Avatar n tn The link below your post goes to a doctor's explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar n tn The abnormals are mitral valve leaflets thickened, aortic vavlular sclerosis, diastolic transmitral e/a ratio decreased suggesting diastolic relaxation impairment, mild mr and mild tr present I am 39 with a history of tachycardia. I am currently taking digoxin 250mcg twice a day. Even with that my heart rate is still in the high 90's resting. I have low blood pressure, Digoxin has been the only medicine that hasn't dropped my blood pressure lower.
Avatar f tn I had a cardia ablation for atrial flutter on March 26. Supposedly it was a success, and I remained on 150mg daily of toprol xr and 1 tablet daily of digoxin.nwith that my pulse remained at rest between 57-65bpm with a high of 70bpm. I have short periods of feeling my heart race but it always reverts back and it's just a few seconds. But today it did not go back, shot up to 107bpm briefly and has slowly increases from 91bpm to 95bpm.
Avatar f tn I am taking Digoxin for tachycardia--my cardiologist says that while there aren't good studies available for cardiac meds while pregnant Digoxin is believed to be safe. It is not a betablocker, however the dr felt the digoxin would be safer than a betablocker while preggo. Also the changes in your blood volume while pregnant may correct the tachycardia.
Avatar f tn Both my father and grandfather past away due to complications with ventricular tachycardia and because they have both passed i don't know at what age their symptoms started. I had an EKG that showed flattened t waves and a echocardiogram that showed no plague in my arterias and wel basically a completly healthy heart. I had a complete health panel and my thyroid, cholestoral, electrolydes and potassium are normal.
1048253 tn?1253686663 hi im a 20 year old female with sinus tachycardia my heart rate gets up to about 130 to 190 bpm depending on how weird my heart wants to go ive had a holter and echo bloods a stress test done all were normal all showed sinus tachy. the stress test only showed my heart went higher than other people my age when i exercise thats it .
Avatar m tn How rare is it to have both supraventricular tachycardia and ventricular tachycardia. I had an ablation for the ventricular tachycardia but it appeared that I have supraventricular tachycardia. My doctor didn't tell me I had supraventricular tachycardia but when I was given the report I saw that I was diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia and my ventricular tachycardia was gone.
Avatar f tn However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
378273 tn?1262097621 Atrial Fibrillation with “RVR (rapid ventricular response) this means that the ventricular response rate to the a-fib is so fast that the chambers can’t fill with blood between the beats. No filling, no blood pressure. How did they end up terminating this? When this happend to me, the ER Dr's tried IV Cardizem, Lopressor and Digoxin. All did nothing but drop my bp to 60 palp. Ultimately had to be cardioverted.
Avatar n tn However, in young patients with ventricular tachycardia it is common no structural heart disease may be found. Two forms of ventricular tachycardia are commonly found and they are right ventricular outflow tract and left posterior septal fascicular ventricular tachycardia. Both of these tachycardia are repetitive monomorphic ventricular tachycardias likely due to an abnormal automatic focus amenable to rf ablation.
Avatar f tn However, it is important to understand that ventricular tachycardia (or ventricular tachyarrhythmias, that is a joint term for ventricular tachycardia, ventricular flutter and to some degree ventricular fibrillation, though almost all the time used for ventricular tachycardia) can manifest in different ways and be caused by different mechanisms, some of them almost completely benign, some of them life threatening.
Avatar f tn Supraventricular which is a tachycardia arising in the top two chambers of the heart, Ventricular Tach which is a tachycardia originating from the bottom two chambers in the heart. Hope this helps to shed some light on your question.
Avatar m tn I finally got into the appt to see the Cardiologist, he informed me that even when I was not having the tachycardia, I was having an irregular heart beat. (Before except when I was experiencing the tachycardia, they saw NOTHING wrong). I finally persuaded him not to give me more sotalol, instead he moved me back to Metopol (sp?) at a higher dosage and Digoxin. Today, the first day on the metopol, I feel SO MUCH better.
Avatar n tn I am a 37 yr old female diagnosed about four years ago with Atrial Fibrillation, Sub Ventricular Tachycardia and Mitral Valve Prolapse. I get intermittent runs of Afib or SVT lasting anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Digoxin treatment greatly reduced the number of episodes I have, but haven't eliminated them entirely. Being recently married, I wanted to start a family.
Avatar m tn Ventricular tachycardia also turns on and off like a switch. Sustained (>30 seconds) ventricular tachycardia is rare without heart disease. If the heart rate gradually increases and decreases and also varies some during the event, you can be very sure that it's sinus tachycardia. I've experienced exactly the same as you.
Avatar n tn That's exactly how premature beats works. We all have them, and they will get worse if you keep checking the pulse. With a blood pressure of 135/80 your dizziness is not related to a loss of blood pressure, if you got dizzy at all. Stop reading about ventricular tachycardia. It's an extremely rare condition.
Avatar f tn Ventricular tachycardia is an ominous sign in patients with decreased ventricular function and others with arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD). If you have had an echocardiogram showing normal LV and RV function, most likely this is not a life threatening concern and you may only need a beta blocker ( which may be causing all of your symptoms). If not then you may need an echocardiogram and a fat suppresion MRI to assess for the presence of ARVD.
Avatar f tn Another doctor at the practice called (my dr. was on vacation) and said I had a ventricular tachycardia showing 6 beats and prescribed me 25 mg of Metroprolol to start immediately. I asked this week for a referral to an EP doctor and I have an appointment next week with her. The Metoprolol slows my hear to the 60s when I take it at night, but my heart rate is back in the 90s-100 and 80s in the morning and all day. Is that normal?
Avatar m tn There are a group of arrhythmic conditions which give rise to sustained ventricular tachycardia but, in the absence of any structural heart disease or defect, are not life threatening and termed "benign". Many choose to go through an ablation procedre, while some may choose antiarrhythmic medications. Many have RVOT-VT(Right ventricular outflow tract tachycardia) which is usaully a benign VT. I had this form of VT and was fortunate to have had an ablation procedure for it last Aug.
Avatar f tn In one week I had an echocardiogram, MRI, stress test and many EKGs. My echo came back good but my stress test came back with ventricular tachycardia and my last EKG came back bad too. But I don't have my MRI results yet. I don't meet with him till march 20th. My question is how do I help calm the chest pain? It's always different like sometimes it will be stabbing or tightness or pressure but most of the time it's the stabbing one. How can I mange the pain till my appointment?
Avatar m tn Dear Doctor; iam 34 yrs old and before two weeks ago i got irregular heart palpation reach 234 rate per minute; this is the first time but iam type of drinking coffee and smoking hubbly bubbly.
Avatar m tn A woman in her 80s, hx hypertension but mostly in good health. She was walking for around 40 minutes. She was feeling weak and had to take breaks on her way home. When she arrived home she had an episode of tachycardia (158) (stated pulse felt "irregular, but not very irregular") with BP (144/71) (not sure if it started while walking). She had no chest pain, only palpitations and general weakness. She took 1 mg digoxin PO and eventually the episode resolved.
