Avatar f tn This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. Doxycycline, like other tetracycline-class antibiotics, can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman.
Avatar m tn My question is, would the increase in acid reflux and stomach pain be a likely side effect of the doxycycline. I know doxycycline can cause acid reflux or stomach pain right after you take it, but could it cause it many hours later? What about the itchy bumps on my arm? I know doxycycline can make your skin sensitive to light, so might that be a skin reaction caused by it?

Avatar f tn You definitely need to get some high quality moisturizer and start lathering your body with it. Also note – hot water dries out the skin. If possible, you might feel better if you skipped a daily shower when possible. The nausea stinks big time. The Pegasys folks are pretty clear that this particular side effect doesn't last and in my case it didn't. After about a month it went away. Try to eat small, frequent meals. Anything you like. Cold food is better than hot food.
Avatar n tn Once you take a few doses of a medication and do not develop any side effects like rashes, gastric upset etc commonly associated with the medicine, chances are that you are unlikely to develop other associated side effects. So take this full course or at least for 3 days and watch for any side effects. If there are none, chances are high that you will not have any problems with sun exposure and tanning booths. However one can never really predict these things.
Avatar n tn In fact, there would be no harm in discussing the Doxycycline reatment and your concerns about side effects with your vet anyway, and it would be perfectly in order to call the vet's office, ask if there is a time during the day you can speak to your vet when he is not busy. No doubt he will call you back when he has a moment to discuss the treatment with you.
Avatar n tn I am a fellow member on this board and have traveled in Africa doing wildlife studies, so I thought I'd chime in - there is currently no malaria vaccine, so you must be talking about malaria prophylaxis. One of the drugs used is called mefloquine, also called Larium. It is pretty effective but does cause some psychiatric side effects in people. There's another, newer drug called Malarone, which is a combination of atovaquone and proguanil.
