Avatar n tn Other options include cephalosporins such as cefpodoxime proxetil (Vantin) and cefuroxime (Ceftin). In patients allergic to beta-lactams, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim), clarithromycin (Biaxin), and azithromycin. So, if you are allergic to the penicillin group your doctor could have prescribed Bactrim for you. Regards.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, you have a history of drug allergy. It is quite rare one having allergy to all the medication. In such cases you need to keep anti histaminics with you so as to prevent allergic reactions. Drugs like penicillin and sulfa group of drugs are most common cause for hypersensitivity reaction. As you have a history of penicillin allergy. If your body is hypersensitive to sulfa, reaction will be similar to that you develop for penicillin.
Avatar f tn html Category A Only a few medications fall into category A, which means that human studies have shown no evidence of fetal harm in the first trimester or later in the pregnancy. Nystatin vaginal (Mycostatin) Category B Most antibiotics are Category B, which means that there is no known association with birth defects or other pregnancy-related complication and the drug is probably safe.
Avatar n tn I was on plaquenil and biaxin for Lyme Disease for almost 4 weeks and just stopped taking them because I think it may have caused an allergic reaction. Last week I noticed some weird red spots on my buttocks on just one side. They looked like raised hives, but they weren't, they were flat and smooth. They didn't appear to have any dry skin on them, but I still thought it might be psoriasis, which I've never had before.
Avatar f tn I have been frequently prescribed antibiotics (no penicilin or sulfa as I have been allergic since a child) over the past two years for having several bouts of sinus infections, throat infections and bronchitis symptoms. Suddenly, since April I started developing strange symptoms while taking any antibiotic. The antibiotics I've taken since April are Avelox, Zithromax, Clindamycin and Biaxin (all of which I haven taken previously over the years w/ no problems).
Avatar n tn your penis -- which you would not have missed). But in any case, if you caught it the clarithromycin (Biaxin) and amoxicillin would have cured it. 2) No. Chlamdyia was no risk at all (it isn't acquired by oral sex and the vaginal was protected) and gonorrhea, which can be acquired by oral sex, almost always causes symptoms and in any case would have been cured by the antibiotics you have taken. You didn't catch anything.
Avatar n tn I know this is a weird question however my husband just started on it and I am afraid that I am having a reaction to it. I have allergies to Sulfa, PCN, biaxin, macrodantin..As well as a milk allergy and strawberries.
Avatar f tn Also, I have been off the pill for about a month and a half and no yeast infection:) so far so I'm guesing I eliminated the culprit. I also take acidophilus pretty regulary could I still have possible candida overgrowth? Ive searched the symptoms, in which there's a huge array but I have some of them. If it was indeed candida overgrowth wouldn't I have a chronic yeast infection or thrush I believe they call it?
Avatar n tn I have severe rashes now after taking bactrim for 5 days , I had to stop taking it as it made me feel very sick. Many weeks later Istill have these rashes on different parts of the body ...
Avatar f tn I need to get off of these as much as possible and it is in everything! Food, meds, and other various things. Anyone have a website that could help me with this or other that resources?
723952 tn?1231857532 they are cyst-busters. I was on biaxin for that purpose (along with another med to kill the bugs after they came out of the cyst), but had a reaction to it after several months; so the dr switched me to flagyl and a different antibiotic. It's a fair question why the dr would give you two cyst busters. Sounds like a lot. Good luck with the new job!! Sounds like a good one.
Avatar f tn I have not seen any problems using tapazole in patients with sulfa allergies.
4451049 tn?1387153437 My insurance covers Mepron and almost every thing else a doctor could order. But I can't get it in Oregon, which isn't my insurance company's fault but a certain person in Oregon (and high up Kaiser Permanente) who has made doctors here afraid to treat for Lyme. http://lyme.kaiserpapers.org/oregon.
Avatar n tn facility doctor told me I probably had chronic bronchitis (with some post nasal drip), and prescribed Biaxin 500mg 2x for 10 days. Recently, my physician told me I may have allergies and told me to take Claritin and Albuterol (only been on Claritin intermittently since my breathing is good, despite the sometimes slight wheezing). Cough is sometimes 'dry', and at other times 'productive', but with clear fluid that I usually swallow again.

Avatar f tn I want to quit the doxy but im told to just ride it out. I am wondering what exactly Doxy helps with? I kno biaxin helps with Bartonella for example. But what does Doxy do exactly for someone with late stage chronic lyme?
Avatar f tn During this time I have also developed Psoriatic Arthritis and have been put on a Sulfa Drug. They have been monitoring my blood work up close for the past 3 months and have noted that my white cell count is low most of the time. The highest it has been in these past months is the bottom end of normal, but lingering around 3.0. Also, my red cell count is down a bit too around 3.8.
Avatar f tn I was given antibiotics for it and I thought it went away. This past weekend it returned, this time with swollen glands!! The doctor took blood and did a throat culture, in case I had strep or mono. Neither was present. BUT he gave me a different antibiotic for the sinus infection called Biaxin, for acute sinusitis, which has been working wonders after one day on it. But I just read that Biaxin is given to HIV/AIDS patients for Mycobacterium avium complex!!!!
Avatar m tn Does this sound like a chancre? Do I need to be concerned about syphilis given the antibiotics I have taken and the very low risk nature of the potential exposure?
1094370 tn?1317134825 Carrie - Glad you're making progress! That's great news. I developed new symptoms after I started treatment, which just frustrated me to no end. It annoyed me that with so many abx in my body, the little buggers could relocate to a new place and cause new problems. Carrie & Mojogal - Are your docs prescribing plaquenil along with the Biaxin?
Avatar f tn Are you talking about the antibiotic eye ointment? I refused them for my baby, and while they weren't thrilled it wasn't really an issue. I was 100% sure i didn't have any studs. I wrote it in my birth plan and reminded the nurses, and they just documented that I refused them.
Avatar n tn s unlikely that you would get hiv from a single exposure, although it does happen (i think it is something like a (1 in 500 chance). You have to think about the possibility that your nerves are adding to some your symptoms.
