dilantin overdose long term effects

i recently got out of the hospital because of a dilantin overdose i'm still experiencing tremos and a loss of balance,i still can't think quite as fast before this happened.

My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this? I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.

they had to give him 3 shots of morphine at the hospital to get him calmed down he was in so much pain....is there any long term side effects that might come up because of this....if there is a site to go to please send me the site....one other question...could this have killed or hurt him seriously.....

I've been taking Dilantin for sleep seizures for 43 years. No problems before, but recently I'm having trouble making any decisions and I'm getting scatter-brained. What are the long-term effects of Dilantin?

s admitted that some of them cause him to haullucinate. I worried about the long term effects to his brain when we do get him off these.

I have never taken over the prescribed 150 mg of Effexor, but am curious about the effects you're having at 300mg?

I wanted to switch, but nothing else works. Long term effects of Dilantin are not good. At 45 I have osteoporosis, possible shrinkage of the cerebellum, some balance issues (which is controlled by Cerebellum) and experiencing memory loss - we're still trying to figure out if this is stress or side effects of Dilantin. Please speak to your neuro about the long term effects of Dilantin - these are all well known and documented. Hang in there and hope things work out for you. Keep me posted.

issue with dilantin is the long term side effects....causes teeth problems GI issues and a list of others.......best of luck and If I can please let me know I will ghive the advice from my own personal experiences if they seem to meet what you are saying....

BUT, I have to take it or I am in pain. So try not to worry so much about the long term effects when you are trying to survive today. If you are worried about this I would talk to my doctor and let them know what you are experiencing and there may be something they can do differently. Just dont stop any seizure med without a doctors help. Hope you feel better..

I'm not familiar with Tegretol.But as an epileptic,I took Dilantin for 32 yrs~~~way too long! Can't remember all the side effects;but do remember you have to have a CBC every 6 monthes due to the possible risk of leukemia.The main reason the neuro got me off of it was that Dilantin leaks into your body,building up in your organs.Wishing you the best in finding relief from nerve pain!

s the short term side effects you should be more worried about than the long term. Are there any long term side effects listed on the PIL? If any of those are the same as the long term side effects of drinking, I can only guess that it increases your chances of having them seeing as it'll be a double whammy.

Hello, I have a long history of depression and anxiety issues. Back in 2006 I got really low and took an overdose of my antidepressant-Effexor and Olanzipine, I cant recall the exact quantities I took but it was about 8 capsules of Effexor (75mg) and a couple of Olanzipine (5mg). I seemed to 'pull through' this incident fairly well, but for the now I am wondering what kind of long term damage I could've done to my system, as most of the time I never really feel that healthy.
