Diltiazem when to take

Common Questions and Answers about Diltiazem when to take

tiazac

Avatar m tn Although I said not to tolerate Verapamil, a doctor gave me another calcium blocker, Diltiazem, when I had atrial fibrillation. When I came home, I had to decrease the daily dose to half and then stop using it totally. Diltiazem made me weak (possibly low BP or pulse) and the rhythm became very variable. Doctors should be careful when prescribing calcium channel blockers. By the way, my pulse pressure (in sinus rhythm) can vary between 14 and 130. What does this mean? Is this normal?
Avatar f tn I tried Verapamil and it did not agree with me at all. I could handle the fatigue and muscle aches but the chest pain and SOB did me in. Recently I was on Diltiazem for awhile. Was tired a bit, had headaches the first couple of weeks but overall it wasn't a bad med. I can't take beta blockers because of asthma. The Diltiazem was helpful in easing some of my tachy times and got rid of my chest pains.
Avatar f tn My question is could the Diltiazem be causing me to lose weight and has this happened to anyone else? My understanding is Diltiazem causes weight gain not weight loss.
1622431 tn?1299070442 Diltiazem tries its best with SVT, shortens them , but my PACs increased the past two days , every second heart beat is double . Could not tolerate , went to Hospital, they advised to take metoprolol to break the PACs cycle.
177337 tn?1310059899 Like I said, there were communication problems between my cardio and ep. I was only supposed to take it when I had a SVT attack so it makes sense to take it when you have lots of pvc's, and your dose is pretty low. Your body will let you know if it is okay.
Avatar m tn Sorry, that was 30mg every 6 hours, changed to 60mg every 6 hours by my doctor.
Avatar n tn I looked up calcium channel blockers and found: •Diltiazem (Cardizem LA, Tiazac), thus I conclude we are taking basically the same thing. I went to Diltiazem to get the lower cost, and also lost the slow acting, thus I have to take my mediation twice a day. I can't remember if the change also relates to the loss of swelling in my ankle, but as said I no longer have that side effect and I continue to take Diltiazem twice a day.
Avatar m tn I take Metoprolol for a thick heart muscel & pvc, which it doesn't help much with the pvc's, Diltiazem was just added 120mg once a day. My doctor seemed somewhat reluctant to add the Diltiazem but said lets try it. My Blood pressure has been around 155/95. His reluctance just seems to scare me. Should I try it or should I not? If I do start taking it should I take it with the metoprolol or at different times?

Avatar f tn I just really don't want to take the diltiazem. The doc said it's not any more potent than metoprolol, but I hear all the negative comments about it and 120mg a day seems a bit high. And if it won't keep my heart rate down then it won't be of use anyway. The fear of rapid heart beat is there, even though I know it probably isn't dangerous, it's a bit unnerving. And even if I'm totally relaxed, the last few times I tried to have sex, I could not keep an erection.
Avatar n tn Hi Guys...Currently I take 360mg DR of Diltiazem once daily...I worry that since sometimes I forget as to whether I have taken my pill or not due to a fast paced life / career. My question is...If I were to accidentally take a double dose of the stuff would I end up kicking the bucket?
1689583 tn?1387752394 It depends on what medication you're taking. I take diltiazem, although I take it for esophageal spasm. I don't have high blood pressure. I had to reduce the dose while in a study for a similar medication (PI). PIs can increase the amount of blood pressure medication in you if you take a calcium channel blocker like diltiazem.
Avatar m tn I have suffered with taking diltiazem(180 mg ER) AND metoprolol (50 mg ER) for atril fibrillation for the past two and a half years. The side effects have been debilitating.. Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu.
996946 tn?1503249112 I have to take my dog Barney back to the Vet for a recheck in an hour. He's on Vetmedin, 5mg...Enalapril, 10mg...furosemide (lasix) 40 mg, and Diltiazem 40mg. His coughing has not improved. I'm wondering if he really needs the Vetmedin or the Diltiazem? I know his HR seems normal now but because of having heartworms a few yrs ago, he has the residual side effect of CHF. I just hate giving him so many meds and he's not getting better! Any quick suggestions?
Avatar f tn Looking to safely taper off of my calcium channel blocker diltiazem extended release capsules. I have been on them a little over one year. My blood pressure is perfect and was perfect prior to my heart surgery. The only reason I am on them is because I had a large tumor in my heart and once I had my open heart surgery I developed post-op SVT, afib, a-flutter and my heart rate has skyrocketed over 200 beats per minute several times.
Avatar n tn It is up to the doctor. I'm not sure why you would take both verapamil and diltiazem since they are both CCB's. I'm going to assume the doctor is prescribing this and you're not just going to find the med and add it yourself. Ask the doctor about how the medications work and why you need both.
Avatar f tn the dr wanted me to go on the coreg to stqaqblize things but i called and told him i was scared too becauser things are low right now and thats when he told me to take it as needed,,,,,,the pharmaisists says u have to take it regulary
Avatar m tn I've had those tingling sensations in my chest, hands, abdomen, and feet (it moves around) but they appear to be related to taking Calcium blockers for blood pressure. I've been to the doctor and examined repeatedly. There's nothing wrong, despite the sensations (as long as they're not clearly painful). I'm taking Diltiazem and it works like gangbusters for me. I may go get examined by a neurologist but there have been no harmful effects, in my life, from the tingling.
Avatar f tn I dont know how to add to my thread but will i dose of verapamil cause you to get pains in your shoulder joint my right arm just started hurting when i lift it up or take a deep breath i ddint do anything to hurt it,,my dr statred me out on 120 mg, sr im kinda scared and i feel confusion but that could be from the ativas or risperdal that im on an i have been having intense dizzinss but had that before the verpamil,,is this a good drug what are the common side efffects
Avatar f tn I take diltiazen and want to stop taking RX med and replace with herbal and natural alternative. I do not have high blood pressure.
Avatar f tn By 4 a.m when I took my dog out I decided to check bp. It was 190/106 heartrate 83. I take my meds at 5:30 a.m. so laid back down and retook bp before I took meds. It was 140/85. I assumed the elevation had been from the pain so took meds and went to sleep. Took bp when I got up at 9:30 and was 174/97. I called my electrophysiologist. The dr on call for him told me to take the other 180 mg at that time and go back.to the 360 mg tomorrow like I used to take.
Avatar n tn experienced doctor in a facility that does the procedure every day. Experience/practice is a key factor to consider when selecting where to go. I also take into consideration "in-network" qualifications for my insurance company. All of these procedures are expensive.
