I've been told also that prolonged use of Dilantin to control seizures will effect the Cerebellum - No ones told how severe - But a Nuerologist has strongly suggested I get off it and use another anti-convulsant - I've been seizere free since I was 14 and I'm now 52 and am very reluctant to start all over again - Any help would be greatly appreciated - They say the Cerebellum may shrink and one thing that is effected is balance what else I don't know?

Does prednisone effect dilantin and lamictal levels? I've been on dilantin and lamictal for over 5 years for seizures. I'm being tested for autoimmune hepatitis, I just had a liver biopsy. I don't want to take a chance on having a seizure.

Does anyone know what can cause Dilantin levels to be too low after taking correct dosage? My levels have been around 3.2 and I take the correct dosage my doctor prescribed of 400 MG a day. 200 in the morning and 200 at night. My doctor thinks I am not taking my Dilantin and I cannot convince him otherwise!!! I don't know what to do or where to find any information about it. Would appreciate any information, please.
Several years later he developed a rash (not hives) all over his body and started having odd muscle movements also envolving his entire body. The neurologist told me that he had developed an allergy to Dilantin and to never use it again as a treatment. We discontinued the Dilantin while he was in the hospital while introducing a different medication. Sorry it was years ago and I can't recall what the med was. My son has generalized seizures that present as Gran Mals.

If the seizures are still happening from after the ER visit GO BACK!! Prolonged seizing can cause brain damage from lack of oxygen, heart failure, etc. A lot of times they use valium and lorazepam to control seizures. But you would also need an anti seizure medication possibly like tegretol or dilantin and that should be given in an ER!! Obviously stopping the coke will help as you know. But something else is going on besides withdrawal from the coke-IMO.
3 and they gave him a loading dose of 500mg. PO of dilantin, and 500mg. IV Dilantin. He is very regimented taking his Dilantin and does not miss doses.

We were being seen by a Neurologist, but she abruptly cancelled my husbands January appt. and said she was leaving town for a month, and did not refer us to any other Dr. so we saw the family Dr. who is prescribing.
My husband was recently diagosed with glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer. The neurosurgeon put him on Dilantin "for life." He isn't even going to check blood levels. My husband has not had any seizures. Does this seem appropriate?

I am on 500mg Dilantin daily as a seizure maintenance drug which works fine. I'm also on 100mg topomax daily as a migraine maintenance drug. I've run out of my Dilantin and want to know how many topomax would be the equivalent temporary substitution for Dilantin?
