does tussionex have codeine

Does anyone know anything about this cough syrup.?it is supposedly time released and I don't how that works. What is the deal with this stuff everyone says it's very dangerous but no one says why.

Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. It is a fairly addictive drug and some people have genetics (an enzyme called cpy 2d6) that increases the duration the hydrocodone is elevated in their blood. This leads to exaggerated effects or feeling of euphora and other symptoms.

im am addicted to this and hycodan at the same timw for about 3 years i take about a 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of tussionex a day i have drank 3 and 4 ounces in a day many times with ease thought and put any where from 2 tsp to a whole ounce in sprit and i never dont have a cup i also take klodipin i take 2 to 4 mgs a day and take at least 100mg of lortab about ten 10mgs a day but sometimes it does reach up to 20 tens a day plus the cough syrups how bad is my withdrawl for the codiene going to be i

i had severe cramping and didnt understand what it was from, a lot of pain!!! i now know it was the tussionex, but it wouldnt have happened had i taken it properly...the tussionex caused this...it must have been because i was "backed up"...this was a few years ago now...be careful, and watch your diet...

Whats really scaring me is that I have a hard time breathing now so i really have to get off this junk. Does methadone really work for tussionex, it is a narcotic. Anyhow, there is no way i can stay at a house, like i said i have 5 children and i have to be here. I have no one to help and no real support. I hope i dont die.

Had all the allergy shots available on the planet (allergies to dust/dust mites) and today, I read about Tussionex. I control my blood pressure very well with Adalat once a day. I'll be seeing my GP on April 8. I pray that Tussionex (taken only 8 hours or 12 hours prior to my show/s as opposed to taking the narcotic regularly - that's scary) would be permissible for me even when taking Adalat.

I took tussionex before and it is amazing. it even tastes good. how many times have you withdrawn from it? how much were you using? it is very expensive. at least it was for me. you are not alone here. there alot of people on this site that were addicted to opiates and went thru withdrawal. just read thru some of the posts.

I kept thinking maybe I didn't shake up the bottle well enough and got an uneven amount of the "extended release" part of the medication. If that's the case then what happened was caused by me and isn't anything to see my doctor about.

sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. Last night and today, I have relapsed yet again on Tussionex. For the past two weeks, I have felt nothing but excruciating pain in my heart from so many losses. My divorce, my ex boyfriend and my recent ex boyfriend. Then, I used last night. I took a tablespoon of the tussionex and I felt numb. I felt happy. I felt like I didn't want to kill myself. So I took two teaspoons today. The pain is still nagging at the back of my head.

Seriously? Was that codeine mixed with something else? or just plain codeine on its own as that's what I get, just plain codeine tablets as the 30/500 para type didn't agree with me and I asked for codeine without anything added.

I took Tussionex for the first time at 11:00 pm after I took a Levaquin at 10:00 pm. I have bronchitis. I awoke suddenly from my sleep at 2:00 am and had no breath - and could not speak or call my husband although I was trying to say 'help'. I got my breath back after a minute or so and was pretty shaken up by this. I'm very tired but reluctant to go back to sleep if it happens again. I was pretty shaken up. Is this an allergic reaction or a side effect?

I have a cough that does not seem to go away. I had a cold 2 months ago. I have since recuperated except for the persistent dry cough. It seems worse at night; however, I get bouts of deep, dry, coughing throughout the day. I am not prone to allergies and am in general good health. What is it? What can I do to stop it?

I feel like I have the flu..I have been drinking gatoraid, taking the hylands for restless legs, 800 motrin (due to back issues)....Honestly, I still feel like crap...am I nearing the end of this nonsense I got myself tangled up in. I have been taking Codeine for pain for a while now. At first no problems with constipation then I had, literally, 4 bowel movements in the space of about 5-6 weeks. I should add that during this time I was not eating a lot because I had lost my appetite, I'm guessing, because I was so blocked up. The pain has subsided and codeine is no longer necessary. I took a laxative once before bed on the first day without any Codeine.

So I have had a clear blood test and stool sample, does anyone know what I could narrow this down to what I could have?

Very interesting information Dr. Rajput. However, in the US, all opiods have another type of pain med with them. For example Lortabs are hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Tylenol-3 - acetamenophin and codeine. I didn't know that opiods cause the release of histamine. No wonder I itch like crazy when I take them. I just knew that the itching was a side effect. I wonder if you could use an opiod cough med for pain? I know a lot of people use the pain meds for cough.

For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!

have u tried valerian root or mealtonin for sleep..phenergan alo helps..mudcle relaxers like zanaflex, flexeril and drugs like nurontin and lyrica can help....

It is important to remember when taking codeine for a medical reason during pregnancy it does NOT make you a bad mother. Codeine also can be used long term in low doses with little risk of dependence and withdrawal in baby at the time of delivery. I hope this answers your question.

t have the fear that a lot of you have mentioned. That is my advantage I guess, but if there is one thing I can stress: do not be afraid of withdrawal. It IS hell but no, it will not kill you. Your habit could, though. Weird temperature perceptions, weird dreams, aches and pains, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, difficulty urinating and irritability are all part of my withdrawal pattern so far. So are depression, panic and withdrawal from normal life. Do please let your wife or partner know.

When I take codeine it causes nausea and vomiting. Does that mean that I am allergic or is that a side effect? I have only had codeine in cough medications. I am having surgery in the near future. What are the derivatives of codeine that I should not be prescribed for pain? I recently had dental surgery and was given demerol for the pain. I did not find it to be be very effective.
