she said when you loose your addict, it is over. It is final. We should thank God every day we are not dead. I know many of us have tempted fate.
