Avatar m tn I was wondering if someone can help me. I am 25 years old and have had dry red eyes since I was very young. I recenlty went to an eye doctor and he told me that I have bacteria living in my oil glands in my eyes and that it is feeding off the oil my eyes are supposed to produce. He said that the oil that ends up covering my eyes is just irritating them. He put me on this medication called doxycycline hyclate 100mg.
Avatar n tn Not all cases respond though and oral doxycycline and oral flax and fish oil are often very helpful. I also like to use commercial lid scrubs like ocusoft original to start with and sometimes sterilid cream works great. There is one other thing - demodex follicularis - which are little mites in the eyelash follicles. They can cause terrible blepharitis in some people and the doctor needs to look for that.
Avatar n tn I have been suffering with dry eye since May 2008. The red rings around both eyes, and the upsidedown U on both lids appeared then, and were treated with anti histamine drops/ointment. Blepharitis also, so I have been doing lid scrubs since. Red rings are gone but dry eye took their place. I have been using Theratears day and night, put drops in about every 15 minutes, all day. I do not wake up with crusty or gooey eyes. I have been to 3 opthalmologists, dry eye is diagnosed.
177275 tn?1511755244 I do not receive any money from any drug company for anything. My wife and I have moderately severe dry eyes. I have aqueous deficiency, classic ‘dry eyesand my wife ‘lipid deficiency’. When we did not respond to first and second level treatment we went on Restasis. After 3-4 months we saw some improvement and after 6 months were entirely comfortable with only occasional use of artificial tears. Both of us have been on Restasis over 5 years.
Avatar n tn I have blepharitis and really dry eyes from being on roaccutane 5 months ag. Being outside on a windy day or in air conditioning is unbearable and eyes get extremely bloodshot. Eye drops (have tried many different ones, Optive seems to be the most effective but) don't seem to help much besides when I wake up with extremely dry eyes sometimes..
493068 tn?1224765315 He put me back on the erthromycin ointment and the Doxycycline and he said I will have to take Doxycycline the rest of my life. Is all the pain from the rosacea or could the glaucoma cause some too. It has been terrible to handle. I am on Travatan Z and doing eye scrubs 3x/day. I also had the tear duct plugs again. I did not know they had fallen out. Should I go to another doctor for the surgery. Thanks so much!
Avatar m tn I need a new prescription in glasses for my left eye as it is off a little and I have a second lens forming after the surgery. Could these problems cause my eyes to ache or is it just the dry eyes as both eyes ache and it is hard to sleep.
Avatar m tn I have been taking fish oil supplements and then switched to flaxseed oil supplements to help my dry eyes after having iol surgery and later, lasik touchup on one of my eyes....Now i found that both were VERY effective in giving me a nice tear layer and worked great...but the problem for me is it seems i have either a hypersensitivity in taking either one and develop side effects after a while where i seem to get headaches and an uncomfortable feeling in my throat...
Avatar f tn I've been seeing my opthamologist a few times this month. About 3 months ago I was really sick and by the end of the virus I found a bump that feels bumpy in both eyes, above the eye bone but beneath the eyelid not visible to see but you can see they're there by touch. The left eye bump moves what feels to be 'behind' the eye. The right one hangs out closer to the outer corner. My opthamologist thinks it's an allergy. He put me on neomycin ointment 3x a day.
Avatar f tn Hi, for the past two months I’ve felt generalized achiness, symmetrical muscle pains in my arms, joint pain on and off in my hands, back and knees, very dry eyes, cold hands and splotchy redness in my hands with burning sensation, and depression My CBC was normal, tests for RA and lupus was normal, EBV was negative. She did a western blot as the only test for Lyme and my IgG p41 and IgM p23 were the only positive bands. What do you all think?
Avatar m tn This is conjunctival injection. It may be due to many conditions such as dry eyes, eyelid infection, etc. Dr. O.

Avatar n tn I have blepheritis and dry eye and have started a course of this. I have tried many other things and I wonder if this has helped anyone or if the doc could explain how it helps. I am assuming it clears the bacteria with the bleph but can take 6 weeks. Also I have been on many eye meds for this condition and was wondering if any like azasite etc could cause increase in floaters. I have had them dialated 5 times and there is no tear or detatchment.
Avatar m tn Sometimes a brief course of steroid drops and gentle cleaning of the lid margins and aggressive treatment of dry eyes are in order. For some cases commercial lid cleaners like sterilid can help as well as oral doxycycline for select cases as well a oral flax and fish oil. Each case requires a custom approach and I don't know what you need so you need to stay in close touch with your ophthalmolgist. Plugs may or may not help depending on the degree of lid margin disease.
Avatar f tn I did stop her taking the Doxycycline last night but today she still has some chest tightness and her eyes are still quite swollen and puffy. She has only missed one dose so far, so I am waiting. She did also have flu-like symptoms as well. I am consulting her dermatologist today to get a new antibiotic but I am not sure which way to go. It appears that she is allergic to quite a few antibiotics. Again, Thank You very much.
Avatar f tn 9 months ago, I had a bit of trouble with multiple styes forming on the lids of both my eyes - there were red, swollen, tender bumps (total four) on my lid margins for months (and even now, three of them are still there, but just smaller but still red). I've seen many doctors who tried a plethora of drugs: included are tobramycin eye ointment, moxifloxacin eye drops, and cephalexin.
Avatar f tn i did see a rheumatologist...all my bloodwork is normal for autoimmune diseases at this time, but clearly a lot of people don't test positive for Sjogrens at the beginning or at all. he isn't sure if i have sjogren's and wants to monitor me. i understand these things are hard to diagnose. i just worry because og my aches and pains, dry eyes, and dry mouth. yet, i'm a 30 yr old guy and don't fit the mod of who develops Sjogrens...
Avatar m tn Some of these are low blink rate, dry eyes and sight behavior. Dry eye is a chronic condition, however you can ask your eye doctor for a prescription like increasing tear production, and treating the inflammation of the eyelids. You can also try some alternatives to treat dry eyes by blinking regularly when staring at a computer screen or reading, wear sunglasses when you go outdoors, increase the level of humidity and ask for nutritional supplements for dry eye condition from your doctor.
Avatar n tn I even changed contacts per my eye dr. for dry eyes and that helped for a while, and now I have dry eyes again, with allergies in eyes, burning and itching pollen I know. But question (big One) does anyone have a cure or anyone have a clue of an idea that has hope them with dry eyes, and it is something that you can use in your eyes with your contacts still in. thanks for any info.
Avatar f tn Yes that is a common symptom. Use the search feature and archives and read the many helpful posts about dry eyes. Go to Dr. Hagan's home page and read the Journal Posting on treatment of dry eyes. As I have said many time both my wife and I have dry eyes and have been on Restasis for several years with excellent results. WIth MGD it's important to keep the eye lids free of oil and debris (*called scruff). Try Ocusoft Plus PLATINUM it's over the counter.
Avatar n tn I have never had dry eyes before and the last two days I have had blurry vision and really dry itchy eyes. Could thyroid be causing this? I know it can cause some sort of eye disease, but I really don't know much about it. Thanks in advance!
Avatar m tn See an Eye MD ophthalmologist as some of your complaints are not due to dry eyes. 4. Also use the search feature and archives to read about dry eyes and an extra copy of the dry \eye article can be found on Dr.
Avatar m tn If you are menopausal or post-menopausal be sure you and your gynecologist maintain optimal hormonal balance. (Many women with dry eyes have dry mouth and dry vaginal canal). If you have joint pain have that evaluated to be sure you don't have Sjorgren's syndrome. Many medications eg antihistamines can make dry eye worse. You might review your medications with your ophthalmologist.
Avatar f tn I was blaming my fibromyalgia for my eyes hurting. I went to eye doctor and he informed me that my "eyes are a mess". He said my eyes were not producing tears and the surface of my eyes have all kinds of micro-abrasions. Has anyone out there had this problem?
Avatar m tn 1. The ghost image will only go away if it is due to dry eyes. If it is dry eyes it should go away after blinking or instilling artificial tears. If it doesn't it may be due to something else: needing glasses, incorrect glasses RX, poorly fitting contact lens, corneal disease other than dry eyes, cataracts or macular disease. No way I can tell you wish of these you have. 2. Find the best artificial tears for your eyes by trial and error and recording their effect.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to find something to help my dry eyes. My Opthimal rubs a paper across my eyes which turns green. Her recommended medicine is Baush & Loom Soomth EP eye drops. Everytime I use them the next day the inside of my eyelids feel gritty like sandpaper. It is very uncomfortable. Retasis does the same thing. The Dr. tells me my dryness is between 3 and 4. Ocassionally my left eye swells and is painful. On thoses days I want to patch my eye to keep the light out.
Avatar m tn I have had Lasik 5 days ago. My eyes are so dry and scratchy that it is driving me crazy! The dryness decreases my ability to see. I have been putting drops into my eyes constantly, but it does not seem to help. Any suggestions?
716527 tn?1229953627 i am using contact lenses and since i am studying in college i am wearing it for 12 hours a day.... and my eyes are getting dried sooner so please give me any suggestions to overcome this problem?
