Avatar n tn It is my understanding the medication is used to increase contractility of the pumping chambers. My medication for stablizing heart rate is a beta blocker (coreg) and an ACE inhibitor. My research: "Digoxin is contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation. Digoxin should generally be avoided in patients with preserved left ventricular systolic function, although it has been used for ventricular rate control in the subgroup of patients with chronic atrial fibrillation.
Avatar n tn Digoxin is a medication which is used for heart rate control in atrial fibrillation, It has been shown to keep people out of the hospital successfully, but has never been shown to decrease mortality. So if yous top taking it you may have worsening heart rate control, palpitations, possibly pass out (syncope), and could develop a breathlessness or even a cardiomyopathy. Speak to your cardiologist about the reasons why you want to spot this medication.
4703993 tn?1379768388 We then tried Verapamil 20mg (once again very small dose but it did not work, it lowered my resting heart rate to 38, which made me feel like I was going to faint all of the time, and when I was standing or walking around I was very tachycardic) so needless to say my body does not respond correctly to calcium channel blockers..
Avatar m tn my husband has been diagnosed with A-Fib and heart failure, today he has not been feeling well is heart rate is goining up and down from 45 to 118 he is feeling weak and fatigued. His ejection faction is 30 he is also a diabetic and is overweght. I don't know when I should make him go to the doctor or the hospital.
Avatar f tn Diastolic blood pressure significantly decreased and systolic blood pressure significantly increased during overnight sleep in the digoxin phase .Heart rate decreased in the overnight sleeping phase . Digoxin significantly decreases diastolic blood pressure during overnight sleep in patients with congestive heart failure. This effect is likely to be caused by reduction of sympathetic activity or increase of parasympathetic activity.
Avatar f tn m taking it for baby lol it seems to be working for him so far! They did an echo today.
Avatar n tn When I got to the hospital they ran tests and noted that I had no level of digoxin in my blood. While in the ER I fell asleep and my heart rate went up to 160bpm. They gave me a beta blocker and a shot of digoxin and told me I had tachycardia. I went to my cardiologist, she increased my digoxin from .25 to .375 and told me that my potassium level was on the lower end of normal to eat a banana or drink a glass of OJ daily.
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
Avatar m tn fluid consumption is within limits as that also tend to aggravate the CHF. One has to ensure that the blood pressure, heart rate & lipids are kept under control. Please do consult your cardiologist also.I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn s assessment on this but I have nowhere else to turn to. I thought as time went by heart rate was supposed to get better, not worse. Help anyone?
Avatar n tn I am taking meds to control PACS but they slow my heart rate down to a crawl. I am a runner so already have a heart rate in the 50's- 60's. With meds it is in the 40's sometimes low 40's. I don't feel bad just tired and fatigued but was wondering if there is a limit for how low heart rates should go before it is dangerous. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn A fast heart beat (tachycardia) can be harmful if the sustained heart rate eventually results in the heart "tiring out", or if the heart rate becomes so rapid that the heart cannot "fill" effectively and therefore blood does not circulate the way it should. The perinatologist and pediatric cardiologist will monitor the baby carefully for signs of these effects, and may give your daughter-in-law medications that will cross the placenta to treat the baby.
Avatar n tn s contractions are weaker than normal, and digoxin helps provide a stronger beating heart. If one has increased functionality of the heart, the drug may be dropped, also, there can be a tolerance that develops with digoxin that may require discontinuation for a period of time.
Avatar n tn The medication that may be causing you the low heart rate can be the beta blocker and/or digoxin. Did you stop taking digoxin?
Avatar f tn I got a portable pulse ox to monitor my heart rate. Tonight it went from 53 to 92 to 106 all at rest, within a 5 min time frame. Why? The dr explained what SVT is but I'm worried. He prescribed me Digoxin and Lopressor. But my heart is still being crazy. Wondering if I need an ablation. Hmm.
Avatar n tn What are you trying to accomplish, heart rate control ( slow a too high HR down) or are you able to obtain a normal sinus rhythm?
1048253 tn?1253686663 my cardiologist has put me on digoxin and ivabradine to slow my heart which has worked now my heart rate is 60 to 70 bpm sometimes it drops to 40 to 50 bpm but he assured me that its just the meds im on doing that my only problem is my heart still races sometimes at night i wake up drenched in sweat and i get papatations my blood pressure also goes too high when this happens i have measured it on a blood pressure mechine its 176/100 its takes about 40 mins for my heart and blood pressure to
Avatar n tn I am interested in others experience of their heart rate. Mine starts with flutter, like a thousand butterflies in my chest, then to very fast and irregular beats, and then very slow and soft, in fact so soft I can hardly feel it. Anyone have the same? I try to avoid all triggers that I know of, such as laying on left side, coffee, over eating or eating to fast. I take CO Q10, magnesium, aspirin and my Flecinaide. Any one have good experience Flecinaide?
Avatar f tn Is he an athlete? Athletes have a larger left ventricle that is very efficient with a reduced heart rate at rest below 60 bpm. The symptoms for an enlarged LV can be shortness of breath, weakness, possibly chest pain, etc., nosebleeds, dizziness and headaches don't usually represent symptoms for DLV. Medication is for high blood pressure (enalapril). I'm not sure why lanoxin (digoxin) is prescribed; it has been recalled!.
Avatar m tn My doctor was very surprised because he had never seen atrial fibrillation in a young adult. My doctor prescribed digoxin and my heart rhythm returned to normal. About six months ago I moved to a different state. I recently went to a new doctor to have my digoxin levels checked and he noticed that my afib had returned. He was concerned because digoxin would not have been his choice of treatment and he said I should have also been taking aspirin or a blood thinner.
Avatar f tn I am being treated by a good cardiologist. My ejection rate is 34% and I hope increasing all the time. It was 20% in February at my initial diagnosis. I'm taking carvedilol, lisinopril, digoxin, medication for my cholesterol and diabetes 2 and also aspirin and cod liver oil . I would like to continue with my exercise program and don't know if it's allowed. It's not hard, just walking.
Avatar n tn I recently had a 2 d echo and I would greatly appreciate some explanation of the results. The abnormals are mitral valve leaflets thickened, aortic vavlular sclerosis, diastolic transmitral e/a ratio decreased suggesting diastolic relaxation impairment, mild mr and mild tr present I am 39 with a history of tachycardia. I am currently taking digoxin 250mcg twice a day. Even with that my heart rate is still in the high 90's resting.
Avatar n tn The degree to which your heart rhythm will improve with medications depends on what the heart rhythm is. Some extra beats are resistant to medications whereas other decrease significantly. That is probably the best I can say without knowing what the heart rhythm abnormality is. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn the dr found several severe atrial tachycardias & my heart rate going to 270 bpm. he has put me on Digoxin so we'll c if that helps..is any1else taking Digoxin?
