My problems started last week with muscle fatigue, feeling out of breath and low energy. Two days ago I developed a fever (about 101) and the joint pain started. The fever has subsided but now I can barely walk and it is extremely painful. Ice and ibuprofen help some...but not enough. After sleep last night, the pain was reduced but returned when I tried to walk again. I also started taking Dilatin for sizures 2 weeks ago (400 mg/day). Plan on going to the VA tomorrow after Mothers Day.
I was 26 when I first started having constant pain in my neck and shoulder and had had occasional pain earlier that was never taken seriously.
The only thing I could recommend might be to see a Pain Management doctor. They work on treating the pain in different ways, not just surgically and not just with pain meds (usually).
Either than or seeing the doctor who was able to see the joint problem about what they can do, if anything, for you.
Now already had passed period of 2 mths since brain surgery, and 1 mth stop medication,
But she still feel symptoms of light headache (dizzy, could not walk/stand too long, stiff at neck, eye feel tired, sometime have chest slight pain move around different area), and recently got feel her eyeball keep move around and eye feel tired, also always have dreams as mentioned above.

i started taking dilantin and im late for my period almost 4 weeks.
I have a TSH of 0.24 and T4 of 1.04. I have been on Dilantin for 30 years. I have been on Thyroid replacement therapy for 18 years with monthly injection of B12. I have had extreme fatigue and chest pains. Seeing neurologist for medicine change and have be referred to endocrinologist. How concerned should I be? What tests should be given? Is this my pituitary gland?

Chronic drinking may decrease phenytoin availability, significantly reducing the patient's protection against epileptic seizures, even during a period of abstinence. Any form of alcohol, even beer is contraindicated for some time when you are weaned off dilantin.

Pain killers helped to release pain from right shoulder but left head pain which spread over to my face and upper neck and left jaw ( pain in teeth as if i have taken something very cold/hot) stayed little longer.
Then next day on 21st I contacted Ortho specialist for any possibility of joint pain problems.
My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this?
I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.

Stopping Dilantin quickly is not recommended. Although Dilantin is not addicting and is not likely to be abused, stopping it too quickly can cause seizures to worsen.
Dilantin Withdrawal Symptoms
The most significant Dilantin withdrawal symptom is a seizure. Suddenly stopping Dilantin can increase your risk of seizures These seizures can be especially severe and very difficult to control.
my neuro is taking me off dilantin slowly. i take 400mg daily . my neuro told me dilantin will cause mood swings and cause me to be irritable and was hard on your body after being on them so long. i have started keppra and dropping 1 dilantin a month . i was told my moods will improve and i will start to think more clearly. my neuro told me dilantin does slow your thinking and leaves you in a fog.
When first diagnosed she was entered into a UCSF pain management study and the pain killer cocktail that worked for her combined Methadone, Notriptyline, and Dilantin. After some warm water pool therapy she was able to walk again and has been doing well for the past 18 years.
This past June, she started getting dizzy. Her doctor gave her some anti-dizzy medicine and said she probably had an inner-ear infection.
I took 2 old, and 1 new for about a month, then 2 new and 1 old, and am now on 3 new dilantin 100mg. every day. I have been on this for about 2 weeks, and I have not had any problem at all. I do feel kinda nervous about it, though, and never leave home without my medical card in my wallet. (something I never even had to think about with the old dilantin). How about you? Are you on the new capsules? If so, how are you doing?
