Avatar n tn ve never had one). She did a dipstick test that showed no signs of infection but sent it to be cultured anyhow. She did find blood in my urine (not visible to the eye). I am now extremely worried. I have no pain anywhere, just a discomfort associated with "holding it". I am female, 38, non smoker, and currently not sexually active. I take continuous birth control - haven't had an off day in 8 months.
Avatar m tn And now three month pass, my penis pain again when urine, I went for clinic and doctor use dipstick to test mu urine, he said I had urine infection and treated me as uti again. My question is did dipstick can differentiate the std bacteria and uti bacteria? If no , why the doctor can confirm I infected uti bacteria but no std bacteria such as chlamydia?
Avatar n tn They might. Usually they just do a dipstick which is a quick look for blood or bacteria. A culture is when they send it to the lab to see if anything grows that the dipstick didn't find. They should also check your urine under a microscope to see if you have any white blood cells present. You should call and ask. If they didn't do that, they need to.
Avatar f tn I saw an urgent care doctor a few days ago who ran urinalysis. The dipstick test in office was clear aside from showing blood in the urine. Specimen was sent off to culture, still haven't heard results (4 days). Doctor prescribed Cipro 500mg 2x per day for 1 week in case it was kidney or bladder related. While on cipro, I started feeling much worse. Unsure if it was a reaction, or related/unrelated illness, (pretty sure it's the flu) I made a visit to the emergency room.
Avatar f tn Hi Doctor, I had an unprotected sex with a female, after 2 weeks i started to feel burning sensation in my penis. I went for a regular dipstick urine test and the test came negative for leukocytes. a week later i was getting thin white discharge it was not very thickest more watery but white in color. so i went to a doctor and she did a dipstick which came postive (1+) for leukocyctes. The doctor suspected for chylamdia and gannorhea and gave me azythromax 1 mg.
Avatar m tn My dipstick test came back negative for protein. My numbers were in the normal range for gravity and ph balance. Its color was a pale yellow. I am not really peeing any more or less. My gp seelmed satisfied with the results and told me not to worry. I am not so sure.
Avatar n tn I would suggest you return to the doctor, confirm you continue to suffer from the same symptoms, and ask that a second sample be sent to the lab. Better still, ask for the urine container and the requisition for the lab, collect the sample at home and drop it off at the lab as soon as possible after collecting it.
Avatar f tn Thanks Alex, I keep hoping I'm wrong because I'm supposed to go for blood work and maybe a bone marrow biopsy next week with an out of town hematologist/oncologist and I'm concerned that he won't see me if I am on antibiotics and that would mean waiting another 3 months and requesting a different day off for me and the person I've asked to go with me. That's good to know about the cranberry pills!
Avatar m tn Hi just wanted to to see if your symptoms got better after the UTI? I also had a UTI for 2 months. It cleared up but I still have the urgency to pee. Some days are better than others. If you could let me know?
Avatar f tn i took a sample, which unfortuneately, was clear to the docs. She did a dipstick test and found extremely high levels of nitrates in it. she has given me some anti biotics and sent the rest of the sample for further testing. Some websites say that blood and no pain could mean cancer?? otehrs say kidney infections? its just soooo extreme and its bothering me. im 30 years old and just need to know what it could poss mean? is it anything to wory about? and can it get fixed?
Avatar f tn Often doctors pressed for time just treat based on your symptoms, your age, and a quick urine dipstick test, which is often inaccurate. Find out what the urine culture results were. You also probably need to be seen by a urologist for other possible causes of your symptoms .
Avatar n tn if it is positive for bacterial growth, get treated with antibiotics. Your doctor may also do a urine dipstick test in the office. This may indicate the presence of lots of white cells or nitrites, which can be an early test for bladder infection. Your doctor would be wise to treat you with antibiotics if the dipstick test suggests a bladder infection. Dr. Hoyte.
Avatar f tn After the 3 days, did a dipstick urine test and everything came back normal. Now, a month later got a uti again. Now sure if it came back, or its just a regular uti. Since its holidays i havent been able to contact a dr, so im taking cipro again 500mg 2x a day and currently just finished the 3rd day. How many days should i take this time? Done after my 3rd day or keep going?
Avatar m tn The dipstick is fine for a UTI, but you want them to look at the urine under a scope to see any white blood cells or bacteria. The dipstick is a pretty good test, but with you still having symptoms, you need something more than that now. Ask them to also culture the urine and see if anything grows over a couple of days time.
622940 tn?1252515107 There the dipstick turned up lots of blood in my urine, so I was scheduled for a CT scan. It was negative except for some calcium deposits in my pelvic area and a cyst on my left kidney. I was then scheduled for a cystoscopy which revealed no problems with my bladder. Urine was collected from my bladder for cytology. That was 9 days ago and I have not heard anything. However, my urine is getting darker and cloudier.
Avatar m tn The burning would be a sign of infection. Your doctor should do both the dipstick urine test and a culture. My infection was from E. coli which does vie from fecal contamination from yourself or environment. I had four weeks of antibiotics.
4254325 tn?1355663975 I would have them test you for any infection, untreated infections can cause preterm labor.
Avatar f tn Hi, I received unprotected insertive fellatio from a high risk prostitute. I already know my risks of HIV and am planning to get tested after the window period. However, I would like to know about the other STD's I may have picked up. I know that ghonorea and Chlamydia are the most common and I have been experiences a slight burning sensation while urinating.
1079218 tn?1297028844 Okay, I'm beginning to get really upset with my urologist as she doesn't seem to think I should be as fearful as I am or as worried as I am about still having blood in my urine without a UTI or Kidney Infection. This has been going on for years now & she has performed many tests but apparently she doesn't keep very good notes in my file as I'm a US Vet & she's only on staff once a month for a tax write off I think.
Avatar f tn If your Dr is only giving him a dipstick to test urine, it could be time for a new doctor. By the time there is sugar in his urine then he will be having high blood sugar levels (this is dangerous). Please come back and let us how you go. I will try to answer further questions.
728965 tn?1266373645 I have been on Macrobid for about 10 days now for a pretty bad UTI. I did miss a few days, because my work has made it very hard for me to take my medicine, and I am afraid to drink to much water because they won't let me go to the bathroom. I honestly believe their actions haven't helped this at all. It seems like it gets better, and worse. I find that at night it is at it's very worse.
Avatar n tn What's the threshold for white blood cells in the urine for this? If it's >0 or >100ppm or what? Is any count of white blood cells something to look at? I just took a pee test on Friday and am awaiting results so want to know what to question.
Avatar m tn the burning sensation is almost always there and sometimes goes away momentarily when urinating or taking cold showers. I went to a clinic and they did STD and UTI urine tests but were negative. I also used an at home urine dipstick and every color was normal or negative. wondering what this could be? any help is appreciated.
