Avatar n tn I was recently diagonosed with periodontal disease in the back half of my lower jaw. I have an upcoming appointment with a periodontist scheduled. I recently became ill and went to the doctor. I was diagnosed with strep throat via a throat culture. Could the bacterial from the periontal disease contribute to the strep throat, or are these likely two separate issues?
Avatar n tn The common cause of halitosis is periodontal disease and cavity. Periodontal disease can be cured. However, meticulous mainteinace program is extremely important to prevent recurrence of periodontal disease.
Avatar n tn Is there any relationship between periodontal disease and sleep apnea? My father is suffering from some periodontal disease and has swollen and loose gums and he is using dental implants to get rid of it. He has a snoring problem and now showing some symptoms of sleep apnea as well. Are they related to periodontal diseases? We are planning to get an anti snoring device ( http://www.parkerhilldental.com/our-services/anti-snoring-appliances/ ) to control the snoring issue. Is it really effective?
Avatar f tn Due to extension bone loss from periodontal disease it is recommended that #14 be extracted. I want to have an implant placed when possible. I was told that I need to have ridge augmentation done before a sinus lift is possible. Why can't bone grafting, etc. and a sinus life be done when the tooth is extracted?

Avatar m tn Hello three weeks ago i preformed oral sex on a guy, he did not ejaculate in my mouth but there was pre cum. I suffer from periodontal disease and now i'm worried that i may have contracted HIV from this experience. i was wondering if i put myself at risk for HIV and if so, what should i do?
Avatar m tn There is a statistical link between periodontal disease (gum infections) and clogged-up coronary arteries. It adds up to about a twofold risk for heart disease. You can google something like" coronary artery disease and periodontal disease" to read the recent studies, if you're interested. No one knows yet exactly what is going on, or whether it's really cause and effect.
Avatar n tn The rationale of periodontal therapy is complete debridement of root surface, without healthy root surface, cure of periodontal disease is almost impossible. So far, mechanical debridement of root surface is time-proven, evidence-based therapeutical modality. However, perioprotect may reduce the bacterial load on the root surface, and may yield some therapeutic effect. I do'nt think complete cure of periodontal disease is achievable through perioprotect.
Avatar f tn I have mod-advanced periodontal disease and developed a PA abscess and cyst in 7 months which caused severe pain and swelling that required extraction. How did it come about? Is it from dental decay combined with periodontal disease? It was tooth 26 with over 7 mm gum pocket and 50% mobility.. Just wondering if I could have saved it earlier with maybe a root canal? Hope to hear from some expert.
Avatar m tn just to add some more information I am being treated right now for the periodontal disease and the time of the incident I did not have any visible bleeding of the gums but I do have deep pockets (gaps in the gums) and deep gum recession for one of my tooth in the lower jaw. What are my risk of HIV after this incident?
Avatar n tn Cause of periodontal disease = Plaque, Calculus (tartar) and anything else that irritates the gums. Treatment = Remove the irritating factors.
Avatar m tn I would say as a dental hygienist at least 90% of my patient have some for of gingivitis or periodontal disease. Gingivitis is classified as any inflammation of the gingiva (gums) redness, bleeding, swollen margins, with little or no bone loss. Gingivitis can be reversed with proper home care and yes by home care I mean flossing. I can not begin to stress enough how important flossing is and how rarely it is done by patients.
Avatar n tn I also have suffered with chrones disease for the last 23years and was wondering if this could be a factor to gum disease. My teeth are in good condition and I only have 3 fillings. I am 39 years of age. Please could you advise.
Avatar n tn It is too late for me, because I had a rare form of juvenile periodontal disease that had taken hold by the time I decided to do something about it. I did everything right from that point on, but about 10 years too late. I now have 15 of my own teeth left. I would have NO teeth left if I had not had the periodontal surgery.
Avatar m tn I am a disabled 45 year old woman with diabetes, COPD, MVP, PCOS, and kidney disease. I only have Medicare and NO dental insurance. I have watched my teeth and gums go from bad to worse. No mater what I've done to care for them at home, I now have periodontal disease. I've not had it diagnosed but it is obvious. I have no way to go to a dentist. Is there anything I can do at home?
Avatar f tn At this stage, gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) becomes periodontal disease (disease of the bone and supporting structures). Periodontal Disease is a silent disease and can slowly erode the bone and supporting structures of the mouth without any noticeable signs to the patient. If you wait too long, the teeth will actually become loose and by then, it is usually too late to reverse the process. You should schedule a dental appointment soon.
Avatar f tn Hi am at wee 51 of treatment and just went to the dentist and will have to go to a parodontale evaluation i have gum disease, does treatment make gum disease worst? thanks for your answers, something else to take care of.
Avatar f tn you could have something called periodontal disease. or gingavitis. periodontal disease is serious and if that is the case you need to see a dentist right away. periodontal deisease is an infecrion of the periodontium. there are three things keeping your teeth in your mouth you gingiva (gums), your bone, and the periodontium. once you have perio disease you gums start to reciede and if it gets bad enough you teeth can fall out and you can get infections as well.
Avatar m tn I know I'm in time to get tested but I'm really scared to do so. Please if someone can tell me from your experience or from what you have learned.
1021164 tn?1251546737 Hi, it sounds like your cousin has some sought of gum disease, (periodontal disease) i had the same thing and one of the first symptoms was BAD breath. I found out that i had it when i went to the dentist to fill in a cavity. I hope i helped.
Avatar n tn ve lost bone structure around that tooth usually due to periodontal disease. The bone loss causes the roots to be exposed. The area where the roots separate is the furcation. A furcation exposed can lead to more serious periodontal problems. The best course of action is diligent home care and keeping your regularly scheduled dental/periodontal appointments.
Avatar m tn The most common antiobiotic given for periodontal disease is doxycycline. I have taken a boat load of the stuff and it has never bothered my heart. Please don't worry about this and go get your dental work done.
Avatar m tn I didnt think anything of it because of the lack of knowledge of periodontal disease. I saw a periodontist in 2014 when it became more noticeable to me,and completed a deep cleaning in July 2014; I was told I have "gingivitis and minor bone loss." Currently, my one gum above one tooth still slightly bleeds and all my teeth are still visibly slowly receding overtime.
Avatar m tn also have your friend ask the dentist for a prescription for a mouth wash for his periodontal disease. I believe it is called periodex but dont quote me on that. unless those teeth are beyond repair your dentist should be able to save them just fine. alot of doctors wont even remove teeth if they have an infection at the root.
