Does medroxyprogesterone work

Common Questions and Answers about Does medroxyprogesterone work

Avatar f tn If you were my patient, I would advise you that you are probably seeing the effect of the provera. It does work pretty quickly. Good luck!
777396 tn?1329791151 She is having me do some tests, but says that I more than likely have PCOS. She wants me to take Medroxyprogesterone (Provera) to get my periods regulated. I first wanted to know about side effects. Second I was reading that this particular drug is not recommended as it could cause some sort of pregnancy issue. Wasn't sure about if that was fact or myth. Any input is appreciated.
Avatar n tn My dr forwarned me that it doesn't always work the first time to give it 2-3 wks after the last pill if it doens't start she will do it a second time.
Avatar f tn got prescribed medroxyprogesterone 10mg to stop my bleeding of 2months. how long does it take to work? I been taking it for 3days and still heavy bleeding.
Avatar f tn This is actually one of the side effects of the drug. Are you taking it on the days prescribed? Are you taking it at exactly the same time for each dose? Those are things that can affect how well the medication works. I would wait about four more days and then contact the doctor. Some medications can take several months to "kick in" but this shouldn't be the case here.
Avatar n tn He made me feel guilty for being pregnant and for wanting to keep my baby. Anyhow, I was given Medroxyprogesterone to help bring about a period. I start right on time (just four days after taking the pills.) It was extremly heavy and definately like a period. Now that I've menstrated, I should be ovulating soon! (from the 21st-25th) With all this being said, i was wondering if it would be possible to get pregnant again? does taking medroxy. for four days prolonge getting pregnant?
Avatar n tn You can also add some of this tea ,with the use of a drop[per ,to add it to breast cream ,and whatever doesn't get absorbed ,let it stay to dry on its own. This does work ,I have been doing this for 6 months. My breasts are firm ,and growing.
Avatar f tn I am sick of doctors I don't know where to turn. I find some doctors cold and uncaring. Does anyone know a doctor in the Boston area that's nice? Any advice for the symptoms is much appreciated. Please help.
Avatar f tn For the past year (perhaps longer but only tested every 3 months this year) my Ferriten level has been at a 4 despite iron supplementation (when able to tolerate) They have done a complete upper/lower GI work up and everything was normal, stated it was probably from heavy menstrual cycles. I had a transvag ultrasound compelted and found a fibroid (3cm) in left side of uterus. I was referred to OB/GYN and went for the appt yesterday.
1897345 tn?1374269455 I was also prescribed this medroxyprogesterone and hated it because it made me hurt in very uncomfortable spots! The only thing this medicine does is clean you out. It does not help you ovulate. If ovulating is your problem then you might need to try something like Clomid. I have PCOS and the only sign that I had was weight gain and weird periods. I was put on Metformin and it help amazingly! Be sure you are going to a doctor that you feel comfortable with.
Avatar m tn After I told my doctor this, she had me take those 10 day pills to see if they would make me get my period (medroxyprogesterone? I can't remember). I got my period on the 8th day of taking them, which I thought was odd because you are supposed to get your period after the 10th pill. I also had blood work done and all that I found from that was that I'm low on vitamin D (unrelated).
Avatar n tn Hi, I haven't had a period in about 8 weeks, I am 38 years old. NOT pregnant. I have a Hemorrhagic Cyst on my ovary. Dr. says THAT is not causing my period not to I am undergoing a "TEST" he says....I am on Medroxyprogesterone for 10 days to see if it will jump start my period and dissolve the cyst. IF my period does not start, he says we could be looking at some other issues such a my pituitary gland. Or possible early menopause.
Avatar n tn Prior to surgery, I had been tried on two different types of oral BC pills, both mostly synthetic hormones. Needless to say, they did NOT work. The Yasmin turned me into a meanie, and the Seasonale not only made me an evil wacky b***, but I also had a light period for nearly two months. I finished the Seasonale packet the day after surgery, was off the hormones for about a week, and then my gyn gave me the options of more oral BC, Depo-Provera, or Depo-Lupron.
Avatar f tn a crazy feeling in my head along with dizzyness. This was so bad I had to leave work. After going off the birth control my period is back with a vengance sometimes changing every 25 mins with super tampons or sometimes an hour or so but no longer during the larger part of the day. I was put on another hormone medroxyprogesterone which is supposed to stop the bleeding. It seems that after I take it in the evening, it does seem to slow me down.
1611503 tn?1325485790 ok so i have been taking this med. for about 4 days its called medroxyprogesterone b/c my period are irregular i have 6 more days to go and i just wanted to know can i get pregnant when im done with the pills and if i can when is the best time to have intercourse???? i really want all the women who knows about this medicine to help me thankyou so much!!!!! please stay in touch ill answer all questions!
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone I'm new to this site but have found a lot of similar posts On what I'm going through. I've always had irregular periods. But they stopped completely. Back in 2013 I was diagnosed with Diabetes type 2 and Hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is what I believed caused the stop of my periods and At that time I weighed 238 and Doctor basically told me I needed to lose some weight before we addressed the no period issue as I had not had any in 4 years (at that time).
Avatar m tn I don't have heavy bleeding a tampon works fine. I am not overweight all of my blood work is perfect. I have been pregnant before naturally, so this diagnosis makes no sense to me. I eat healthy and workout and have no problem with my weight, no unexplained weight gain, etc. I thought I had a miscarriage because I fell on pavement and landed on my pelvic bone and that's when I started bleeding (my dog whacked me on the back of the knee as we were walking with his head).
Avatar n tn I do not mean to scare you, but I think it is important to note, that there is a reason that they stopped using medroxyprogesterone as a pregnancy test... one because there are faster ways, now... and secondly, because it can cause birth defects when taken early in pregnancy (specifically to the genital area). Given how little time you have been taking it, though, I would say that risk is very minimal, even if you are pregnant.
2035763 tn?1329566863 I am now 14 days out after starting the meds, so 4 days after stopping and no period yet. What happens next? Does anyone know? If the medroxyprogresterone doesn't work, what do they do now? I feel there is someting wrong because I am having period symptoms and no period. I swear I feel I have several months of bloating going on and am so afraid I will wind up in the hospital if/when bleeding ever begins.
Avatar f tn I went to my doctor and they did a pregnancy test. It came back negative. I had some blood work test done and my doctor called me today and said that my tests were pretty good except that my hormone level was pretty low. She told me that I would need to take MEDROXYPROGESTERONE so it can help me get my menstrual cycle. I have not had my period for a couple months. I just got off the Depo. But I'm freaking out. What does this all mean? Will I be able to get pregnant?
Avatar n tn Seriously, we have receptors for this in our lungs and brains and it is a critical hormone and if you don't balance it even if you are on a bio estrogen, you will not feel your best. Okay, I am getting carried away. Must go and work out....I will come back in a sec with the posts, will have to go into the Ovarian Cancer Archieves for some of these. Best Luck and we will stay in touch!!! Mary...Oh, here is the chart: Say, this chart did not copy well. I will try to send the link.
Avatar n tn My sister give me one of her hormone pill used to regulate her periods and it seems to work when it gets really strong. I don't take the pills everyday because they make my a little jittery. I took them to my Dr to ask his opinion on y they seem to work and to see if he could give me an alternative. He could not. He thought it was in my head. the pills are Medroxyprogesterone.
Avatar n tn Provera will also stop your bleeding if you have some dysfunctional uterine bleeding (twice a day for five days). During pregnancy, Provera does not cause bleeding. Provera definitely does NOT cause a miscarriage and is definitely used during pregnancy, expecially if you have a low progesterone level.
Avatar n tn Five days after I started the medroxyprogesterone, I had another attack at work, but was able to quiet myself down enough to drive home, and didn't get back to feeling normal until mid-morning the next day. During my previous years on hormone therapy, I did notice that about 3 days after starting the medroxyprogesterone each month, the hot flashes would come back and I would several times awaken in the middle of the night or in the morning with the feeling that I could not breathe enough air.
Avatar n tn Hi I am 23 years old. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19. I also was diagnosed with HPV when I was about 18. I do not have periods by myself. I weigh about 225 5'7. I have not had a weight problem before I found out I had PCOS. I have been working on my eatting and excercise habits for the past few years. Me and my husband have had unprotected sex for about 2 1/2 years now. I finally went to the dr.
Avatar f tn Zoloft 50mg, iron supplement, and nerve medicine. I get a referral to see a OBGYN. Made the appointment and she does an exam on me and refers me to a specialist to have a vaginal ultrasound. She puts me on : Medroxypergesterone 10mg And since I'm on anti - depressants it limits the birth control options for me. So.. She puts me on: Ortho Progesterone 28's I started the Medroxyprogesterone and by the 8th out of 10 days, I finally stopped my period. It was amazing. I was happy and had energy.
Avatar f tn (that is the name of the little cavity that it sits in) is often filled with cerebral spinal fluid. Often that gland itself does not function right and needs special tests. Did you have a child three-four years ago? Or were you in some type of accident? Your best best would be to see a neuroendocrinologist. That is a special type of endo who would work at a pituitary center at a larger medical center. They know what lab tests to run.
430388 tn?1239588723 i was recently diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and i am only 19 years old i havent had my period since Jan of 08 and still havent gotten it i am deeply saddened by it and but feel more depressed knowing it cuases infertilty my doctor told me it would be better to get pregnant while i was still younger rather than waiting till i was older so i dont risk my chances of not having a baby at all i am doing everything i can to keep my chances of gettin pregnant does anyone have any ideas so
Avatar f tn I'm lucky in that I don't have a weight problem except for my stomach sticking out a little, which doesn't diminish no matter how often I work out or what I eat or avoid eating. But I'm not too concerned with that right now. My endocrinologist said that there aren't a lot of medications for PCOS. She said that there's basically these options: Spironolactone, Metformin, birth control and some other pill that was designed for men and could give women cancer so she wouldn't suggest that one.
