415684 tn?1257329318 Seems like a lot to me for one drug out of many. The author also talks about the money drug companies spent on explaining drugs to doctors. These are sales calls pure and simple. And as for the authors comments about "ask your doctor" ads, these ads are responsible for people asking for drugs which may or may not benefit them more than other unadvertised drugs. Read with caution.
Avatar m tn If my wife had given me free room and board, let me be as mean to her as I wanted, and there were no consequences to my drug abuse, I would be dead today. You can ask around here, I am not a bad person or of low moral character, I am an addict. When people say you are enabling your man, it means you are part of his problem. He may blame you, and he may be partially right, because he wouldn't be able to afford as many drugs or have good enough health to get as high as he does without you.
Avatar f tn I want to know how to help drug abusers through a website? for example SO has addicted morphine after asurgery and is ashamed to go to a dr what to do ?
Avatar f tn Just heard on the news yesterday that for the first time in years prescription Narc use on the downslide. It was stated that many doctors are starting to prescribe and refill as much as they used to. Maybe all this cr@p with Anna Nicole Smith is the catalyst ......waking doc's up. Scary part is that Smith's boyfriend is no being charged for enabling. I find that a little scary.
230262 tn?1316645934 they had a doctor on they were interviewing. and they also said that prescription drug abuse is now the highest number of addicts today. More than all other drugs put together!! Probably not a newsflash to most of here though is it? lol.
1253197 tn?1331209110 Well I found out some interesting, exciting news today about the oral drug trial that I am on. To date the drug has just had a number and it was called Actellion 128800 and it has now been given a name PONESIMOD. The results of the first stage trial that I have been on have been very positive and have now been published and if anyone is interested they can search for this on the web and there are lots of articles in Pharma Times or on the Actellion web site (this is the Pharmaceutical Company).

464044 tn?1343702043 2 million Americans (age 12 or older) reported using prescription opioids non-medically in the past month (SAMHSA, 2007). Opioid abuse is so widespread that it accounts for 75% of all prescription drug abuse in the U.S. (Colliver, Kroutil, Dai, & Gfroerer, 2006). In fact, opioid analgesics reportedly cause more deaths nationwide than either heroin or cocaine (Paulozzi, Budnitz, & Xi, 2006). Birnbaum et al. (2006) estimate that the abuse of prescription opioids costs the U.S. $9.
869814 tn?1239720815 I just came off my pain meds and I met a doctor at the hospital I was at that said suboxone is great for substance abuse users. If you are on pain meds on a regular basis. Suboxone might not be the answer. I am writing you with anxiety and the shakes right now...but am very happy I didi not go on the Suboxone!!! It is merely another drug you need to "come off of" It basically stimulates the nuero transmitters into becoming additcted to another drug.
627818 tn?1271777026 I don't know how many of you get the National MS Society newsletter online but yesterday's version had some interesting articles in it. There is some good research and clinical trials going on, so I thought that was encouraging! I'm sure you can go to the NMSS website - it is one those org ending sites, and sign up if you don't already receive it.
