The way I understand it, Drug Addiction is a "disability" and therefor treatment for it cannot be denied as a preexisting condition. When my son contacted the Insurance Company and asked them about it, they told him that his company had this one year exemption... I don't get it at all but I am not good at reading these laws or interpreting them and we certainly can't afford a lawyer- not with all his treatment expenses.

Addiction is categorzied by maladaptive behavior that is typically out of character for the person, including doing things that are harmful, without any regard for the consequences, in order to get the drug. Addiction includes mental cravings for the meds, where dependency is almost always just physical in nature. It was given out like aspirin. It is very unfortunate that it became a schedule one drug, with the drug enforcement administration tracking down phjysicians who prescribe it. I have used it (prescribed by a physician) rarely, when under extreme stress, and then only for a day or two, and never became addicted.

Hi Sam, clonazepam is generic for Klonopin and its a benzodiazepine drug, they are usually prescribed for anxiety and as an anti-convulsive. I have been on these kinds of drugs now for 15 years and they do help me with muscle spasms and pain. Be careful though with these, they do tend to sedate people and cause in some people addiction. I get really thirsty, and hungry with my med. Don't drive with them until you know how you are going to react to it.

Has anyone here ever used ADA (American Disabilities Act ) to help them in getting their employer to "make reasonable accommodations" for them to do their job? Does the ADA recognize chiari malformation as a disability? I did not see it as such. Not sure how to go about using ADA. I am close to losing my job because of a few over/shortages (not high amounts).

Hi Ozworks, Mollyrae and Kelly are both correct. When you take an opiate over a long period of time you risk opiate tolerance. Meaning you require more and more of the medication to be as effective as the initial dose you were prescribed. I think you meant Oxycodone APAP instead of ADA. I haven't heard of ADA but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Correct me if I am wrong. Acetaminophen's (apap) daily limit is 4,000mg.

I have to say this, Dr's are too quick to dismiss people who have had prior drug addictions but they shouldn't do that at all. What is in the past is in the past.

My brother is Anastheatist and he has Fortwin drug addiction from last 4-5 yrs, we have tried psychologist but it was not helpfull as again he starts the same, as he is doctor and anesthetist it is difficult to kept this drug away from him, Can I know what we can do ? I have been on methadone now for about 1 and a half years......for much of this time i was using drugs (Synthetic Heroin) as well.....yes i know that that isnt good...but due to various reasons it was very hard to completely quit.......(FYI I was on the pills alone for only about 7 months when I decided for financial reasons that I had to try to quit or a least cut back a lot)........ Now that two of my closest drug friends are gone.....

t make me drowsy, they give me a false sense of energy, some have nausea and vomiting, possibility of addiction........constipation, blurry vision, possibility of addiction.....oh and did i mention possiblity of addiction?

I am on day 6 and just confessed to my mom, my 5 year addiction to vicodin and to my surprise she was excited I quite and offered support and help. I know I'm lucky but I had been tricking myself thinking no one knew I was addicted. People can surprise you.
