Avatar m tn 8 years later I had to have triple bipass surgery diagnosed by the same heart doctor. Just after the surgery, in the hospital, they said it looked like I had diabetes and my heart had a little bit of funny beating rythm. They put me on coumadin, digoxin, actos, amiodorone, and lipitor. They stopped Actos because my family doctor said I did not have sugar. 4 months later I started noticing affects like falling asleep at work or at the wheel of the car and began taking caffiene pills.
Avatar f tn My husband went into a fib on Friday and they put him on it. He converted while in the ER and was told to take it in addition to his beta blocker. They had given him a pretty large dose of it while in the ER and he took 3 doses of the pill...he started feeling pretty bad. He went to his regular cardiologist today and he ran a blood test to check for toxicity and took him off of it. It sounds like a very nasty drug...thanks for the info. I can't understand why he was put on it.
Avatar m tn The only thing I can figure out, there might have have been some minor damage to my voice box during surgery, but I talk fine. If it is my medications. I am going to have to make a decision whether to increase my stoke risk or keep coughing and hacking. I don't really know how much Pradaxa reduces the stroke risk. I read 20% on the web but that seems very low but the article didn't go into any details it was just an abstract.
Avatar n tn My dad has been detected with low Ejection Fraction of 25% through an echo test, also doctors say theres a leakage in his left valve, though the doctor also mentioned that the leakage is not that much that he should go in for surgery immediately. Now, he is kept on beta blockers and diagoxin. I would like to understand the follwoing: - How sever is the problem, can it lead to sudden cardiac arrest? - Can his EF be improved through medicines or he needs a surgery?
4356842 tn?1353312209 Been taking digoxin since being diagnosed. I am pretty sure I have had svt all my life, I do recall having attacks when I was younger, but three years ago is when it go bad and more frequent. My cardio told me at first that he things surgery is a last resort for me. I am tired of dealing with the episodes. I feel lucky that their not that bad and that they are tolerable. I am just worried about having the ablation and coming out worse than what I am now.
Avatar n tn I took Digoxin for a number of years in reponse to an atrial fibrillation event. My new physician did not feel I needed to be on it any longer. What are the side effects of discontinuing this medication? I have been off it for several months and some odd changes in my body.
Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar f tn I'm worried. My baby is 9 mo old and was born with a moderate vsd and asd/pfo. My baby has been seeing cardiologist since 2 weeks old and was found in chf at 3 mo old and ftt admitted for ngt started on Lasix had already been on dig. My baby is SLOWLY gaining weight and the vsd did get a little bit smaller at 6 mo appt but continues to cause difficulty gaining weight. Was taken off dig and Lasix and has been tolerating- no more sweating or tachypnea.
Avatar f tn However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
Avatar f tn digoxin, and toprolol. niether of them worked. My dr. now wants to put me on flecanide next. Which with that i will have to be put in the hospital. I had really bad side effects with the toprolol and am ver scared to start this new drug. i don't have high blood pressure so the beta blockers were just making me more tired. i have very bad palpatations and irregular heartbeats. we also talked about a surgery, called the "mini maze' which is performed by a dr.
Avatar f tn Scheduled another cardio-vert for this Wed Mar 4, and will start on Tikosyn and be monitored in hospital for 2-3 days. Also said I would need to be on Digoxin and would fax that Rx in.... he "forgot".....I called the service Sat.& Dr. in surgery his PA said he would call back in 2 hours.... but I didn't hear from him. Today I learned he called it in, but didn't notify me, the pharmacy did. The P.A. said A-Fib was a "nuisance" not dangerous.....
Avatar f tn i hev a question concerning digoxin....wat is its effect in the body. I mean its pharmacokinetic effects. i am having a hard time searching the net for it...
Avatar n tn Sorry to hear about your uncle. The same thing happened to my mom after heart valve surgery. Left side congestive heart failure can lead to water in the lungs because the heart is not pumping as it should. When the organs do not get enough blood, they start shutting down. The acid levels rise. The body will go into cardiac shock. The lungs, kidneys, liver shut down. His heart was too weak to support his organs. Left side heart failure happens suddenly.
Avatar n tn ) the pediatric cardiologist said that he does not need a surgery but the surgent said 80% of chances he will be schedule for surgery when he gain more weight (16 pounds at least) what do think doctor , this contradiction is bothering me and his parents , thank you.
Avatar n tn I get intermittent runs of Afib or SVT lasting anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Digoxin treatment greatly reduced the number of episodes I have, but haven't eliminated them entirely. Being recently married, I wanted to start a family. After talking to my cardiologist and my husband, we decided while trying to get pregnant that I should get off of my medication, Digoxin, and aspirin therapy because it isn't safe for the fetus/baby.
4356842 tn?1353312209 My Dr took me off the digoxin, last time I took it was the day before my surgery. That has had a HUGE impact on my life. No more heat intolerance, I no longer feel like crap for no reason either. My anxiety has gone down drastically, almost non existent. I've got my self a job working at a teen night club Lol. My life has gone from 0-60 in 2 months and its absolutely crazy! And I could not be happier. To anyone thinking about having an ablation, trust your Dr.
162069 tn?1224677411 It seems that the addition of digoxin to her regimen is what has done the trick, as it has significantly lowered her amount of SVT pac's are still very frequent, but as long as her ef is improved I am a very happy camper....
Avatar n tn I am wondering if you are uneasy about taking digoxin. If so, I would ask you cardio if you can get by with just the TOPROL XL. Digoxin, xanax, toprol xl, and lisinoprol seems like a lot of stuff to be taking. I am a runner and only take TOPROL XL 12.5mg. This knocks out my extra beats and really slows my heart down. A little seems to go a long way for me.
471161 tn?1317190950 Last year cardiologist specialists advised her to have open heart valve replacement surgery and that they would stop Digoxin and the swelling would also go away, but it hasn’t. It’s still there and she is still taking Digoxin. Did you find a doctor who helped you in the end?
Avatar f tn I am taking Digoxin for tachycardia--my cardiologist says that while there aren't good studies available for cardiac meds while pregnant Digoxin is believed to be safe. It is not a betablocker, however the dr felt the digoxin would be safer than a betablocker while preggo. Also the changes in your blood volume while pregnant may correct the tachycardia.
