Common Questions and Answers about Does tussionex have codeine in it

tussionex

Avatar m tn I used to buy Terpin Hydrate with Codeine cough syrup when I lived in Illinois. It was 40% alcohol and like taking 4-5 tabs of Codeine and chasing it with a shot of Whiskey. They took all that kind of thing off the shelves here long ago.
Avatar m tn It may be harder for these people to get off the cough syrup because they are sort of absorb it more so to speak. There are genetic tests to see if you have this enzyme. But they are not covered by insurance and can be expensive. So, any medication that has opioids and drugs that are addictive you should use with caution. A lot of people get easily addicted to codeine in cough syrup as well and this drug is similar.

286124 tn?1214938528 i had severe cramping and didnt understand what it was from, a lot of pain!!! i now know it was the tussionex, but it wouldnt have happened had i taken it properly...the tussionex caused this...it must have been because i was "backed up"...this was a few years ago now...be careful, and watch your diet...
Avatar n tn it affects ur life negatively....ur getting it on the internet or streets, It sounds like u have a condition and its being treated. Sounds fine to me. Ur right that as soon as u say u are on pain meds people freak out and think ur an addict. That isnt always the case. I think being an addict means u r misusing ur medecine or ur taking medecine that isnt prescribed to u. Just because u take meds everyday doesnt automatically make u an addict that needs help.
Avatar n tn Routine use of a nasal steroid spray can be very effective in the treatment of postnasal drip. It decreases inflammation in the nose and sinuses along with mucus production. When a nasal steroid spray is used regularly it can prevent postnasal drip. However it does not provide immediate relief of symptoms. It may need to be used every day for several weeks to months to notice improvement in the symptoms.
636562 tn?1223667445 I recently had a bad reaction to Tussionex Suspension and had to go to the ER. I agree with the doctor that I had a reaction to the Tussionex, but I'm wondering why it affected me so long after I initially took it (I didn't have any symptoms for the first 7-8 hours). I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but I thought a pharmacist would be the best one to answer my question. How do extended release medications work?
Avatar n tn sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. One day at a time, because that's all we've got.
Avatar n tn You should ask your pharmacist. I don't know how much hydrocodone Tussionex has in it, but I wouldn't take both of them. Both medications contain hydrocodone, which you probably already know. That is a very strong narcotic and not one you want to OD on. You can take as much as 10 mg of hydrocodone at a time. That could leave yoy feeling quite out of it though if it is too much for your system. I would probably wait 6 hours from the lortab to take the tussionex. Feel better.
Avatar f tn I took tussionex before and it is amazing. it even tastes good. how many times have you withdrawn from it? how much were you using? it is very expensive. at least it was for me. you are not alone here. there alot of people on this site that were addicted to opiates and went thru withdrawal. just read thru some of the posts.
Avatar f tn Avoiding the pain or basically sweeping it under the rug does not make it go away. You need to acknowledge it and deal with it. Your addiction will only get worse. You can do it if you really want to but only you can do the work. Losing a bf is NOT the end of the world. You had a life before them and you will have a life after them. But doing drugs to numb the pain is not the answer. you need to talk to someone about how youre feeling. Trust me this is not the way to do it.
Avatar n tn I have a bottle of Tussionex since the last time i was pretty sick. It was filled may 15 2008 and Im not sure what the expiration date is on it. would it be fine to take?
Avatar f tn Whether or not it's a 'very high' dose is tricky to answer. For some it is for some it isn't.I would venture to say, from all the reading I have done here in the past year that you're dose is more or less the 'norm' of members that are addicted to the same drug as you.I share the same doc as you and I was up to taking that much,on some days a little more, when I was in active addiction.
1032715 tn?1315984234 Who knows for sure really. But it is a plain fact that IT WILL GET BETTER. I have not taken any pills for two weeks now and am feeling pretty good. There is a lot to deal with after the inital detox, which is hell, but the clock continues to tick and nevertheless and you will get some relief. The struggle is sometimes necessary in order to recognize the true gravity of the situation. Nothing of great importance was never accomplished easily.
Avatar f tn The Levaquin may have brought it on and it is usually a result of acid reflux. It is amazing to me the number of people who have experienced these spasms. Expecially acid reflux sufferers. Once I understood what it was, I did not experience it again, but would have been less afraid thinking my breathing had stopped. And thank you for your get well wishes - the levaquin worked quickly and efficiently.
Avatar n tn It is important to remember when taking codeine for a medical reason during pregnancy it does NOT make you a bad mother. Codeine also can be used long term in low doses with little risk of dependence and withdrawal in baby at the time of delivery. I hope this answers your question.
Avatar n tn I have a cough that does not seem to go away. I had a cold 2 months ago. I have since recuperated except for the persistent dry cough. It seems worse at night; however, I get bouts of deep, dry, coughing throughout the day. I am not prone to allergies and am in general good health. What is it? What can I do to stop it?
Avatar n tn I discovered by accident that the codeine helped it actually so it became a double whammy, I took it for the pain in my head, and I took it for the RLS. I know it can get worse from decreasing narcotics though, my husband was taking morphine for an accident with pain and nerve damage and when he finally was able to cut down and then quit as he got better, he experienced it and he does not have RLS as a stand-alone thing.
Avatar n tn re right pain must be controlled but do you abuse your prescribed amount and it sounds like you have been on it a long time, 2 years. You have a permanent injury does that mean you have permanent pain that cannot be controlled by something that is not opiate and extremely habit forming? The opiates can make your pain worse or less bearable over time. You also admitted you have taken them to feel high so you should really seach your heart about this.
Avatar f tn You are unable to find a substitute because the formulation of Fiorinal differs from country to country. In the US, it contains aspirin, a barbiturate (butalbital) and caffeine. In other countries instead of caffeine, codeine may be used. You can ask the doctor to give you a drug that had aspirin, a barbiturate and codeine. A barbiturate and codeine combination without aspirin will also help. Take care!
Avatar f tn I took that stuff for heck months...until I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back - well as luck would have it I was prescribed Vicodin with has the same crap in it as the cough medicine Tussionex had. Well long story short I have finally come to my senses and gave it all up. I can do it...but man oh man this withdrawal is really terrible....
322138 tn?1306243134 Thankx and best of luck to u as well pal... I understand the kind of pain you might be in physically but you please be strong as well, I don't know how much of the rest of your life you have wrecked in using codeine syrups but I hope it's not too bad, even if it is however, pls be strong and face it humbly, it does pass, my situation is measurably better than when I was using and today it's just the 20th day...
Avatar f tn This drug is a TRIPLE-THREAT in that it has not just one, but THREE highly addicting substances (if u include Codeine)... The Barbiturate, Codeine and the Caffeine (tho that's not life-threatening). I'm so sorry your wife is struggling with this ... AWARENESS MUST BE RAISED about this crazyily addictive drug! Users including ME have been flying under the radar for years when it comes to using / abusing this substance. It's only classified as a Sched III drug!
Avatar f tn I take (and abuse) fioricet with codeine capsules... Bultalbital is the generic name.... I do not know how much codeine is in each capsule, but I know one should NEVER take more than ten in 24 hours due to respitory depression which can cause death...
Avatar f tn Very interesting information Dr. Rajput. However, in the US, all opiods have another type of pain med with them. For example Lortabs are hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Tylenol-3 - acetamenophin and codeine. I didn't know that opiods cause the release of histamine. No wonder I itch like crazy when I take them. I just knew that the itching was a side effect. I wonder if you could use an opiod cough med for pain? I know a lot of people use the pain meds for cough.
