Avatar m tn My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this? I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.

My sexual desire remains but my ability to act on it is nil. My wife deserves better than Iam currently able to give her. I was wondering if there is something that I could do or take that would remedy this situation. I have tried many enhancers but to no avail. I would welcome any suggestions or advice. Thankyou.
Avatar m tn Local causes like tooth infections, tooth abscess or periodontal disease. Some medications like dilantin and calcium channel blockers like nifedipine can cause bad breath. It is more common in smokers, in people with poor dental hygiene, with vitamin deficiencies and is known to be associated with systemic disorders like liver disease. You will need to consult your dentist who will examine you and determine the cause so that appropriate therapy can be initiated.

Avatar f tn Took my mother to the dentist finally since she had refused to go for several years and since shes been having problems with loose tooth and was a problem that needed to be addressed prior to spinal surgery. Dentist diagnosed her with severe gum disease that was causing bone loss and said most of the tooth has to be extracted eventually or they'll fall out. Cause may be cause of smoking (which she quit) or braces that she had at a late age.

1808278 tn?1338484942 I watched South Pacific last night and just could not stop crying. These years of taking Dilantin and Vimpat have seriously impacted my marriage, and i just cannot get hub to speak to me in the voice I am accustomed to hearing. He is sooooo impatient! So demanding! So judgmental! We married when I was already a head injured person: if I divorce, I will get half of what we/he has, but that is not the deal I signed on for. I love him and am also very dependent on him.

2015036 tn?1332997788 My doctor wanted me to start with the Dilantin first, but then I read that bone-thinning and excess facial hair can be the some of the side effects. (So, I'm going with Tegretol.) I had no idea about the risk of leukemia! Are you okay?
Avatar m tn They said she was having seizures based on her low Dilantin levels. The gave her two injections of Dilantin, she seemed fine and they sent her home. Now she seems fine again, although a little weak, dizzy, and tired, but pretty good for having three back to back episodes. We went to a follow up appointment with her general doctor on Monday. He again insisted it was related to her cholesterol.

Avatar m tn m male and I was the receiver. After the event, I learned that she has gum disease and it bleeds frequently. I don't know whether it was bleeding or not during the event. What is the risk of HIV transmission? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Mom told them about some situations that occurred and they put me on regular dilantin, tegretol and 10mg of valium. Sure I still slept alot, but I knew when I was going to sleep. Like the Doctor said you have the weigh the good with the bad. When the meds stops the seizures, she'll come around. I did. I hope this helps!!!.... Your Friend!
Avatar m tn Its possible that previous history of gum disease could have caused the recession and now the gum disease is no longer present but a dental cleaning is almost always advised on a routine basis to maintain healthy gums. A dental cleaning should remove any irritants and allow the gums to heal. If they're healthy already, there should be no problem.
