dilantin

7486852 tn?1410352184 My new neurologist wants me to try depakote after keppra, dilantin, and dilantin and topamax together have failed. They did not control my seizures and I had horrible side effects. I have been using my medical marijuana which my neurologist never had anything bad to say about it just wants me to try another pill as well. I'm worried about the side effects and whether they will work when these others haven't..
Avatar n tn I have a TSH of 0.24 and T4 of 1.04. I have been on Dilantin for 30 years. I have been on Thyroid replacement therapy for 18 years with monthly injection of B12. I have had extreme fatigue and chest pains. Seeing neurologist for medicine change and have be referred to endocrinologist. How concerned should I be? What tests should be given? Is this my pituitary gland?
959034 tn?1253671476 I am 22 years old and I was diagnosed with epilepsy since I was about 5 years old. They told my mom I had 6 days to live when I was born because I had a tumor on my brain. I had brain surgery when I was a baby. Since then I've had 5 brain surgeries my last one was when I was 11 years old. I had a seizure on the operating table and was paralyzed on my right side. So whenever I have a seizure I go paralyzed on my right side and it takes me about 3 minutes to talk again.
Avatar n tn I am taking teg, dilantin and depakote to control two types of seizures. I never sleep accept during the day, on and off. Hang in there! I believe you!
Avatar f tn If you were crazy enough that a few beers would make you go nuts you would be on a stronger does of Depakote and/or you would be an alcholic in which case the Depakote and beer isn't the issue..
Avatar f tn (sorry I know I spelled them all wrong) but oh well.. I take depakote now and have for a long time now.. But due to the side effects of that like the weight control issuess, liver, and birth defects it can cause I want to go off but nervous as I have not had a seizure in more then a decade now and hesitant to chance it, just don't like the side effects of depakote!!!!

Avatar n tn for over a week now but still feel depressed and suffering side effects from the depakote such as hot flashes, diarrhea and chapped lips. It feels like the depakote is blocking the nardil as the nardil has always worked immediately for me in the past. Any suggestions?
501086 tn?1210123831 dilantin, depakote, tegretol, even pheynobabrital...and now Lamictal, for the past two years. Of all the many meds I have taken, Lamictal has produced the least side effects. No sleepiness, no weight gain, ( that I can attribute to my meds anyway..ahem) and no englargement of the gums. In short I would say from my personal experience it's the best anti-seizure med out there. I only take 200mg a day, so it may be different for others who take a higher or lower dosage.
Avatar m tn Iam male and I have been experienceing sexual Dysfunction for quite sometime now. I take valproic acid and dilantin to control my epilepsy. My sexual desire remains but my ability to act on it is nil. My wife deserves better than Iam currently able to give her. I was wondering if there is something that I could do or take that would remedy this situation. I have tried many enhancers but to no avail. I would welcome any suggestions or advice. Thankyou.
Avatar n tn 4 of his seizures occurred in the morning and 2 in the afternoon - 1 while relaxing and one while playing basketball. He has been seizure-free for 3 yrs. on Depakote ER. The Dr. wants to try weaning him this summer, before he starts driving. My son and the rest of the family are extremely apprehensive about this. Dr. says if he has one seizure, he goes back on the med. for life. Only possible side-effect he has is fatigue, but not sure this is due to med.
Avatar f tn Several years later he developed a rash (not hives) all over his body and started having odd muscle movements also envolving his entire body. The neurologist told me that he had developed an allergy to Dilantin and to never use it again as a treatment. We discontinued the Dilantin while he was in the hospital while introducing a different medication. Sorry it was years ago and I can't recall what the med was. My son has generalized seizures that present as Gran Mals.
Avatar m tn I suffer from constant pain - pain specialists here have tried injections - burning the nerve, botox and every possible drug - Lyrica, indomethacin, neurontin, dilantin, elavil - opiates make it worse (trileptal was the only one that helped but lowered my sodium to 118 within 48 hours at just 300 mgs a day) 3 neurologists have suggested just living life out on klonopin but i refuse (high gaba covers the pain - ironic - depakote and tomomax make it worse.
363110 tn?1340920419 I'm wanting to go for baby #3 but am on Dilantin 100mg 3x a day for seizures and right now insurance is a bust....literally I'm expected to pay over $1300 per month for insurance before they'll cover anything and we can't afford that at all. I know that with pregnancy seizures can increase in about %30 of women and I've done research and found another med that can be safer...
Avatar f tn Hi, My boyfriend had his first tonic clonic seizure at 29 years old. It happened at 4:30am. He had no recollection of it, he went to the ER, they gave him a series of blood tests and a cat scan and everything came up normal. He was referred to a neurologist who suggested an MRI and EEG. Unfortunately, he has no med insurance and couldn't get the tests without paying up front. 1 month later he had another one.
Avatar m tn m scared to talk with anyone about them. The plan with the doctor is to get off and see what happens and possibly switch to depakote. any insights?? thank you again.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I'm new to this community. My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this? I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.
222267 tn?1253302210 Yes there could be an effect and certainly an interaction with your current medications. Make sure the oral surgeon and all doctors involved are aware of your full prescription regimen and go through any potential interactions as well as voicing your concern of any of them worsening mania or depression.
Avatar n tn The neurologist figured the Topamax just was not working and then put him on Keppra. (He was still taking 1 dilantin and weaned off that dilantin just before going on Keppra) I had him wean off the Topamax really slow, much slower than the neurologist wanted at first but neuro. gave us his ok to wean off slow. He also weaned on Keppra at a slow dosage. The Keppra worked ok and then he had a few other seizures, one he actually ended up w/ a compression fracture in his back.
Avatar f tn i just started taking dilantin and im 4 weeks late for my peiod and not pregnant
Avatar n tn Well I myself take depakote as well for seizures as a kid, I know that asprin cannot be taken with depakote, not sure if it causes the seizures tho or if it just has an interaction!! And as far as video games it says all over the games and systems that epileptics should use caution because it can cause seizures. Especially with the prolonged time that you spent playing!!! Does he have regular seizures in general? Has he been an epileptic long??
Avatar f tn I just wrote a post about tremors, but I had to talk more. As far as most of you know I have been very sick since September. I started being taken off of huge doses of Depakote, & Dilantin, & 1/2 the dose I was on (abilify)... Plus they cut my Cymbalta 1/2 way. Well, after Christmas I was on the withdrawls, this process has taken 9 months to get there. After the holidays I started losing weight with just going off those meds. At this point I am steadily getting lighter.
Avatar f tn i started taking dilantin and im late for my period almost 4 weeks.
