dilantin joint pain

I am having severe joint pain in all of my joints but especially in my feet, ankles, knees, and back. My problems started last week with muscle fatigue, feeling out of breath and low energy. Two days ago I developed a fever (about 101) and the joint pain started. The fever has subsided but now I can barely walk and it is extremely painful. Ice and ibuprofen help some...but not enough. After sleep last night, the pain was reduced but returned when I tried to walk again.

I was taking eppanutin for 20years no side effects always stayed on same med never had to change. Your GP will make changes if you are not happy or having side effects.

My neurosurgeon has me changing from neurontin to dilantin and I think the dilantin may be helping; my pain level has decreased yesterday and today. I will see him again on July 7 and hopefully I will be able to report a good response to the dilantin. If the drugs do not work then he wants to try injection of glycerol. I will post again after my next visit with my neurosurgeon.

You need to do exercises involving your upper spine, scapula, shoulder joint and arms. Apply ice on the shoulder joint 2-3 times a day for 15-20 minutes each time. new neuro weaning me to keppra, not sure if i like it.. but said dilantin was causing side effects (chest pain,, kidney probs) i'm starting to wonder if age is a factor, I'm 44, or perry menopause? even though my gyno says my hormone levels are not consistant with menopause..

i have been on dilantin for over 25 years . i to have very bad mood swings and i just cant take any stress at all . my neuro is taking me off dilantin slowly. i take 400mg daily . my neuro told me dilantin will cause mood swings and cause me to be irritable and was hard on your body after being on them so long. i have started keppra and dropping 1 dilantin a month . i was told my moods will improve and i will start to think more clearly.

can 20 years on dilantin after one seizure, then a stroke with no speech, cause terrible sideeffects?

We were being seen by a Neurologist, but she abruptly cancelled my husbands January appt. and said she was leaving town for a month, and did not refer us to any other Dr. so we saw the family Dr. who is prescribing.

My husband was recently diagosed with glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer. The neurosurgeon put him on Dilantin "for life." He isn't even going to check blood levels. My husband has not had any seizures. Does this seem appropriate?

From my experience no but people do grow out of it if they are lucky enough our healed from it. I was on Dilantin, Phenobarbital and Lamictal three years ago. My Dr took me off of Dilantin and no more problems. I was on Dilantin over twenty years and i was scared. Let me know what happens because depending on your dosage you would be off of it or almost by now. I wish you the best.
