Common Questions and Answers about Does sumatriptan work

imitrex

Avatar n tn s worth it. Sumatriptan really does NOT work as a tablet, so... if you are taking a tablet form of it, you NEED to get onto another triptan. Talk to your doctor. You could also try taking the following supplements too... and this isn't a midwives tale or new-age health food hippy stuff... this has been scientifically proven, well... the b2 has...
Avatar f tn I've have had chronic migraines for a few years. My current neuro has me on Nortriptyline (20mg every night) and Sumatriptan (100mg take when needed; MAX: 2 times in a day, only twice in a week). My mom has her own medical problems, which include migraines, so I'm switching to her neuro. I've been waiting about 6 months for my appointment, which is finally coming up in March. This guy is very popular, so getting your first appointment is a long wait.
1102283 tn?1257817472 But, due to cost constraints, I would suggest getting a prescription for the cheapest generic triptan which is called Sumatriptan tablets. The Sumatriptan tablets work well for many people, so if they work well for you then that would be excellent and you can just stick to them as your only prescription. Although, due to the extremely low bioavailability of Sumatriptan tablets, they do not always work well for everyone (although Sumatriptan is still the most prescribed triptan on the market).
Avatar m tn Initially the onset of the pains subsided and he went nearly 4 weeks without a pain, although the tight feeling remained and he had to stay cool to keep them at bay. They have since returned to how they were, suggesting either the surgery didn’t work, some of the work carried out has since 'failed' or the build-up of mucus has begun again.
Avatar f tn It seems to help most of the time. I am also on sumatriptan for migraines. This was the first time I experienced this constant pain right behind my left eye. Thought the pain was from migraines so I took sumatriptan . So migraines are a throbbing pain on one side?
1761287 tn?1313824787 If Sumatriptan does not work all the time, you need to inform your doctor for proper manageemnt. There are plenty of migraine medications available and sometimes you need to take several to determine the best medication for you. You may also benefit from evaluation by an ENT doctor to rule out ear issues as well. Biofeedback mechanism and other relaxation techniques may also help. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn I should also note that the very first time i started getting these facial pain attacks, my first doctor thought it was migraines and prescribed me Sumatriptan. And the sumatriptan did take the pain away. And I have learned that sumatriptan helps with cluster headaches. Is there any other trigeminal neuralgia sufferers out there, who suffer the same symptoms as I do? Help me please I am very confused about this condition!!! Sarah.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me trazodone hydrochloride for anxiety, sumatriptan succinate for migraines, zopiclone for sleep, I've been told I can take the trazodone with zopiclone, but I have the new sumatriptan tablets, it says in the medical pamphlet that it is an MAO-A inhibitor and can't be taken with antidepressants/anxiety tablets. Would it be ok to take both the trazodone hydrochloride and the sumatriptin succinate together?
Avatar n tn have you tryed sumatriptan for the pain? i have the same thing your describing, but i do have periods of remmission.. maybe only a few hours at the most. for the most part i take sumatriptan for the pain. i have no idea why it works but it works for me. if you've been on it than maybe it doesnt work, but if you havent been on it, ask your doc about it. hope any of this helps!
Avatar f tn I am now taking sumatriptan injections which masks the pain and also have gone oxygen. I am still suffering daily and have had no success with any medication . I am still under a neurologist who are still not sure why I am getting these horrendous headaches , I have told them I get them when hot . My body overheats and doesn't cool like my temperature gauge is broken.
Avatar f tn What type of headaches did the doctors say you had? This sounds like you might be suffering from "cluster headaches". Cluster headaches are the worst pain that exists pretty much... so, your description of being shot makes me think of that. Also, they are on one side of the head, and usually around the eye. So... the starting point of your headache sounds like it is in the right place for a cluster headache. Also, them waking you up in the night sounds like cluster headaches too.
Avatar f tn I have a migraine of some degree about 28 days of the month. I get Botox injections, am on Topomax, Sumatriptan, anti nausea meds...the whole works. My life was changed in an instant. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar incident, and recovered??? None of my doctors can say if I will ever be free of these migraines...
Avatar f tn Lasted whole day Hospital emergency. Vital signs exam, said fine, stress. Taking occasional strong pain relief, begins with s, does work but he can't take these forever. Suffers occasional Migraines but regularly, at least one ordinary headache per week. Please reply someone.
Avatar n tn I wanted to know if it is ok to take my amitriptyline after i took my sumatriptan.? Can someone please help me? I took bith pills and i don't know if i was supposed to i can't remember what my doctor said.
Avatar f tn I have tried many prescription medications to help with the migraines and have found that sumatriptan has been the best so far. My GP (and my own research) says that hormones levels can be a contributor to migraines. By the way, I am also one of those people who do not have aura before the migraine and very little really seems to irritate me (eg., light, noise).
Avatar f tn I would like to know how long after taking Sumatriptan/Imitrex could any drowsiness side effect be considered to have worn off for when I get a migraine away from home and have no reasonable option to get home without driving myself. A few years ago, I got a migraine while some distance from home. I do not drive with a migraine.
612876 tn?1355514495 Bad news and good news, my fellow dysautonomians (hrm, methinks I just invented a word?) ... The bad news is that my feeling of the fog rolling in yesterday turned out to be the impending doom of one of my really, really bad migraines coming on. For those who don't know, once in a blue moon I have these wicked migraines that put my "normal" migraines to shame.
Avatar n tn The day after the surgery my EP Dr put me on Propranolol daily and Sumatriptan to take when I get the headaches, but it doesn't seem to be working and the migraines keep coming. I've gotten 2 migraines today already. Has anyone experienced this after a heart ablation? did it go away? I cannot imagine having headaches like this for the rest of my life. They are debilitating. I can't go to work, I can't sleep, I can't eat, I can't do anything! HELP!!
Avatar m tn What is going on in there and is there anyway to head it off before it starts. I take sumatriptan, it helps but after its already started.
Avatar f tn It could be tension (believe it or not). Or it may be a migraine. I get sharp pains that are terrible and my neurologist said it was tension. then I also have migraines. Both are on one side of my head. But the migraines last a long time white these sharp pains only last a very short time 5-10 seconds and go away. Usually those short ones are a lone time thing but can come back on another day. In your case it may be a migraine. I wouldn't bother going to a GP I would go to a neurologist.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Sumatriptan or Imigran tablets may or may not be taken with food. There are no special considerations with regards to alcohol but this may trigger or exacerbate migraine attack. Avatar f tn I am so sorry for what you have been going through. I started having migraines when I was 23. They couldn't diagnose me for 8 years because I had no migraine and had vomiting all night (only at night) and abdominal pain. The neurologist did an electroencephalogram and found it was a migraine. I was put on doxepin for a year and that helped but then it didn't work so they finally put me on Klonopin and it went away but then in my 30's it changed to severe migraine and auras.
