Common Questions and Answers about Do dogs throw up after seizures

throwing-up

Avatar m tn Are you sure she's not dreaming? Dogs DO dream, and some of them actually RUN in their sleep! They can also be sound asleep with their eyes open. It's pretty unlikely that she's only having seizures when she's asleep, if she was prone to a seizure disorder she certainly would have had at least ONE while she was awake. The odds against her never having a seizure while awake but always having them while sleeping are staggering.
1127591 tn?1265254911 I was wondering if the seizures will eventually kill him, or cause him brain damage? He is usually weak after the seizures and may throw up or have to go to the bathroom. So are the seizures less of a threat than the drugs?
Avatar f tn Now, as to the pill winding up on the floor, whenever we give our dogs pills, we always check the floor next to his food after he eats if we put it in there, or we watch him until he takes it from our hand and finally swallows, and of course if we have to jam it down his throat, we just watch for a few seconds to make sure he doesn't hack it up. So, it's not uncommon for dogs to work that pill out of whatever treat you put it in.
Avatar f tn shes due back at the vets tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone else had seen these symptoms in there dogs after a seizure, getting worried that something might be wrong...i would really appreciate any information...thank you....
Avatar n tn He said the heart was lifted because of fat. After the antibiotics she continued to throw up once or twice a week so we took her back and got another round of antibitiotics. She is done that now and continues to throw up. We have spent more than $1000 already and can not afford to continue to take her for expensive tests with no results. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Our 4 year old Aussie just had a first seizure this morning. I have dealt with seizures before in another dog, but the aftermath of this is very different and hard. The jerking and then the stiffness lasted about 5 minutes or so, but when he started to come out of it and relax, he jumped up and started barking fiercely at us like he didn't know us. We got the other dogs out of the room in case of agitation or attack.
Avatar m tn t want to leave her on anti seizure meds if this could be a allergic reaction.
641243 tn?1235752084 04 pm the weezing was gone and hope set in as I saw her stare at me ,,but she passed away. Do dogs throw up after pheno. or could it have been the anethisia? All is Gods will but I wonder. And dogs suffer? She must have seized for 2 hours and I feel quite guilty for letting her suffer. Note pre-seize she was distant for a few days. Hiding under kitchen table, in a daze and not responding. She did have trama that may have induced seizure and was on preocit with two visits to vet.
Avatar f tn All has been well until tonight(10-13-08). I was reading on the net that dogs do not have epilepsy, it is strictly a human condition. I want to believe my vet but.... Will you please explain to me what causes seizures in dogs and what I can di to prevent it?
Avatar f tn When I was around 7 or 8 I started having funny feelings in my head, and would have them multiple times a day. Then I would get a really strong feeling in my head and see random images as if I was watching tv. After I would throw up and have confusion, like I didn't know who I was or where I was. I thought it might have been petit mal seizures and went to the doctors, they said I was fine and they would go away.
Avatar m tn He has had about five seizures in his lifetime, and the last four occurred about three or four months apart. After those seizures, which lasted all of five minutes, he would snap right back to normal. But after his last seizure, which occurred on Saturday.....different story. That morning, he woke up very lethargic acting, and slept all throughout the day, not eating anything or wanting to drink anything. Then in the early evening, he had a major seizure.
851294 tn?1239015716 Unless he is having cluster seizures, in which case he should be taken to an emergency bet, do not home-medicate your dog for seizures. A singular, isolated seizure can indicate anything from low blood sugar to idiopathic epilepsy and should never be medicated for at home until a veterinarian has examined the dog and has given his opinion on what the cause was and whether or not treatment is even necessary. Just hang in there until the vet is open and call the office as soon as you can.
675347 tn?1365460645 interesting ....I just saw it in dogs that hadnt eaten their dinner or hadnt been fed, my dogs also threw up after eating grass so again if they were feeling Nauseus it was to make themsleves throw up....LOL if you get my drift..
Avatar m tn ve read many many many blogs about how dogs are reacting to Phenobarb treatment for seizures. It is so concerning and I am so confused what to do. For a few months after a lipoma removal surgery, our dog Ranger started to 'trip' while walking. Then a few days ago he had a seizure during the night and again about 9 hours later. We took him to the vet yesterday and were told they could try treating him for epilepsy, but it could also be a brain tumor causing the issue.
551505 tn?1215208461 Hello and welcome to the Dogs community! No, dogs aren't supposed to have seizures. In younger dogs, say 4 and under, the cause is usually idiopathic. That means there's not any clear reason like a tumor or other lesion in the brain causing the seizures. In senior dogs, it's more likely that there is a growth of some kind, but not always. Most seizures can be well controlled with phenobarbitol and/or other medications.
Avatar n tn Phenobarbitol is the first line of treatment for dogs with epilepsy and it can take a while to determine the correct dose. I would expect to see a better response by now so give your vet a call and report what you're seeing. He may want to increase the dose. If medical treatment doesn't improve the seizures, you'll need to look deeper for the cause. Most of the time seizures show up for no apparent reason. Sometimes they're caused by a lesion in the brain.
Avatar n tn hi i have a boxer male 8 years old and he is starting to take seizures can you tell me what it may be from i also have an older boxer female who has them as well and sometimes stares into space not knowing where she is.
Avatar f tn my cousin was throwing up up until she delivered. have you asked your doctor for nausea pills? try some water with a lemon wedge in there. it helps me.
Avatar f tn Hello, I fed my dog last night some of the chicken for a marie calenders pot pie (about 3 pieces), right about 15 minutes after he ate it he tried to throw up but kept swallowing it. He was fine all night however, this morning it looks like he threw it up in one clump like he didnt chew it. His poo yesterday was normal. Do you think I should take him to the vet or just wait and see how he does? If I do take him to the vet what do you suspect they would do? (i.e. bloodtest, or fecal test?
Avatar f tn Blood test is a good thing to do. In my dogs case the test shwed everything normal. We have had the best results in using dog food that does not contain corn or wheat or grain (most do). In fact it appears to have corrected the situation...so far two mos and no trouble. Though this does not apply in your case perhaps it will help others.
Avatar n tn They can do. Older dogs can get seizures for many reasons. Always seek vetinary advice if you are concerned.
Avatar f tn It's not uncommon in purebred dogs to have these kinds of problems become genetically built in to a breeding line. I hope to heaven that whoever bred your puppy will spay and neuter the parents. Have any imaging studies like an MRI or CT scan been done on your pup? When dogs develop epilepsy at a young age an underlying cause is usually not found. In older dogs you'd look for something like strokes or a growth in the brain.
Avatar m tn Tramadol caused my 11 year old chow chow Emily to have seizures after two days 4 pills and the Rimadyl side effects I just read here are equally as bad. Both were give to her by her vet of six years. If anyone has any ideas please contact me at ***@****. Thank you.
640548 tn?1340553355 Pets know when their people are stressed. alert dogs, do that naturally and people encourage and refine that ability. They cant teach a dog that ability, to predict. they are special. Assist dogs I think most likely do that to some degree on their own also, I assume this because of the dog I trained. Most of the magic was the dog, not me. you can encourage this nature in your dog to warn or hover by rewarding it. chickens a strong motivator ;) hope it keeps up good tho, and hugs!
Avatar f tn Every once and a while (maybe once a month, maybe more...) I'll need to throw up the meals I've eaten that day. Its not a nauseous feeling, just something telling me I need to go throw up. Its usually in the afternnon or evening, and it's like I didn't digest anything for the day. ALL of the food I've eatin that day comes out the same way it went in. It's almost never broken down and this is HOURS after I've eaten it.
