Dilantin and qt interval

Common Questions and Answers about Dilantin and qt interval

Avatar f tn t know anxiety could prolong the QT interval (in my case it shortens it) at my EKG with high anxiety and fairly low heart rate (which is uploaded on my profile) my QT was 330 msec and QTc 358 msec, but I guess people are different. A slightly long QT doesn't mean you have LQTS, which is often seen on EKG as specific changes in addition to the prolonged QT. What I find slightly worrisome (though my concerns means nothing - I'm not a physician) is that Zoloft may prolong QT interval.
Avatar m tn In general, the newer antidepressants (SSRI and SNRI) do not prolong QT interval so much. A possible exception is citalopram (and escitalopram). As far as I know, paroxetine and vortioxetine are fairly safe. How long is your QT interval?
Avatar m tn Everyone have their unique relationship between heart rate and QT interval. People with SQTS (Short QT syndrome) have a fixed QT interval, say, 260 msec regardless of heart rate. If such a person had a heart rate of 200, the formula would show a long QT interval. Which clearly is wrong. My QT interval is somewhat less rate-dependent than what is normal. It really doesn't matter.
1124887 tn?1313754891 However, I would not consider prolongation of the QT interval to 388 ms to be of any clinical significance and would tell one of my patients to not have any anxiety about that change. In regards to QT dispersion. the QT interval varies from lead to lead. The QT interval can vary by up to 65 msec in normal people between leads. The QT dispersion is typically longest in leads V2 and V3. Again, your QT dispersion is well within normal limits.
Avatar m tn I have calculated the J-point to T-peak interval (which I heard is also relevant in diagnosing short QT) and have found that the lowest one is 130ms (+/- 5% error from estimation; estimation should be pretty accurate as I measured on the picture of the ECG digitally; for ex, I calculated QT, and I got 328, 2% off the value the report gave), and on average 150ms. Please let me know about this, as well as if my report is fine overall! Thanks!
Avatar n tn Yes, a well known side effect of the majority of SSRI''s is that they can prolong the QT interval. This does not mean that they will and "prolonging" the QT interval is not the same thing as having a "prolonged QT interval".
Avatar m tn For the second ECG my HR was defiantly elevated as I was worried I would not pass the screening, and the link between HR and QT is well documented. I was accepted on the study but I know that before dosing 3 weeks from now, my QT will be measured again, and I would like to just give myself the best chance of not being excluded.
Avatar n tn my daughter had 2 ekgs and showed a QT interval of 468 with a heart rate of 68. Obviously this is a prolonged qt, but what are the odds that it is Long QT syndrome? If it isn't, what is it???? I can't find any answers. I do know that it is considered a borderline QT interval until it hits 470. If she doesn't get diagnosed with long qt syndrome (cardiology appointment is next week) Does it just mean that she has a long qt interval and nothing else?
Avatar m tn I was told by the nurse their were longer QT interval times. I just had a 24hr monitor done and should get the results back Friday I read that Morphine can cause this. I have been in a Pain Mgmt program for several years due to being hit by a car, and was diagnoised with the Bradycardia 6-7 years ago on a EKG during a physical but my primary did not say their was a problem.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I had an EKG for an upcoming surgery. It came back stating Abnormal results, prolonged QT interval.... QTc >490ms. In my twenties I had 3 to 4 bouts of tachycardia, with a pulse of 190 or more. The hospital did an EKG and found nothing, and I have not had this expierence since ( I am a 47 year old female) My Dr has ordered another EKG for next week but I am wondering what this all means. The statements on the internet about sudden cardiac arrest scare me to death!
Avatar f tn I would also check your EKG to see what the QRS duration is -- often when people have mobitz type I, the QRS is also widened, which would “stretch out” the QT interval -- a prolonged QT in this setting would not be considered a true QT prolongation.
20794198 tn?1534529493 I am baffled as i thought that with the higher heart rates, the QT interval should shorten and vice versa with lower heart rates. Yet mine did the opposite? Is this a case of overcalculation on the ecg's part as my heart rate was over 100?
Avatar m tn ) Your pr and qt values look normal.
Avatar n tn I am guessing you need some that do not prolong the QT interval, as the bradycardia can cause this. There are a variety of websites which list these drugs. But usually most penicillin, cephalosporins are thought to be safe, whereas macrolides, such as erythromycin, azithromycin, are thought not to be. Also the antifungals are also not safe ( all the ones ending in azole). Besides antibiotics there are many other drugs which can also prologue the QT interval which you should be careful with.
Avatar f tn A prolonged QT interval can cause symptoms similar to POTS but is far more dangerous and can cause a cardiac arrest if not treated properly. T wave abnormalities can also be related to a prolonged QT interval. But remember that what is written at the top of the ECG is not always true. It's only a computer interpretation but still needs to be read by a cardiologist and preferrably an Electrophysiologist (heart rhythm specialist).
Avatar f tn The PR interval begins at the onset of the P wave and ends at the onset of the QRS complex. This interval represents the time the impulse takes to reach the ventricles from the sinus node. It is termed the PR interval because the Q wave is frequently absent. Normal values lie between 0.12 and 0.20 seconds. First degree atrioventricular block is diagnosed if the PR interval is greater than 0.20 seconds. The PR interval will gradually increase with the Wenckebach phenomenon.
Avatar n tn address any stomach issues especially acid reflux and gerd and manage stress and anxiety. Unfortunately once we start getting premature beats we are susceptible to always getting them but managing the big triggers can help lessen the impact they have on us. Take care.
Avatar m tn I have found a substantial amount of literature online that discusses how using azithromycin with QT prolonging drugs or other rhythm regulators can increase the QT interval and cause dysrhythmia. This relative was in the hospital before and after surgery due to rhythm problems. It took a while to adjust exercise and meds to balance everything out. More than any other antiobiotic I read up on, azithromycin seems to have the most solid arguments against using it with drugs like amiodarone.
Avatar f tn Every person have their unique relationship between QT interval and heart rate. In some people, QT interval narrows much with increased heart rate and in some people it doesn't.
Avatar f tn I had 2 ekgs a few weeks ago because my doctor was concerned about a long qt interval, but I was nervous so my heart rate was 55 in one and 81 in the other. I have no symptoms. Should I call my doctor? I really appreciate your help.
14991338 tn?1447193706 thats what i thought. But there have been occasions where ive seen my ecg that shows 399 corrected qt for 76bpm, then with a higher heart rate of 92bpm a qt of 419 corrected ? ?
Avatar f tn Long QT Syndrome is normally a lifelong condition. That being said, a prolonged QT interval can be caused by medication or electrolyte abnormalities, even in healthy individuals without Long QT Syndrome. Additionally, some individuals with Long QT Syndrome don't have a consistently prolonged QT interval. It's possible to have a occasional normal EKG, and still have Long QT Syndrome.
