Avatar f tn Hi, Digoxin is administered in the treatment of Congestive heart failure . Diastolic blood pressure significantly decreased and systolic blood pressure significantly increased during overnight sleep in the digoxin phase .Heart rate decreased in the overnight sleeping phase . Digoxin significantly decreases diastolic blood pressure during overnight sleep in patients with congestive heart failure.
Avatar f tn Digoxin and Toprol act in different ways and do not induce the same effects. I have atrial fib and was prescribed amioderone.
Avatar m tn my husband has been diagnosed with A-Fib and heart failure, today he has not been feeling well is heart rate is goining up and down from 45 to 118 he is feeling weak and fatigued. His ejection faction is 30 he is also a diabetic and is overweght. I don't know when I should make him go to the doctor or the hospital.
Avatar f tn There are certain instances where digoxin might be indicated. I believe it makes the heart pump more forcefully, so it might be used if heart failure was suspected. I hope all goes well for him.
Avatar n tn my dad was taken off of it because his rate dropped below 60 beats and was causing him to be knocked out for most of the day when he went off of it his symptoms improved now its been 2 weeks and he is showing signs of loss of appitite, sleepiness, slow in speech, stomach acid, nasea Can the digoxin be retintroduced without any big adjustment to his chemistry?
Avatar n tn Hi, The doctor has rightly prescribed you lisinopril which plays an important role in cardiomyopathy in improving the functioning of the heart. I’ll also suggest the use digoxin for you which tend to improve the ejection fraction of heart and also improve the symptoms of congestive heart failure and it’s especially used for patients who have low blood pressure. Apart from that, I’ll suggest a low intake of salt and water. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind Regards.
Avatar f tn I had a routine visit with Heart failure specialist on Feb.3, EKG showed I was in A-Fib. they said I was fine and to go ahead with trip to Mexico for a week's vacation. We returned Wed., the 25th; did well on trip and walking through airports. Thurs. i was out of breath walking 200 feet. Thurs. night had severe "cllunking" for well over an hour. Fri. saw the E.P.
2021358 tn?1328748117 It is an old drug which was used for heart failure years ago. Unfortunately, I had bad side effects and had to cut my dose in half. Even if the MD does't go along with the digoxin, they are the specialists to see for the vagal nerve.
Avatar f tn Several years ago a pychiatrist put me on 40 mgs of Adderil. I started having arrythimias according to a pacemaker check. Could this medication cause all of this to happen. Plus a paid mgmt dr put me on a strong muscle relaxer years before this and my heart beat dropped to 40 beats and this caused me to have the pacemaker. I sleep walk a lot and sometimes find some of my meds are gone and this occasion sev muscle relaxers weren't in the bottle.
Avatar f tn it has been recalled!. There may be other applications, but it is usually prescribed for heart failure patients...strengthens heart contractions. Your son should have an electrocardiogram. That will estimate all heart wall dimensions, it provides the amount of blood pumped out with each stroke (medically termed ejection fraction), Also, heart valves are evaluated both structually and functionally, heart structure integrity, etc.
Avatar f tn However, if your cardiologist is saying that her congestive heart failure is controlled, and she is eating well without getting out of breath or getting sweaty, the peripheral cyanosis is most likely due to immature control of the circulatory system by the autonomic nervous system. We frequently see peripheral cyanosis occurring into toddlerhood. Of course, with a history of a congenital heart defect, there is the chance that she has some other defect that was not recognized.
Avatar n tn I am trying to get some answers regarding the treatment of an elderly male in the UK. He has been diagnosed with heart failure and has a leaky valve and some irregular heart rythums. At the moment he still gets breathless after walking up a few stairs and I'm not happy with this situation. He also has a persistent cough which may be linked to his medication. He does have some water retention in lower legs.
Avatar m tn t have heart failure secondary to ischemic heart disease (ie blockages in the heart -- the normal stress test argues against this). The same is true for statins -- if your cholesterol is okay and you don't have evidence of coronary disease or other risk factors (diabetes, stroke, etc) then you don't need a statin. Vasodilators are sometimes used on top of ACEI/ARB and beta blocker but aren't always indicated.
Avatar f tn hi I ha been diognosed with heart failure in the severe stages what ever that means and want try me on different meds and devices I have refused and researched my self and have realised my heart has been puny at 25% since I was born premature and I have lived 40 years with pupping issue and will live another 40 health living no meds will help

Avatar n tn m not a surgeon, but a 7mm VSD in a baby that small is definitely a moderate size. How big was he when he was born? Has he been having any signs of heart failure? My daughter was born with a large VSD and a small ASD. She is having open heart surgery next week to repair both defects. She will be 4 months old, and 11 lbs.
Avatar n tn Digoxin is a medication which is used for heart rate control in atrial fibrillation, It has been shown to keep people out of the hospital successfully, but has never been shown to decrease mortality. So if yous top taking it you may have worsening heart rate control, palpitations, possibly pass out (syncope), and could develop a breathlessness or even a cardiomyopathy. Speak to your cardiologist about the reasons why you want to spot this medication.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with sarcoidosis on 2008 which affected my lungs, so Iwas on Prednison ever since. My heart then was in good condition, and I was responding to the treatment, but 2 years after it affected the heart , M y latest ECHO showed the following results: LVEDD : 6.8 LVESD : 6.0 RV : 2.3 LA : 4.0 AR : 2.0 IVS : 0.8 POST WALL THICKNESS OF LV : 0.8 FS% : 11 % EF% : 25% Am I having a heart frailer...How long have I to live approximately?
Avatar f tn After spending 8 days in the hospital getting my heart back into sinus rhythm (3 cardioversions + Tikosyn) I am back to Afib (off the Tikosyn) and have a 'normal' heart rate of 100 now. I presently take Lisinopril, Digoxin, Warfarin, and Carvedilol. Is 'my present condition' truly something that should not cause concern to me. Isn't being in constant AFib causing my chances of a stroke to rise considerably???
Avatar n tn However, you need to be careful with the dose of the tablets as you need to start at a lower dose and escalate the dose gradually or otherwise it may worsen your congestive heart failure you are suffering from. Secondly, the EF of 25% is definitely low and should consult your cardiologist for the same. I hope you are taking digitalis glycosides (digoxin) as they play an important role apart from the other therapies in improving the EF. I sincerely hope that helps. Please do keep me posted.
Avatar f tn A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes. There are so many newer drugs now that are far more effective.
