Common Questions and Answers about Dog yeast infection treatment ear

yeast-infection

Avatar m tn My dog has a mild yeast infection in her left ear but she may have a tear in her eadrdrum. The vet gave us TrizEDTA but due to her losing her hearing from Tri-Otic, we didn't want to use any more ear medication that can cause hearing loss. I've recently started making her home cooked meals, wipe her down with apple cider vinegar+water, and flushing her ears out every other day plus cleaning the outer part of her ears on days I don't flush.
423279 tn?1203562853 He has always had bad ears with chronic yeast infectons. However for the past month he has had this horrible odor( not yeast) coming from his ear. It is only 1 ear & it obviously hurts because if I try to clean his ear he flexes up & doesn't want me to touch it. the drainage or wax has turned dark brown instead of the usual yellowish color. I would have allready taken him to the vet but he doesn't do well with vets due to pevious bad experiences.
5769293 tn?1373926011 The yeast infection could be due to an allergy. My dogs allergic to yeast and gets the infection. Does it have a foul odor? I would seek vet advice..
Avatar n tn Foul odors in pet's ears are either yeast or bacterial infection or a combination of both. Much of the time ear infections are secondary to environmental or food allergies, or swimming. It would be best to have his ears checked by a vet who can perform a cytology, and/or a culture and sensitivity on the ear discharge.
Avatar n tn Both bacterial and yeast (fungus) can cause ear infections. The bacteria could be the same as Staph is everywhere and a common contaminant of skin inflammation secondary to another cause. Hot Spots are called Pyo-Traumatic Dermatitis.
Avatar f tn Taysien is a shelter dog he stayed with another family and the dog that they owned had an ear issue they said was a yeast infection of the ear? Their vet gave them pills for the dog to take an it cleared up. Our dog got this ear issue while there and we went to our vet and told them what had happened to their dog. They told us that it required steroids and put him on them this made him aggressive. We were told to discontinue the steroids.
Avatar f tn Wow- She sounds miserable! Ear problems are Very common in dogs.....Normally, it's food related....However, you must rule out an ear infection, Mites Or Yeast, first & get treatment for that & then move on. Ear mites are distinct! They look like coffee grounds.....It's actually not the mites, but the debris they leave behind.. Any dog producing this kind of trauma to the ear needs to be seen by her Vet.
Avatar n tn It sounds like a yeast infection. Your dog will need antibiotics and a cleaning solution. It will NOT go away without the antibiotic, so please take him to the vet ASAP!
Avatar f tn If the yeast infection is also just inside the outer part of her ear, then bathe the inside of her ears with a cotton wool pad and some of the solution. This doesn't want to be too wet. You don't want too much liquid going down into her ear canal. I'd do that twice or three times a day. A good way to tell if it's a yeast infection is -are her ears smelly and smell like old socks or cheese?
Avatar f tn Sounds like ear mites. Very common, and easy enough to get rid of. If not mites, it could be a yeast infection. Is there a sour smell coming from the ear? Is it both ears or just one? Ear mites don't look like little bugs. They actually look like a ton of brown/black ear wax. Go to 1800 pet meds and look under ear medications. Look for tresaderm. This will treat the mites. If it does have a foul smell to it, there is medication available on that site as well.
209987 tn?1451935465 Our newly acquired "Hero" is going through yet another round of yeast infection in her ears. Before my dad passed away, I remember him saying something about how Sheba was constantly going through this. He had tried many things over the years...took her to the vet who would rinse her ears and then apply some sort of cream inside them. Dad said that he would dish out about $80 or more each visit, and the relief for her would not last long.
370181 tn?1595629445 t have given me medication for yeast infection, right? The Gentizol says nothing about mites, only yeast infections. I wish Axel wouldn't freak out so bad so I could get a swab of the gunk in his ears. I don't know if he just doesn't like his ears being messed with or if he's in really bad pain. I walked up behind him last night and he jumped a foot in the air. He is only about 7 years old, but he didn't hear me. I wanted to cry.........
Avatar f tn The discharge/wax does not have an order to it at all, so I am not sure if she has an ear infection or if she may have ruptured her ear drum. It is a Saturday night, so the Vet will not be open until Monday when I can call and I just wanted to make sure that if in fact it is a ruptured ear drum that she will be okay until I get a hold of her vet?
Avatar m tn Hi. I completely agree with everything skydnsr has said. Ear infections in dogs is very common, and almost always due to either mites or yeast infection and/or allergies of many kinds. The inner ears of a dog are fragile and susceptible to infection due to the close surface blood vessels. But the real question is, what is it that your dog has become allergic to (unless the reaction/inflammation has come from another dog or something else like due to diet).
Avatar n tn One part red vinegar, one part alcohol, one part water, one part hydrogen peroxide. Take a cotton ball and saturate it and clean the outer part of the ear and squeeze a little bit into the ear canal. Do this daily until it is gone. My vet told me this will not hurt the dog, works everytime. You can also give your pet a teaspoon of yogurt daily and this helps prevent them.
Avatar f tn Have you had the yeast cultured to see what kind it is? There is an ear medication called Otomax that is used to cure yeast infections in the ear and it is very effective against the Malassezia pachydermatis yeast organism. Why not talk to your vet about using Otomax if you have not yet tried it?
612551 tn?1450022175 I forgot to add in the above long reply (got lost in all the words) I also use an over the counter ear yeast treatment which is high priced but less than prescription Otomax The OTC med is called ZYMOX any opinion on this medication? This med had very high positive reviews on Amazon.
1429136 tn?1287209602 Oral antibiotics are given is the ear infection is deep seeded....Otherwise, ointment for the ear is given for infection or yeast...Liquid drops for the ear are given for mites.... None of these will clear up on their own.....Ear infections left untreated can cause an ear drum to rupture and deafness can occur...Plus, again the pain is excruciating!! Been there, done that. ;) Please, have him evaluated very soon before it gets worse......Check back in and let us know how he doing......
416656 tn?1202829314 I BROUGHT HER TO THE VET AND HE NOTICE SHE HAD A HOLE IN HER RIGHT EAR DRUM. HE DRAINED THE INFECTION OUT OF HER EAR AND PUT MED IN HER EAR, AND MEDS FOR ME TAKE HOME TO GIVE HER BY MOUTH.
403311 tn?1205951286 It is ear medication that treats yeast and bacteria otitis (ear infection). You can make a ear solution at home if your dog has a yeast infection in her ears. Use one tablespoon of vinegar in 1/2 cup of warm water. It should be either room temperature or slightly warmer since cold water in ears can cause inner ear problems.
Avatar n tn Perhaps the diagnosis of an ear infection is more complicated when treating a dog? Do you beleive the gram stain was imperative in treating an ear infection? She also recommended the aspiration of a lump I had noticed. My other dog, a 12 year old German Shepard, recently had surgery for mammary cancer by a different vet who believed that an aspiration biopsy was not accurate in this case.
Avatar m tn I am not familiar with the bumps but our Westie has skin problems, dermatitis/yeast - has a bad odor too. We use a medicated shampoo at least once a week that contains something to actively fight yeast infection - I forget the name of the active ingredient, Koe .. something along that line, I'm sure help will show up. I think you are doing the right thing diet-wise, but it may be necessary to test different protein sources. I assume the "wild" line has wild type meat/fish.
1598071 tn?1298208315 Ear mites are only one cause of ear infections in dogs. Yeast and bacterial ear infections are more common causes of head shaking in dogs especially if the ears have already been treated with an insecticide as you have already used. His ears should be checked by a vet and a cytology should be performed on the ear discharge to determine the cause of the infection. A cytology is performed by placing the ear discharge on a microscopic slide, staining the slide than looking under the microscope.
