Avatar m tn Her question is that, is it possible that Hyperthyroidism can go away? because she is worried that if she stops taking the medication, the condition will return. What's your guys' opinion? Thanks!
Avatar n tn From your numbers, I'd say you need more Carbimazole, not less. You are still hyperthyroid. The Carbimazole acts as an anti-thyroid agent, causing it to produce less T4. As far as switching to RAI or surgery, I'd say that is up to you and your doctor. The hyperthyroidism from Graves likely won't go away and stay away on ATDs unless you are one of the very lucky ones. Four months on ATDs isn't long enough to get you into remission if it were going to happen.

Avatar n tn Sorry, Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease that is life long, though there are treatments for it that can allow you to live a normal life. What symptoms prompted you to get tested for thyroid issues? What tests were done to diagnose Graves? There's no reason that, once properly treated, you shouldn't be able to play sports again..
Avatar f tn I am glad I found this site, I found out today that I have graves disease, I also have a multinodular goiter and I had a thyroid scan and it showed a cold area, so I have to have a biopsy. I am so scared, I have never really been sick and now all of a sudden I get this. Has anyone had a biopsy on a nodule and how long does it take for the results to get back? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn I was told by my Endo that Hashi's is not curable, and does not go away, You might want to post your labs here, either you still have Hashimoto's or you did not have it to begin with.I doubt that it just goes away on its own. I would also advise a second opinion with an Endocrinologist that is experienced with thyroid problems, some are more experienced with diabetes and not so much with thyroid.

542445 tn?1215132963 I am having a total thyroidectomy on Friday and I was wondering the time frame in which the symptoms of hyperthyroidism/Graves start to go away or if they do at all? Has anyone noticed or kept track of certain symptoms that go away or improve after this procedure? I have a whole list of symptoms and was thinking that yes I'm having my thyroid removed, but hyperthyroidism is a symptom of Graves. So will the Graves symptoms be controlled or relived when my thyroid is removed?
Avatar f tn I just went to a new doctor. I saw 2 doctors(endos) they said continue taking these meds and test in 6 weeks. They also agreed that my tests really don't fit Graves disease anymore. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? I had my cortisol tested in August and it was normal 17 after a fast. Maybe it's piuitary related. All I know is I don't feel well at all. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I am researching supplements and alternative therapies and I am quite sure my doctor will be pissed when I go back to him at the end of this month. Does anyone have any good testimonials about alternative treatments for this disease?
110220 tn?1309306861 I was diagnosed with Graves disease and I have read everything regard the disease and what I find most fearful is the eye issues that can result with Graves Disease. many articles indicate only 30% of people with Graves disease have issues with their eyes. Is this correct? I am seeing an eye doctor in a couple of weeks? I do feel grit in one of my eyes from time to time. This is pretty nerve racking.
Avatar n tn I believe the statistic is less than 50% of those who have Graves thyroid disease develop any symptoms of Graves Eye Disease. Each is caused by different sets of antibodies. Some people get eye disease without ever having thyroid problems. And, of those with Graves/thyroid who do develop eye disease, only about 5% of those ever develop serious enough eye problems (bulging, eyelid retraction, double vision, optic nerve issues) to warrant surgery.
877337 tn?1249844450 Graves' disease may present clinically with one of the following characteristic signs: * exophthalmos (protuberance of one or both eyes) * a non-pitting edema (pretibial myxedema), with thickening of the skin usually found on the lower extremities * fatigue, weight loss with increased appetite, and other symptoms of hyperthyroidism * rapid heart beats * muscular weakness The two signs that are truly 'diagnostic' of Graves' disease (i.e.
Avatar n tn m sorry, my previous answer might have been confusing......... Once you have an autoimmune disease, you have it for life; it does not go away, though it may go into remission. Free T4 is converted to T3, mostly in the liver, though the conversion takes place in other parts of the body as well, plus the thyroid produces some T3. Some of us do not convert properly, therefore have to add a source of T3 to our regimen. That's why testing for Free T3 is so important.
Avatar f tn Did I develop neutropenia from the Graves disease and how do I stop the neutropenia from getting worse? Also, what are some things that I should avoid as a result of my neutropenia? In addition, my heart rate ranges from 120-140 and I feel very tired and confused. Are these feelings a result of my heart rate? Thank you in advance.
372751 tn?1310358305 This is likely graves disease. The uptake is normal or high in graves. You have a strong family history as well. The blood tests are the reflection of hyper vs hypo -- not the uptake values -- the uptake values tell us why someone is hyper (not if they are hyper)....ie low uptake is thyroiditis (transient) - normal or high is graves or toxic nodule(s).
Avatar f tn I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few years with no success. I finally found out that I was pregnant the beginning of last year and made it to 4 months and suffered a miscarriage for no apparent reason.
Avatar f tn my son was a newly diagnosed "graves disease" pt. he was given tatazole tablet 5mg. to be taken after breakfast for one month, what are the side effect of tatazole, the things he have to avoid and if you can give me more/additional information about the disease. thanks!
