Common Questions and Answers about Dilantin with tube feeding

Avatar f tn He has to be awakened to continue feeding and one of the nurses mentioned that she was going to speak with the doctor about a feeding tube. My daughter-in-law is scared. The only experience I have had with feeding tubes is when a patient is in hospice or critically ill. Is this routine with premature babies? Should we be concerned?

469150 tn?1340228600 I have undergone many different 8 week periods of time with nasal tube feeding. I would recommend it if you're not eating, as it's a good way to gain weight and therefore your strength and help your body to battle the disease. Despite it's superficial drawbacks it really is worth doing if you can't get any food down you. It's quick and easy and the actual tube isn't too uncomfortable at all if you tape it properly!

Avatar f tn My Dad has been on a feeding tube for almost a year. He had esophagus cancer and they removed it and he is now cancer free. My question is why he is so tired all the time ? and what kind of quality of life he can have? He does not have much interest in the things he used to enjoy. It makes me very sad to hear him like this. He lives in another state, so I do not get to see him.
Avatar f tn My son came home at 5 mos old 22 hours a day on g-tube feeding - weaned off within 4 months. My daughter, adopted at 3, is just now at almost 10 years old being weaned off tube feedings (1/3 of large bowel removed). It can be a slow process. I'm looking for direction myself.....it's just between me weighing them as I wean them to oral feeding........
Avatar f tn I just logged on. No experience there, but malnutrition is such a problem. I hope Hector logs on soon. There are many good people on this site.
Avatar f tn I live 2 1/2 hours away from the hospital. They are talking about putting a feeding tube in him. He has his sucking ability down but for some reason won't eat. Has anyone ever had this happen? And what was the outcome?
Avatar m tn My cat refuses and gags when I present her with any food and am currently feeding her with a 3ml syringe, which is averaging about 20 ml a day. A little over two weeks ago a boxspring fell on my 13 year old cat, Princesse. She was rushed her to the emergency cat care clinic, which was all too far away. The impact of the injury was unfortuately centered on her little cat head.

Avatar n tn I use the Farrell Valve bags for my son to aid with his venting while feeding via G-Tube and it has worked out well for him. It works out even better when hes destended or sick (Rare, Thank god) But in between my venting him with the large syringe I can just keep him hooked up to the Farrell Valve and he vents with that too. Feel free to messege me with any questions you may have.
Avatar n tn When he was dicharged from the hospital with his feeding tube, he was put on Pedisure with fiber enternal formula, 4 - 8oz cans per drip overnite. 2years later he went for another surgery to repair his hyatel hernia, they did a nissen fundalupcation. Then he had to learn to eat all over again, this has been a struggle for him.
10917657 tn?1413985780 Just wanted to announce that Lucy had her feeding tube removed today and she is good as new. Thanks again to everyone who provided so much support during this ordeal!
Avatar n tn It seems like it would only be checked if there is suspicion of malpositioning or clogging of the tube. Crushed pills should never go through a jejunal tube. The pts meds should be switched to liquid form.
5624800 tn?1371656178 If you think this is from being hungry, you might have the vet teach you the method for safely tube feeding. It gets them a lot of food much more quickly than bottle feeding.
Avatar n tn Parents took him to the doctor and he was admitted to hosp and feeding tube put in. The diagnosis they are coming up with is Adversion to Food. Just how does a baby develope that and what can be done?
Avatar f tn My doctors finally agreed that I need a feeding tube, but the problem is I've been kind of obsessed with them for 4 years now prior to my current issues. I have a lot of GI issues and a lot of sensory issues with food. I prefer blended and pureed food and liquids. However with MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome), most of the foods I like to have are high histamines.
Avatar n tn re that little) a feeding tube, and formula. When you tube feed, you take the feeding tube and hold it along the outside of the puppy so that the tip of the tube touches the puppy's side right in the flank area. You then mark the tube where it touches the puppy's muzzle. Normally you will have about a 5 or 6" length of tube marked off for newborn puppies, but giant breeds, of course, will be larger.
Avatar m tn They said she was having seizures based on her low Dilantin levels. The gave her two injections of Dilantin, she seemed fine and they sent her home. Now she seems fine again, although a little weak, dizzy, and tired, but pretty good for having three back to back episodes. We went to a follow up appointment with her general doctor on Monday. He again insisted it was related to her cholesterol.
Avatar n tn eventually she works up to 60ml consistently on her feeding while they still force another 30-35 with the ng tube..the antibiotic course they had run on her for seven days was all well and done..she went consistently taking 60 ml a feeding and did it 6 of 8 feeding..then abruptly @ day 11 she began to vomit 3 feedings up in a row..they then put her under a battery of test for lower gi upper gi AND find nothing except she had poop not impacted in her but plenty to say hmm..
Avatar n tn I do not know if this is the case with your grandson because you did not state how long he has been on tube feed. Night time feeding and behavior modifications helps the most to increase eating during the day.
Avatar f tn does anyone here have a child with a feeding tube ? please reply fast !!!
