Digoxin on ekg

Common Questions and Answers about Digoxin on ekg

digitek

Avatar m tn tachy with normal BP brought on by exertion. EKG was normal the next day. She's a dear family member who doesn't live in the states and her doctor didn't believe her when she described the episode. Luckily digoxin is OTC in her country, but she would not want to take it prophylactically due to potential side effects. Any ideas what this could be??? Thank you in advance!!!!
Avatar m tn She was walking for around 40 minutes. She was feeling weak and had to take breaks on her way home. When she arrived home she had an episode of tachycardia (158) with BP (144/71) (not sure if it started while walking). She had no chest pain, only palpitations and general weakness. She took 1 mg digoxin PO and eventually the episode resolved. Had two more similar episodes in the past year: tachy with normal BP brought on by exertion. EKG was normal the next day.
Avatar n tn You probably already covered this with your doc, but are you on any medications? When I was on digoxin and disopyramide, my ekg's always showed funny things like possible ischemia. I had all the tests done (echo, nuclear stress test) and nothing was wrong. Now that I'm not on them anymore, my ekg's are back to normal. I think you might be able to google a list of meds that can cause ekg changes...
Avatar f tn My daughter-in-law who is 23 weeks pregnant was told that the baby's heartbeat is 220. They are monitoring her with a high-risk specialist and a pediatric cardiologist. Over the last 3 weeks, the heartbeat has remained high, but stable. How dangerous is this? What are the odds of it damaging the baby's heart and/or the baby not making it? They have talked about Digoxin if the heartbeat goes up to 260. What would that mean for the mother's health?
Avatar n tn Bradycarda is a heart rate less than 60 bpm at rest. That would be designated by the per minute count of the "P" wave on the EKG. May or may not be significant. The danger is a very slow heart rate and that can cause blood clots, 50-60 isn't a problem. It hasn't been stated the configuration of the T wave abnormality. It can be a tall T wave and the cause includes hyperkalaemia (too much potassium in the blood), hyperacute myocardial infarction (heart attack...
471161 tn?1317190950 So the cardio didn't even bother to put a name to the "dip?" I think there's more than one dip in that room LOL. A single blip here and there on the EKG could be a simple ectopic, likely a PVC. The thing with EKG's the tracing will look different depending on which lead is taking the tracing. So a blip could go way up on one lead and way down on another lead. Did you have the 12 lead EKG in the office?
Avatar n tn tracing on graph) and delayed atrioventricular (AV) conduction (PR interval on an EKG graph). Common skipped heartbeats are a result.
378273 tn?1262097621 Atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response (is "rapid" a good or bad sign?) Left bundle branch block (I already knew I had this; doctor not concerned) Thanks for any help with this!
Avatar n tn s explanation where he states digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats. I was on digoxin for a few months following my congested heart failue event. It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation.
Avatar f tn Scheduled another cardio-vert for this Wed Mar 4, and will start on Tikosyn and be monitored in hospital for 2-3 days. Also said I would need to be on Digoxin and would fax that Rx in.... he "forgot".....I called the service Sat.& Dr. in surgery his PA said he would call back in 2 hours.... but I didn't hear from him. Today I learned he called it in, but didn't notify me, the pharmacy did. The P.A. said A-Fib was a "nuisance" not dangerous.....
Avatar m tn My doctor was very surprised because he had never seen atrial fibrillation in a young adult. My doctor prescribed digoxin and my heart rhythm returned to normal. About six months ago I moved to a different state. I recently went to a new doctor to have my digoxin levels checked and he noticed that my afib had returned. He was concerned because digoxin would not have been his choice of treatment and he said I should have also been taking aspirin or a blood thinner.
Avatar f tn However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective. My basic understanding of Digoxin is that it works on the heart's electrical system and decreases the heart rate, but increases each stroke volume.
Avatar f tn s my completely unprofessional opinion on what I know about digoxin, and I took it for a number of years as a kid for SVT. It's an old drug that's been used literally for centuries. I took it back in 1957. It's inherently toxic and if that fact was not enough to curtail its use, there's evidence that suggests the drug, even at dosages normally considered safe, can cause visual problems, serious skin rashes, and may significantly aggravate asthma.
Avatar f tn Every now and then I feel like something is crawling on me when it's really now. Is this a side effect of digoxin? Also my hands, arms and legs are constantly falling asleep..
Avatar f tn I am curious as to why your cardiologist would have you on digoxin. It is used today mostly for atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. It has been surpassed by beta blockers and/or calcium channel blockers as a first line choice. Did you perhaps experience syncope before your ablation? High ventricular rate leads to insufficient diastolic filling time. Digoxin slows down the conduction in the AV node and increases its refractory period, and it can reduce the ventricular rate.
Avatar f tn I have atrial fibrillation and possibly freguent ventricular extrasystoles in evenings and mornigs. I have hyperpareathyroidism, muscle dystonia, hypothyroidism etc. The extrasystoles are as if a calf is jerking in my chest. I had an EKG today. It was very abnormal, but I don't know how, at least AF. The nurse did not first allow me to leave the room, but an older nurse then allowed me go. What are these calf jerkings in my chest occurring when I lie in bed?
Avatar m tn How do you tell if Afib converted on its own or if the medication did the conversion or if the medication was causing the Afib? I have been to the Primary doctor and Emergency room both said I was not in afib currently. Another words, when do you know when to stop taking the medications? In Nov 2013, I have Aortic heart valve replacement and a maze procedure. My old cardiologist wanted to do a cardioversion but I didn't want it, so I had to change Cardiologist.
Avatar f tn My husband and I would like to start trying for a baby but i'm on Betablockers for a tachycardia that no-one can find a reason for! i'm only on 1.25mg of bisoprolol, and would like to know what risks there are. I'm currently on a waiting list to see cardiology and find out what their opinion is but would like a bit of advice.
Avatar n tn Okay, I knew I probably should not have read about it but in reading about the new drug my doctor put me on digoxin I see where it interacts negatively with xanax. I am not a regular user of xanax but have some in case I can't sleep or am nervous flying, etc... Does anyone know if this will be a problem if I take small dosages of xanax say once or twice a week? Any help would be appreciated.
