Dilantin and xanax

Common Questions and Answers about Dilantin and xanax

dilantin

Avatar n tn I had 2 seizures in April. I did wean myself off the dilantin. Now I want to start weaning off the xanax. I am down to 5 a day now. I saw a psych in the hospital (when I had the seizures) and she told me with being on such a high dose of the xanax it would take at least a year to come off them. So, with that being said I would take my time and come off them slowly. We have already seen what happens when we rush.
Avatar f tn i just started taking dilantin and im 4 weeks late for my peiod and not pregnant
1052703 tn?1266279337 I have had many good years without any panic attacks but have had trouble within the last six months with severe anxiety and panic. I am taking buspar 10mg three times daily and Xanax 10mg as needed within an eight hour period. Should I request an eeg from my doc just to see if there is anything abnormal? Would antiseizure medication be applicable? It seems at lot of anticonvulsants are also used to treat anxiety.
Avatar f tn i started taking dilantin and im late for my period almost 4 weeks.
Avatar n tn I have a TSH of 0.24 and T4 of 1.04. I have been on Dilantin for 30 years. I have been on Thyroid replacement therapy for 18 years with monthly injection of B12. I have had extreme fatigue and chest pains. Seeing neurologist for medicine change and have be referred to endocrinologist. How concerned should I be? What tests should be given? Is this my pituitary gland?
2015036 tn?1332997788 My doctor wanted me to start with the Dilantin first, but then I read that bone-thinning and excess facial hair can be the some of the side effects. (So, I'm going with Tegretol.) I had no idea about the risk of leukemia! Are you okay?
3921209 tn?1348605095 I would recommend consulting your Neurologist. Together, you and your Neurologist can weigh the pros and cons of taking Dilantin or possibly another medication.
Avatar m tn They said she was having seizures based on her low Dilantin levels. The gave her two injections of Dilantin, she seemed fine and they sent her home. Now she seems fine again, although a little weak, dizzy, and tired, but pretty good for having three back to back episodes. We went to a follow up appointment with her general doctor on Monday. He again insisted it was related to her cholesterol.
1345006 tn?1276887850 They said I was detoxed after 7 days and I cannot see how. I know they gave me Subutex, Seroquel, Dilantin, Folic Acid and a whole bunch of other stuff. This was a 28 day deal. I have tried myself a few times but when the withdrawal starts to set in, I go back. I am lost. I have no idea of how to get off of them. I take a significant quantity every day. Even with a 28 day rehab, is 28 days enough? I live alone so if I have any serious effects, there is no one here to help or call anyone.
Avatar f tn Hello Dear, Stopping Dilantin quickly is not recommended. Although Dilantin is not addicting and is not likely to be abused, stopping it too quickly can cause seizures to worsen. Dilantin Withdrawal Symptoms The most significant Dilantin withdrawal symptom is a seizure. Suddenly stopping Dilantin can increase your risk of seizures These seizures can be especially severe and very difficult to control.
Avatar f tn my neuro is taking me off dilantin slowly. i take 400mg daily . my neuro told me dilantin will cause mood swings and cause me to be irritable and was hard on your body after being on them so long. i have started keppra and dropping 1 dilantin a month . i was told my moods will improve and i will start to think more clearly. my neuro told me dilantin does slow your thinking and leaves you in a fog.
Avatar m tn Right now I am actually on Keppra and Topamax and they have both kept me seizure free for over 3+ years and I have no side effects. My memory isn't that great but I'm not sure I can blame the drugs. The two of those as a combo, for me, are wonderful!
Avatar f tn it can also cause nystagmus, signs of cerebellar problems like ataxia. Apart from these it can also cause swollen gums and lips and easy bruising and bleeding. Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn The most recent medication that I was using was Xanax 1 mg twice a day and Zoloft 100 mg. I was on these medications for years. In the past few months I have noticed that these drugs dont help me with my condition and I decided to go cold turkey. I completely stopped taking these medications and it has already been 2 and half months since I took my last dosage. I am still struggling with anxiety which I presume, is connected to my withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar n tn I took 2 old, and 1 new for about a month, then 2 new and 1 old, and am now on 3 new dilantin 100mg. every day. I have been on this for about 2 weeks, and I have not had any problem at all. I do feel kinda nervous about it, though, and never leave home without my medical card in my wallet. (something I never even had to think about with the old dilantin). How about you? Are you on the new capsules? If so, how are you doing?
Avatar n tn 3 and they gave him a loading dose of 500mg. PO of dilantin, and 500mg. IV Dilantin. He is very regimented taking his Dilantin and does not miss doses. And told him to take 400mgs. today. I have a call in to our family Dr. and waiting for a return. We were being seen by a Neurologist, but she abruptly cancelled my husbands January appt. and said she was leaving town for a month, and did not refer us to any other Dr. so we saw the family Dr. who is prescribing.
1224562 tn?1274475633 I have been withdrawing from xanax from home and your right it *****. When you can't sleep get out of the bed and clean out a drawer or cook or anything else that is truely mindless..........the more you try to sleep the more you think about the drug........be careful that you get doctors advice on the withdrawl because I had seizures from going to fast.
Avatar n tn Two meta-analyses (an analytic study combining the results of several clinical trials) done by Sirven, et al (2004) and Tremont-Lukats, et al (2008) showed no benefit to giving anti-epileptic drugs in general, and Dilantin in particular, to patients with brain tumors in order to prevent an initial seizure. Your husband may have an option not to take Dilantin since there's no difference in outcome. You can check out the articles yourself: www.mayoclinicproceedings.
1924139 tn?1322798705 From my experience no but people do grow out of it if they are lucky enough our healed from it. I was on Dilantin, Phenobarbital and Lamictal three years ago. My Dr took me off of Dilantin and no more problems. I was on Dilantin over twenty years and i was scared. Let me know what happens because depending on your dosage you would be off of it or almost by now. I wish you the best.
542332 tn?1214592336 My neurosurgeon has me changing from neurontin to dilantin and I think the dilantin may be helping; my pain level has decreased yesterday and today. I will see him again on July 7 and hopefully I will be able to report a good response to the dilantin. If the drugs do not work then he wants to try injection of glycerol. I will post again after my next visit with my neurosurgeon.
Avatar f tn I am on 500mg Dilantin daily as a seizure maintenance drug which works fine. I'm also on 100mg topomax daily as a migraine maintenance drug. I've run out of my Dilantin and want to know how many topomax would be the equivalent temporary substitution for Dilantin?
Avatar f tn 2 and I take the correct dosage my doctor prescribed of 400 MG a day. 200 in the morning and 200 at night. My doctor thinks I am not taking my Dilantin and I cannot convince him otherwise!!! I don't know what to do or where to find any information about it. Would appreciate any information, please.
