Avatar m tn Hello, Difficulty urinating in males can be due to urinary retention which can be due to enlarged prostate due to benign prostatic hypertrophy (often called BPH) or infection of the prostate( prostatitis), any blockage in the flow of urine like any scar tissue, injury (as in a car wreck or bad fall), blood clots, infection, tumors in the pelvic region, and stones, infection or due to disruption of the delicate and complex system of nerves that connects the urinary tract with the brain and the ne
Avatar m tn is there a cure like cipro, doxycycline for prostatitis? which prostate test should I have done?
Avatar n tn My dr wanted me to take doxycycline due to the prostate problem, but I am worry if doxycycline can impact sperm and fertility. Any experience and information is very appreciated.
Avatar m tn Given my long history with chlamydia (got it in 2008, took lne week doxy and symptoms went away, got it again 2 months ago when I also got conjunctivitis and did 3 weeks total doxy, 2 weeks tetracycline ointmentnand appeared fully cured), it seems to me to be a good idea to push for a longer course of doxycycline, perhaps 4 weeks total, and 1 azithromycin antibiotics with metronidazole just to be safe to cover other ngus.
Avatar m tn isn't doxycycline a better drug for prostatitis and UTIs? I've tried cipro for 3 days then 7 days but it didn't cure the shooting pain and discomfort in my pelvis.
Avatar n tn I am a 54 year old male in excellent health with one past prostate infection that was treated with Septra two years ago. I had what I thought were similar symptoms, burning itching and minor pain that came and went with no apparent pattern, 6 weeks ago and went to family doctor who treated with septra for 3 weeks. No improvment so went to urologist, normal prostate normal urine, who treated with septra for one week when I noticed two or three small white spots just inside the opening of penis.
Avatar n tn If its still high this sidelines us and he has to see a urologist. He has absolutely no symptoms of anything as far as infection or prostate problems. Can't they just give him antibiotics? High WBC count means infection I assume. We have waited so long to do this and although we are concerned that he is healthy, of course, we are both wondering why he just doesn't take cipro or doxycycline and be done with it!
Avatar m tn Saw the urologist today. He checked my testicles and bladder as well as prostate. He believes it is prostatitis. Prescribed 6 weeks of Doxycycline. He also mentioned my urine stream is weaker than average which may have brought this all on. Just something to keep an eye on I guess.
Avatar f tn I am very worried now that I may have a prostate infection or epididymitis caused by bacteria that are found in the anus. What should I now do from here. Have not had prostate checked.
Avatar m tn Some days they are gone and other days they come back. What kind of doctor should I go to for a prostate exam/infection? Is it a urologist? Or can I go to another urgent care center for that because I don't have insurance? Do they check for that kind of thing? Could this also be related to my herniated L5-S1 disc? The timing of this coinciding with the unprotected encounter makes me doubt that, but just wondering. Thank you again!
Avatar m tn My wife is on Doxycycline 2x day. If I have Chlamydia or a UTI infection, or prostate for that matter, would the Doxy sucessfully block/treat it? I had a prescription for bactrim and my wife (MD) suggested that I start it as I indicated I felt like I was getting another prostate infection. (I had only taken one pill evening b4 tests at clinic). If I do not have an std, I am incredibly fortunate and lucky and do not intend to tell her.
Avatar n tn just updateing so far iam near 85% better after 24hrs on doxycycline back to Dr, tomorrow for urine test result, it will be bad ofcouse and i will have enough urine sample done for sure my guess is i have bladder infection cause by the prostate pressing on the bladder
Avatar n tn I then went to see an Urologist who just thought I must have an std and prescribed me Doxycycline for 14 days. As well as swabs from inside the penis. The only thing that gives any relief is Phenazo, and that has stopped being affective. Extremely uncomfortable. Burning deep within the urinary tract, through to the tip of my penis. There is no discharge, blood, cloudy urine, etc. Everything seems normal, other then the burning in the tract, which is worse after urinating...
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and they gave me doxycycline for one week but i still have burning then i change the doctor and another doctor gave me same medicine doxycycline and coprofloxin for five days and do my std test in the test there is every thing all right. if i have nothing then why should i have burning in my penis. my question is if i have no std infection and also i take the medicine of antibiotic then why i should i have burning in my penis.
Avatar m tn Prostate infections are not usually picked up on urinalysis. Prostate fluid analysis can reveal an infection or inflammation of the prostate but is usually preceded by a digital rectal examination of the prostate. If an organism is detected, ensure that culture sensitivity is done so as to identify the antibiotic it is sensitive to. If diagnosed with prostatitis you will need to be on antibiotics for 15-21 days and maybe even longer.
Avatar m tn I still felt a bit of lingering so I saw another clinic, who prescribed me over the course of the next few weeks, metronizadole 2g, oflaxicin 400 mg for 2 weeks twice a day (said my prostate was a bit inflamed), suprax for gonnorhea (even though I only had a positive chlamydia test), as well as erthromycin (sp?) for a week. I've been medicated to my wits end. It's been 6 weeks and I have tested Negative for all std's and uti stuff 2 weeks ago.
Avatar m tn A CYSTOSCOPY WAS ORDERED ON 9/26/13. THIS SHOWED A NARROW URETHRA AND INFECTION. PLACED ON DOXYCYCLINE TWICE A DAY FOR 30 DAYS. THIS WAS FOLLOWED ON 10/22/13 WITH URINALYSIS AND FOLLOW-UP ON 10/29/13. URINALSIS SHOWED CLEAR BUT KEPT ON DOXYCYCLINE ONCE A DAY FOR ITU PREVENTION.
Avatar n tn Handsfield, Just to update you, as you know i was diagnosed with Nonchlamydial NGU and was prescribed with Azithromycin (single dose) and then Doxycycline (one week) after the azithromycin failed. Well, my treatment is now over for the Doxycycline and i still have symptoms of NGU which include scant perfectly clear discharge and perhaps a slight discomfort when urinating.
Avatar n tn Has the doctor done a prostate exam? the treatment for prostatitis is different from the treatment for urethritis. This leads me to my question. As this has gone on, have you continued to be sexually active and, if so, has your partner been treated. If not, re-infection may be part of the problem. Now for your questions: Duration of treatment. If the symptoms improve again, I would use a prolonged course of antibiotics - three weeks rather than 7 days.
Avatar m tn I've been having some urination issues, some of the symptoms I've had in the past, but never saw a doctor about. At this point I wish I would have started investigating this sooner, but I didn't have health insurance previously, and the symptoms were never excruciating. I've had to strain to urinate in the past, never associated with any other major symptoms that would make me assume an infection was present.. no fever, chills, discharge.
Avatar m tn I would anitcipate the your prostate pain should respond to the doxycycline unless is is an unrelated problem which just had the bad timing to show up at about the same time as your chlamydial infection. As I said earlier, I cannot predict where things will go from here. You need to follow-up with the same urologist you saw recently so he can assess any changes which have occurred as well as next steps, should they be needed.
Avatar m tn 24, I went back to GP on December 26 and informed him of her HSV status and my symptoms. Digital rectal exam was performed, nothing abnormal. Given doxycycline for 10 days 100mg with one dose of Suprax 400mg. The dysuria is resolved but the almost constant urge to urinate and the feeling of never emptying my bladder persists and is affecting my ability to sleep and stay asleep. Back to GP on Jan. 9. Prescribed doxycycline 100mg once daily for 30 days and Vesicare 5mg once daily 30 days.
Avatar m tn None of your symptoms suggest any STD, especially since your contact was oral. Your treatment would cover a prostate infection. For your information none of the antibiotics you have taken are recommended treatment for gonorrhea. Take care.
