Digoxin in heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias

Common Questions and Answers about Digoxin in heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias

digitek

Avatar n tn Digitek is a registered trademark of Actavis Totowa (formerly Amide Pharmaceutical, Inc.) for their digoxin tablets, which are prescribed to treat heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms. The drug is distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc., under a “Bertek” label and by UDL Laboratories, Inc. under a “UDL” label. Patients taking Digitek should contact their physician immediately for medical advice. Retailers who carry Digitek should return the product to the place of purchase.
Avatar n tn The leaking tricuspid valve contributes to the enlargement of the left atrium and that can result in cardiac arrhythmias. Unfortunately, doing a double switch operation is a complicated, staged surgical process, and can take a long time to accomplish the goal of strengthening the right sided left ventricle to try to take on the workload of the systemic circulation.
Avatar f tn There are so many medications that mention "tachy" as a possible side effect. I'm not sure if the arrhythmia becomes permanent however. Often it clears up once the medication is discontinued/ended. I've taken Cipro a couple of times now and I'm prone to arrhythmias LOL and never noticed any difference while on the med. My albuterol for asthma cranks up my heart rate but only for 10 minutes or so.
Avatar f tn Chances are that your father suffered a cardiac arrest due to some type of arrhythmia or irregular heart beat. This is NOT heart failure which is a chronic form of heart disease where the muscles of the heart are diseased. Arrhythmias can cause a sudden death event and many young athelets have died on the basketballcourts or on the football field due to arrhythmias. your father needs to be evaluated by an EP Specialist who deals with the electrical issues with the heart.
Avatar f tn hi I ha been diognosed with heart failure in the severe stages what ever that means and want try me on different meds and devices I have refused and researched my self and have realised my heart has been puny at 25% since I was born premature and I have lived 40 years with pupping issue and will live another 40 health living no meds will help
Avatar m tn The heart will ultimately give-in, resulting usually in cardiac failure (heart attack). But with good management, proper treatment, careful monitoring by the vet (involving regular check-ups), low-salt diet, moderate exercise but no excitement or over-exertion, and lots of TLC, many dogs live a fairly full and contented life.
Avatar n tn A person in heart failure should be on a cocktail of drugs and usually a pacemaker or ICD is implanted, but even then it won't stop the heart from failing completly. Currently to my knowledge stem cell research is only in the animal testing stages but looks encouraging. As to why her doctor did not order a pacemaker I can only guess he assumed her case was too far gone and the risk of the procedure did not outweigh the benefits.
Avatar m tn Also, when an athele discontinues rigorous atctivites the heart well return to normal size The morphology of heart cells in a pathologically enlarged heart is different, and if left untreated will cause a decrease in contractility and heart failure. That happened to me, and my first symptom was congested heart failure and I was several days in ICU to stabilize the blood/oxygen ratio. There has never been any restrictions for physical activity for me. Rather physical activity is advised.
Avatar n tn Rythmonorm is used to treat arrhythmias and to maintain a normal heart rate. It acts on the heart MUSCLE to improve the heart's rhythm not the electrophysiological system. It is contra-indicated for individuals with a low EF (amt. of blood pumped with each heartbeat). It can harm heart muscle and for some insight: "Of the patients with congestive heart failure probably related to RYTMONORM, 80% had preexisting heart failure and 85% had coronary artery disease.
Avatar f tn Hi, Digoxin is administered in the treatment of Congestive heart failure . Diastolic blood pressure significantly decreased and systolic blood pressure significantly increased during overnight sleep in the digoxin phase .Heart rate decreased in the overnight sleeping phase . Digoxin significantly decreases diastolic blood pressure during overnight sleep in patients with congestive heart failure.
Avatar f tn s operative candidacy, there are several cardiac features that are important -- coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and valve disease. Usually, we are looking to see if any of them are unstable or not optimally managed. Recent heart attack or chest pain that hasn't been assessed/managed would be a reason to postpone surgery. Decompensated heart failure, meaning severe or worsening symptoms, volume overload, or even a new diagnosis would be a reason to postpone surgery.
Avatar f tn my grandmother,my father, all of his brothers died of heart attack or heart failure...there is also diabeties in my family history...not going to worry about that now but i do have low blood pressure it went down to 105/58..had it took today 100/60 i am on depression medicine that might be why....
Avatar f tn I had a routine visit with Heart failure specialist on Feb.3, EKG showed I was in A-Fib. they said I was fine and to go ahead with trip to Mexico for a week's vacation. We returned Wed., the 25th; did well on trip and walking through airports. Thurs. i was out of breath walking 200 feet. Thurs. night had severe "cllunking" for well over an hour. Fri. saw the E.P.
Avatar m tn The chemical can be used to treat cardiac disorders, including heart failure and fibrillation, or flutter, of the atrium.
Avatar n tn A 7 mm defect would be considered a large ventricular septal defect. I am sure this is why the child was placed on cardiac medications. A Qp:Qs ratio of 2.3 indicates a large shunt. I do not understand the rest of the numbers you report. The indications for surgery are elevated pressures in the lungs and/or failing to thrive. Since the child appears to be growing the cardiologist is giving him time to prove whether or not the hole can get smaller in the next couple of months.
Avatar f tn However, if your cardiologist is saying that her congestive heart failure is controlled, and she is eating well without getting out of breath or getting sweaty, the peripheral cyanosis is most likely due to immature control of the circulatory system by the autonomic nervous system. We frequently see peripheral cyanosis occurring into toddlerhood. Of course, with a history of a congenital heart defect, there is the chance that she has some other defect that was not recognized.
Avatar m tn It is able to detect these arrhythmias and, if they are persistent, deliver a shock to the heart to electrically reset the heart and stop the arrhythmia. This can help in the short term, but if the function of the heart continues to decrease, he may require a heart transplant. As you suggested, this can progress during puberty, where this is rapid growth and hormonal changes that can affect the body and the heart’s need to keep up.
Avatar m tn the age of the patient, the extent of damage to the heart muscle at the time of heart attack, the area of the heart muscle which is damaged and so on. In some patients, the LVEF doesn’t increase much but symptomatically they feel much better. 2. Basically, the job of the drugs is to ensure that load on the heart is reduced and thus the heart is able to perform better. If the load is reduced, the chances of the development of arrhythmias (disturbed rhythm) are also less.
Avatar f tn scarred tissue does not permit electrical conduction), congested heart failure or recent angina (chest pain from lack of oxygen to heart cells). In cardiac ablation, a form of energy renders a small section of damaged tissue inactive. This puts an end to arrhythmias that originated at the problematic site. Tests should show electrical flow that gets blocked or travels the same pathways repeatedly creating something of a “short circuit” that disturbs normal heart rhythms. Medicine often helps.
Avatar m tn s can also can be programmed to perform biventricular pacing in patients with congestive heart failure or a slow heart rate.
Avatar n tn My dad has been detected with low Ejection Fraction of 25% through an echo test, also doctors say theres a leakage in his left valve, though the doctor also mentioned that the leakage is not that much that he should go in for surgery immediately. Now, he is kept on beta blockers and diagoxin. I would like to understand the follwoing: - How sever is the problem, can it lead to sudden cardiac arrest? - Can his EF be improved through medicines or he needs a surgery?
Avatar m tn Hello, Human life can be very tenacious! You have to come to an understanding of your condition and learn to live with it. Heart Disease is survivable! I had a CRT_D fitted in 2010 as a result of surviving a "Sudden Death" episode a day earlier thanks to CPR, Cardioversion and a dollop of good luck. These devices are fitted, usually when the Ejection fraction is sub 30% when risks of Arrhythmias arise and the term 'Heart Failure' comes into use.
Avatar n tn To answer your first question, I had a friend, who was paranoid about health for all his life, spend 2 hours in gym every single day, never smoked, and did cardiac checkups for 15 years in a row. Had no family history. He was 44, and died with severe cardiac failure before the ambulance could reach him (it reached spot in 8 minutes) SO just enjoy that burger, just dont overdo it.
Avatar f tn The dr told us that my Dad doesnt have heart failure and is stronger than most his age... but after my family have investigated they are sure it is heart failure. My Dad also sounds a little chesty. I am beside myself as my parents live with me. What should I do ??? Please rep;y as soon as possible.
1702104 tn?1307226854 i had a heart attack in 2008 and in december 2010 i had an unstable angina attack after which my consultant sent me for an angiogram during the angiogram i was the 1 in 500 to suffer a cardiac arrest since then everytime i lie down to sleep my heart starts racing this last until i have been up and moving for 15 mins i then get a tightness in my chest its not painful just uncomfortable
Avatar m tn Usually catheter ablation is not a treatment for heart failure. It is a type of treatment for cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), but that is not to say there is no correlation. During ablation, a doctor inserts a catheter (thin, flexible tube) into the heart. A special machine delivers energy through the catheter to tiny areas of the heart muscle that cause the abnormal heart rhythm. This energy “disconnects” the pathway of the abnormal rhythm.
