t want to take the Clindamycin because it made me so ill, he prescribed Cephalexin. Does anybody know anything about this drug? I looked it up and it said it is similar to penicillen. Will it work since the penicillen didn't? Sorry to sound so paranoid, but my dentist is not very easy to talk to about this and I am so scared. I hate when people/doctors think you're exaggerating. I got infected about 3 weeks ago with Gonorrhea of the throat i had a mild sore throat and just thought it was tonsillitis since i suffer from it a lot i just went to a STD clinic and told me i have Gonorrhea in the throat and since i am extremely allergic to penicillin they gave me 2 gm of Azithromycin to take in a single dose which i did today. Now, since yesterday i have been experiencing some joint discomfort and sever non-stop tingling all over my body.
My question is could this be DGI?
In patients allergic to beta-lactams, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim), clarithromycin (Biaxin), and azithromycin. So, if you are allergic to the penicillin group your doctor could have prescribed Bactrim for you. Regards.
It MIGHT cure it, but chances are, it won't. Several strains of gonorrhea are now pretty much resistant to many medications, including azithromycin.
The CDC ONLY recommends treatment with Rocephin (ceftriaxone) or a few other selected medications. Azithromycin is not on the list.
Hi, can anyone advise if the treatment for oral gonorrhoea is the same as vaginal? Also as I'm allergic to penicillin is 400mg of Suprax® / Cefixime and 1000mg Azithromycin ok to treat it. I'm in the uk, what are the chances of a resistant strain?
penicillin is the preferred treatment and you should get the shots you need of it. you don't want to have syphilis go unproperly treated!
I have read lots of your post concerning biaxin and azithromycin and whether they cure syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and NGU. I have found that biaxin is chemically different than azithromycin but biologically same at killing bacteria as azithromycin. On some post you say that azithromycin or clarithromycin(biaxin) would cure all the bacterial stds then in others you state that there could be some problems.

t feel their trip has been wasted. In reality, they often have a virus that does not need an antibiotic. If they do have a true infection and get their medication, they don't take it properly or finish the full course of therapy. (I try to remember this as my kids fight me on those last doses of goo for those ear aches!) Resistance is growing and I think I will see in my life time a big problem with it. Wasn't it staph infections that they talked of super bugs with last summer?
I tested positive for Gonorrhea of the throat today. I’m allergic to Penicillin and Doxy, so my doctor decided that 2 tablets of Azithromycin 500mg totalling to 1000mg was enough. However, online along with my local lgbt center say that I was not fully treated. Is this correct? I’m really stressed and upset, so I don’t know what to do anymore. Thanks for responding to my post. It makes sense that ampicillin, amoxicillin, or any others in the penicillin family could treat syphilis (being that penicillin is the recommended treatment). I only asked for the source of the info because I wanted to know if they were somehow less effective treatments than regular old penicillin. Thanks again!
I was told there was a chance of gonorrhea and chlamydia. 2. I have read that azithromycin does not work against gonorrhea, but was told it will. which is correct? 3. From this episode, what is my risk of HIV? How soon should I get a test for this?
So I had chlamydia about a month ago, approximately, and my tonsils were very swollen, so when I got treated for the chlamydia they prescribed me azithromycin, so I took the medication and within a week my symptoms were going away one by one by my tonsils still are very swollen to this day and they don't seem to be going down, ive always had generally large tonsils but never this large. My tonsils have these little holes in them and sometimes the holes with have puss in them.
What effect does this have on your earlier comment about the ceftriaxone and azithromycin protecting against syphilis?
Other known pathogens causing infections of the throat are viral and yeast (candida). The antibiotic of choice for a streptococcal infection is penicillin but azithromycin is also effective.

Two days later I had a pain in the back of my testicles and went to see urgent care. They stated I may have Chlamydia/Gonorrhea and gave me a shot of Rocephin intramuscularly. My tests all came back clear, with the exception of a 1:2 titre on syphilis with a confirmatory test result. This blood test was taken before my shot. I was also given 500 mg of Azithromycin and 200mg a day of Doxycycline for 14 days.
