Avatar f tn She told me that there was nothing she could do for me. I have been in the Emergency room many many times hoping for relief. I thought at one time Allegra had been my life saver, however it wasnt. I get medical help through my indian tribe, but what they dont carry in their pharmacy you cant get without paying out of pocket. I cannot afford an allergy test. they cost anywhere from $400-1500.I have ruled out everything I can even going without coffee.
Avatar m tn Since she still has the clot, it would seem normal to still have regular monitoring, and I am not sure why the medication was stopped - was that the doctor, or for other reasons, that it was ceased? Dilantin is to prevent seizures - but what about the clot?
542332 tn?1214592336 My neurosurgeon has me changing from neurontin to dilantin and I think the dilantin may be helping; my pain level has decreased yesterday and today. I will see him again on July 7 and hopefully I will be able to report a good response to the dilantin. If the drugs do not work then he wants to try injection of glycerol. I will post again after my next visit with my neurosurgeon.
Avatar f tn Hi, my name's Rico. I was in the USAF for 20 years (1981 - 2001); however, I was diagnosed with MS close to the start of my 19th year in the Air Force. Anyway, 4-months after being diagnosed, I was walking around the neighborhood with my wife and daughter. Then, out of nowhere, both my knees buckled at the same time.
Avatar m tn I started having seizures when I was 12 yrs. and they put me on dilantin and other meds. they never got under control so good until I went to a new doctor (because I moved) and at that time I was about 38, and the doctor did a MRI and other test. He then said to me the first thing we have to do is get you off of dilantin. He showed me that that pill was eating up half of my brain (it is called cerebellar atrophy). He slowly put me on different levels of Keppra and I haven't been better.
Avatar f tn Had siezures once per week at night and was semi aware of seizure as it started, then unconcious and would wake up breathing rapidly and confused. Have been on dilantin since then and it has controlled seizures for over 30 years. Over the yaers I would have problems with severe muscle contortions and spasms of my right leg. Nearly 100% of the time it would bother me at night only, last for about a week as it tapered off. This would happen at most once a year.
Avatar m tn Chest pain would not be due to the bleed in the brain, and investigation for cardiac causes of the chest pain is indicated. Only after cardiac causes are excluded could the chest pain be attributed to, for example, anxiety.
Avatar f tn I have no idea if you can. I really think this is a question for your doctor.
Avatar f tn i can only take ibuprofen , but my level as of llast week was 10. i have took dilantin for many years and this problem has just started for me to. im trying to get my level to stay normal to. i will check out the site that becky found to.
Avatar f tn There's a bunch of pain relieving medications without Tylenol, so I'll give you a pretty big list, but keep in mind that some of them might be completely inappropriate for whatever pain it is you've got. Your physician will know which one might work best for you. Opiates like codeine (hydrocodone and oxycodone) are usually compounded with another medicine, like the acetaminophen you mentioned, but also with aspirin.
Avatar n tn I had a craniotomy in March due to an acute subdural hematoma (slip & fall). All the stars were aligned and I was able to receive medical care pretty quickly. Apparently, I am quite lucky to be here, and my neurosurgeon has my undying love! That being said, there are a few questions I had that I didn't think to ask him during my last visit, and my next one isn't for weeks. He has me weaning off the Dilantin (hooray-that's nasty stuff!).
Avatar m tn m really sorry for anyone who has been on dilantin, but especially for those who have been on it for years. Wish docs would more easily acknowledge the long term impacts of all seizure meds.
Avatar f tn Dilantin Withdrawal Symptoms The most significant Dilantin withdrawal symptom is a seizure. Suddenly stopping Dilantin can increase your risk of seizures These seizures can be especially severe and very difficult to control. Anxiety, sleeplessness, feeling cold, anger, seeing dead people in sleep, nausea, little appetite, shakineness are usually not due to the withdrawl of dilantin.Reduce your dose gradually to avoid seizures. Avatar f tn I DESPERATLEY need some advice for my CHRONIC PAIN!!!!!! I have been in the ER 4 times in the last 2 years due to suicide attempts from my pain. It started 2 years ago, it's not everyday but probably about 6 days out of a week. It is a burning and stabbing pain that radiates in my right eye, right side of my face, and goes into into my right arm and the right side of my back. I have been seeing a Neurologist for over a year and he has tried me on Lyrica and Amitriptyline with no help.
Avatar m tn When first diagnosed she was entered into a UCSF pain management study and the pain killer cocktail that worked for her combined Methadone, Notriptyline, and Dilantin. After some warm water pool therapy she was able to walk again and has been doing well for the past 18 years. This past June, she started getting dizzy. Her doctor gave her some anti-dizzy medicine and said she probably had an inner-ear infection.
Avatar n tn I was on Dilantin for many of my childhood years and it really wrecked my teeth!! Made the gums grow so huge, pushing my teeth so far out of line that some got removed. When I stopped taking Dilantin, my gums dropped down to the proper size, but it left my teeth sticking up, exposing the roots! Too often, doctors don't tell you about the side effects that you'll have to live with! They're only there to find something to control the seizures.
7486852 tn?1410352184 Seizures, RLS, Depression and Anxiety. Keep fighting for social security even if it is a pain in the butt. I had a tumor from my right temporal lobe which caused all of my problems. I am sorry but I can not give you any insight into keppra or depakote, both of them did not work for me. I believe that I maxed out on keppra. Dilantin worked for about 8 or 9 years before it started to not control mine anymore. I am afraid the only way to see if depakote or any other drug is is just give it a shot.
Avatar n tn 3 and they gave him a loading dose of 500mg. PO of dilantin, and 500mg. IV Dilantin. He is very regimented taking his Dilantin and does not miss doses. And told him to take 400mgs. today. I have a call in to our family Dr. and waiting for a return. We were being seen by a Neurologist, but she abruptly cancelled my husbands January appt. and said she was leaving town for a month, and did not refer us to any other Dr. so we saw the family Dr. who is prescribing.
Avatar m tn I have Trigeminal Neuralgia. I have had MVD surgery on both sides yet it returned on one side. I have been told by several dr's that there is no pain management for it and that surgery to sever the nerve is all that can be done. I am currently highly medicated and struggling to work. Please let me know if any meds anyone has found succesful. I have tried, amitriptylene, neurontin, toradol, dilaudid, dilantin, oxcarbazapine, and more!
Avatar n tn My husband was recently diagosed with glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer. The neurosurgeon put him on Dilantin "for life." He isn't even going to check blood levels. My husband has not had any seizures. Does this seem appropriate?
567677 tn?1246767776 I hope you have found some relief from your pain. I had lightening bolt pain the other night behind my left eye for only 20 seconds and cannot fathom having it any longer than that. It was excruciating. I feel so bad that you are going through this. Shelly is right and that you should let your Doctor know if this is not getting any better. I pray that you get some relief soon. Too bad you couldn't just give this to the ones you don't like.
